That's too bad, what I still catch is that he died while giving chase. If he had just driven to a police station he's be with us today.
According to Dan Rafael, Forrest lost sight of them and stopped chasing. He was walking back to his car at the gas station when one of the guys jumped out and shot him. Once he was on the ground, they shot him several more times. Basically premeditated murder. I don't know the other circumstances and why he would chase. Maybe he'd been targeted before. Maybe he was worried for the kid and/or they made threats during. Maybe he was just caught up and made a bad choice. Apparently these guys jumped out of a car and tried to steal his vehicle (I presume with the kid inside?). Just awful.
