And if one looks, the 2 16 gm seasons are the best Stats performance by a Dolphins Qb since Marino retired. "If" Moore had started all 16, he would have been really close to Penny's 08, and probably would have passed his TD performance.
I'm all for selling the farm for Luck, but short of that (and, realistically, it ain't happening), I'm fine w/ giving Moore a full season, but still drafting a Tannehill type. This gives Moore at least a season to show he has more upside, and if he does - fantastic for us! I like Moore, and I hope he gets better, but I'm also one for going for the big fish if we have a chance to catch it.
All I'd like is for the new HC to name his Qb asap, if it's Moore, fine, if it is the rookie or a FA, that is fine to, the "qb competition" stuff rarely works out well because there is just not enough time and coaching to prep 2 Qb's eqaully, so you diminish both of them.
only 2 seasons out of 12 since Marino to have a QB start every game speaks volumes.....and you and I know BEST since Marino is not close to what it takes from QB position. We have needed 2 AVERAGE QBs to play every single game to produce enough to make us a playoff team....but not really a threat.
I believe both were playoff yrs, but still, if you look at the "franchise' Qb's they consistently play all 16. As for making the next jump up, I'm of the view the problem has been the lack of adding more offensive talent due to poor GM work, we had Chris Chambers, who did we have across from him? ? We acquire a stud Wr, then stop upgrading, have done that for yrs.
The question is, what do we do with the 9th pick? Is there a quarterback worthy of the 9th pick or is it a reach to grab someone simply for the sake of picking a 1st round quarterback? If we don't believe there is a quarterback worthy of the 9th pick, do we trade up to get one worthy of a top ten pick or do we trade back to get a quarterback where his draft value actually warrants the pick? Its going to be an interesting quandary.
Well, is that a chicken or egg question? Meaning we need a more productive offense, wouldn't adding playmakers improve it if we cannot add a Qb?
So? And what is the point of this post. Any fan on this board is knowledgeable enough to know franchise QBs don't grow on trees. So do you think we should give up finding one because their tough to find? Great line of thought
developed..?does being bood in practices after your 2nd year quantify as part of the development process.?
No, it hasn't. I listen to the same people mouth the same words about "developing a quarterback" and talking about how there are so many first round busts. Well, how the hell would WE know? WE haven't drafted a QB in the first round since freaking MARINO!
No they dont grow on trees. But many come in the 1st round in the draft, something miami has failed to figure out since Marino left.
Big difference in failing to find a franchise QB and not trying. Ireland isn't trying. He's stuck in a Parcellian, arrogant plan of "I can build a team that will win despite the QB."
I agree with that point but it seems that some fans believe we must take a quarterback in the 1st round to have any hope. With the 9th pick is there any Qbs worth the pick? i am sure there are several offensive playmakers available at 9, just maybe not a quarterback.
Thanks captn. obvious. I don't think anyone expects one to be "given to us on a silver platter". Have you seen a statement to that effect? Getting a franchise QB is always a high priority for all franchises that don't have one. If it isn't it should be as it's pretty obvious that finding that guy is the quickest route to success in the NFL. Point is that while finding a franchise QB may not be easy it's kind of like the lottery. You're guaranteed not to win it if you never play. The Phins have not been trying for over a decade prior to their first couple high draft picks at the position recently since Marino in 84. We deserve to be in the situation were in because we created it. It should be a priority of this franchise. "pluck one off a tree"? Seriously? LMAO.
I'm not comfortable with selling this entire draft and future picks for Luck. I don't think any prospect is a guarantee of anything. You trade a truckload of picks and that guy dosen't work out and you've not only failed at getting a top QB but you've deepened the hole of talent at multiple positions you hopefully would have hit on with some of those picks as well. If they are convinced Luck is the real deal then I'd respect the gamble if they made it but whoever does that better be right about him. At this point I'd rather trade down if possible and pick up a Weeden or Tannehill farther down while picking up an extra high pick. We have to to bring in a prospect at QB this year.
If anyone is there to pick up, I truly hope that guy is Russell Wilson. I realize he is short, but as I said, the kid can flat out ball, and played mostly under center in an offense that is more in line with what NFL teams run.
Yes you are correct, franchise QB's don't grow on trees. The fact is this franchise hasn't even tried to get one. We haven't drafted a QB in the 1st round in almost 30 YEARS! It is one thing to swing and miss, it happens, but this organization hasn't even picked up a bat. The MO on this team is to throw 2nd round picks at the position and hope that you find one in someone elses trash.
