Sorry but this game makes me laugh at everyone who criticizes Ireland for prioritizing the trenches. This game was controlled and won in the trenches.

    Glad you brought that up.

Not sure if you saw the Bears game but Marshall has a doughnut mainly b/c Cutler is under siege on every snap, he just got sacked for the 7th time. Last year we had an abomination at RT and a serious problem at RG. I think Ireland saw JMartin sitting there and decided to shore up the OL with a 1st round talent rather than take a WR. He took Vernon and Egnew in the 3rd and Miller in the 4th. Clearly we have a problem at WR but it's hard to argue with the picks if you're looking at it from a best player available stand point.

I'd argue he is still a #1, just not a very good one, very average overall. like you said, he's pretty useless in the redzone where you expect someone with his size and speed to excel.
an old Plaxico is twice the redzone reciever Marshall will ever be.

Td wise yeah but we have no one else to throw to so he might have hit that target this year. Although this year hes already dropped 3 td's in 2 games. Hes been at that yardage level just about every year but 2010 where he would have also achieved that yardage level had he not missed 2 games.

....... which is crazy considering he's taken the job of 1st round tackle Chris Williams. These defensive pressure guys are too numerous nowadays to not focus on building a strong Oline IMHO.

Considering like Alshon Jeffery is starting for a playoff team and Jon martin is struggling to start for us I have a hard time calling Jon Martin the best player available in round 2. Regardless there were other opportunities as I brought up. Manningham only signed a 2 year deal. Vincent Jackson. Instead we signed a bunch of poop who couldnt even make our roster or behave.

Maybe if Chicago would have drafted a tackle instead of Jeffery they wouldn't be starting a 7th rounder at tackle?

When I think of a #1 I think of somebody who is a threat to score when they are on the field. Like Megatron, or Fitzgerald, or Randy Moss in his prime. Marshall is not that fast and not that consistent.

Yeah, It's good to see you back and contributing! I've had some health issues that I'm still trying to figure out. At first I thought it was my heart but very glad that I passed every test to disprove that! So it's on the the digestive track to check that out. I was working and riding my skateboard a lot until I had the issues and now I'm cleared to go back to it. Thanks for asking!

But you know, I would have taken a half way productive Chad Johnson. Although Hartline MAY still turn out to be decent, I just don't see him and Bess turning this Wr corps into anything more than average...

Now that the oline should be solidified for a while we can hopefully focus on offensive playmakers.

I'm not sure Vincent Jackson would've been the fit Philbin is looking for, and the cost of Manningham might've prevented us from signing a top 2013 WR FA, IMO.

Your sig was the highlight of tonights game

Yeah, thats not gonna happen. Armstrong barely got to 850 as a starter now hes trying to learn an offense after camp and running 4th on our depth chart? Matthews may get some chance around midseason when the coaches realize this roster sucks and we may as well invest some time and effort in developing whatever young players we have on the roster who are worth a damn.

Manninghams contract is essentially voidable after 1 year. So no. Jackson could have handled the Jennings role or Split End/Z spot.

The point being any two or 3 receivers not Bess or Hartline getting any combo of 6tds and 1200 yrds then his production is replaced and no one got stabbed.

I know they beat the Colts last week but I wouldn't call the Bears a playoff team just yet and Jeffrey had 1 catch for 7 yds tonight. Cutler had no chance behind that garbage OL a week after Alex Smith, a lesser talent at QB, sat comfortably in the pocket carved up the same defense.

But I totally agree on the FAs. We could have taken a flier on Manningham, Stallworth, Moss etc, assuming they were willing to come here.

And ill say this: After a year and a half Ill say Marshall was overrated as hell. That dude is nothing but a fantasy football icon. But IRL he drops more balls than a gay male hooker. I felt at the time we won that deal with the Bears getting 2 years of production and then 2 3rd's from the bears, being done with his high maintenance, and after seeing Marshall not change even with his icon Jay Cutler Im even happier he's gone. I just felt they didnt replace the production he did give. They had opportunities, they did nothing and thats my problem

Good to hear you're OK man, no chance I'm touching a skateboard but I wish you all the best .

Average would be an amazing improvement over what I've seen at WR so far and Chad only has himself to blame. Mouthing off, head butting women etc. I'm already scouring college prospects for which WRs we'll go after in April. Here's a list of the pending FAs at WR for whoever is interested http://www.kffl.com/static/nfl/features/freeagents/fa.php?option=WR&y=2013.

I was under the impression Philbin liked his receivers versatile enough to play all 3 positions. ?? Personally I wouldn't have wanted to enter a bidding war with TB for Jackson considering how badly they wanted him and how much cap space they had. Besides, we couldn't have matched the initial $13 million the Bucs gave him for 2012, so I don't think he would've even considered us regardless.

The Bears are going to be a playoff team even with that crap OL. Theyre going to win 10 games. They played a good angry Packer team today. Alex Smith carved up the GB D because the GB O couldnt do jack. The SF D controlled that game. GB didnt even try and run the ball and Aaron Rodgers proved that day he wasnt no Dan Marino

Didnt want Stallworth but Moss, Edwards, Jackson, manningham....none of them but Jackson got significant money or a contract that was really demanding that the player be kept more then a year.

Right and what 2-3 wr's are doing that? And the value of 2-3 does not = the value of 1. Thats 2-3 roster spots you have to use to get the same production as you get from 1. That 1 player will see some double teams and draw attention away from other players around him so its not just the stats its the attention he draws. Your concept is nothing more then fantasy.

Fair enough on the Tampa point but there were other bandaids we could have at least patched things up with, trade options (Bowe?) etc.

    Completely agree.

.... and the way Ireland seemed to frustratingly say we have a bunch of 4's, 5's, and 6's, I'd have to believe he agrees with you, too. Probably nothing more frustrating than landing your first, high 1st round QB with franchise potential and not getting him any weapons (or at least the weapons you want and can afford). I'd like to know why it happened that way, but I'm guessing we won't find out until his and Philbin's plan become more apparent---- during next draft and FA.

I thought we had a serviceable bandaid in Chad Johnson, but that unfortunately didn't work out.

So, show me the statistically significant impact having a safety shaded to your side produces. If that is making an impact, then there should be a statistic that can measure that impact.

The Dolphins aren't any worse off without Marshall than they were with him.

All the validation you need is to see that the WR group in 2008 that was headlined by Greg Camarillo, Ted Ginn Jr, and Davone Bess outproduced the WR group that had Brandon Marshall in it. That was because of the quarterback play, but then that should tell which position truly impacts the game and which one simply goes along for the ride.

The best way to sum up Naanee is that not only has he not caught a ball yet, but both of Tannehill's attempts to him were intercepted.

    Let's recap:

Green Bay decided to gear their entire coverage schemes to stopping Brandon Marshall tonight. Apparently they think a little more of him than some in here do.

Then the reality is that Cutler can't get a pass off without getting killed.

Then this **** thread gets started to gloat, while hoping that nobody you know...ACTUALLY WATCHED THE GAME.

Of course...where was this thread last week?
