ok, you might be asking "what's a football quote"? well, it can be a quote a coach has told you about the game to help you play better (for those that played) or a quote you heard from someone involved with the game that you respect. some of us (sickfinfan33) could have the former I will only have the latter since I never played. All I ask is that you keep it football related. Attribution not necessary if you can't find it. Just post it.
Some of my favorite quotes; all Vince Lombardi. I believe in that because I feel that way when I play basketball - I'm not good at football haha - and I win. Telling it like it is. This seems to apply to a former Quarterback of the Dolphins named John Beck unfortunately. Unfortunately, I think this applies to some peoples lives. Constant quitting equals lack of motivation to do more IMO. One of the biggest misconceptions is "practice makes perfect" IMO.
Per my middle school football coach I've used that my entire life. As an undersized linemen it's how I earned my starting spot. As a 25 year old it's how I'll find my way in my career. Keep the feet moving and never get bogged down. We can't all spring through life. Also per Lombardi
This isn't inspirational or instructional, just comical. One of my favs and a classic: Jack Lambert Steelers LB being interviewed after one of the first games the QB "in the grasp" ruile was introduced.
This one is a bit humorous, to me at least. Bo Jackson said the following: From Frank Giffard, former Giants tailback... Also, lmfao. The one and only Joe Theisman. ^
"We're not where we are, We're not where we're gonna be, but thank god we're not where we used to be" - Tony Sparano.
From the great Jim Mora Sr. "Playoffs? Don't talk about playoffs. Are you kidding me? Playoffs?" "We couldn’t do diddly poo offensively, we couldn’t make a first down, we couldn’t run the ball, we didn’t try to run the ball, we couldn’t complete a pass - we sucked. The second half, we sucked." Plus many more you could list but aren't family friendly. Now let me say although these quotes are classic football comedy, I posted them to make a point often not noticed by these comments. Obviously the comments are not the most well thought out quotes you'll ever hear but Mora is being painfully honest. Most coaches dance around the subject of their team playing bad but Mora will just come out and say "We sucked." That has to get him some respect from us the fans even though it surely pushed away players (although I believe it was meant to be motivation by shame it probably could have been done better). My main argument isn't that the quotes are great in what they say but rather they are great because they are honest (and in the era of Bill Belichick that is something I respect).
The game is on. Honey, go in the kitchen, make me a sandwich, get me a drink, then go in the other room, and knit something or whatever. Don't bug me unless you're on fire and if you are why would you need me, you'd run past 2 bathtubs just to get where I was. Listen up, I may call for you for another sandwich or a drink, at that time get it promptly and be quiet and topless. Now go, pregame is on. - Me to my wife
Maddenisms. "There is a lot of meat in that hole" and "Give that boy a little crack and watch him go" and "Stick in the A hole" Great quotes
I remember a Fins game we was calling in the late 90s. We had Brian Cox and Aubrey Beavers in the LB corps. He said something like: "Wow! Cox and Beavers were all over the field!" or something to that effect. Miss you JM.
when we had triples in high school in piping hot august, if it was anything below 80 degrees, my coach would always shout with a smirk "who ordered this weather???" something i'll never forget.
