afternoon guys/gals. i just recieved a iomega 500 gb external drive and was told by the person who gave it to me that it is not formatted to work with my ps3.. now they did say that it was possible to do so but we were cut off before they could explain how so my question is what program would i need to do this that is preferably free? i assume something like partition magic would be needed but i really know nothing about programs like that.
You don't really need anything. Windows can format it to FAT32. Go to Start, then RUN and type CMD and press enter Type FORMAT followed by the drive letter, followed by the FS switch and specify FAT32 eg...to format a drive with the letter E: FORMAT E: /FS:FAT32 Of course, it gets a bit more complicated for anything more than 32GB. There's a few tricks to get it to do so but an easy way would be to download this program: fat32format.exe http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?fat32format.htm.
I don't know if gparted works for externals (I don't see why not?) but you can get it and burn an .iso of the live cd to disk and format it graphically. You just stick the disk in at boot, select the drive, and format it. http://www.gparted.org
what Regan said is right, It needs to be in fat32. I know because I switched out of that now I can use it on my 360.
thats exactly what i need as the ed is 500 gb's but that is where my confusion sets in. what to do after i download fat32format?
He gives you instructions on his website: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?fat32format.htm Just follow that and you'll be set.
