"Nuts" is the only way Ireland had to describe the coming start of FA. Bring it on, and do it soon.

It'll get even nuttier if they don't reach a deal before the end of this month. Teams are going to need time to digest the new CBA rules and adjust their planning and budgets depending on how the salary cap and floor are set. Depending on how many years of service it takes to qualify for unrestricted free agency, it could be utter chaos just getting guys in for a visit.
Setting the business end aside, I hope these guys are on our buying list: Quintin Mikell, Marshal Yanda, Reggie Bush, Michael Bush. Adam Froman looks like a foregone conclusion as our third string QB, too. -
I believe that every FO has gone through what may happen a hundred times over, and will be ready to move at the drop of a hat.
Yanda is my choice after RB. He is a stud at G or T. -
dissapointed that we only have notebooks for our players and no iPads :(

Well, I just hope that "Nuts" does not mean "we won't sign anyone as we did not have enough time to find out what sort of toothpaste they use"
This regime can be a bit anal retentive at times...steveincolorado likes this. -
If they want to unload Vernon Carey and replace with Marshall Yanda, I'm not going to complain.
I think it'll be interesting to see what they do on defense. They're going to want another pass rusher. They only have two and they need three or more. A while ago Barry Jackson named Mathias Kiwanuka, Manny Lawson and Antwan Barnes as three guys they could show interest in. Obviously Nolan is familiar with Lawson.
Which guy you go for depends on what you have in mind.
If you believe in Koa Misi as a 3-4 OLB but you're just not sure if he packs enough punch in pass rush...you go with Antwan Barnes. No doubt about it. He's like Cameron Wake and having two guys rushing like that on obvious passing downs would be a pretty big boost to the defense IMO. Barnes is very effective in pass rush. I'm developing a soft spot for those shorter, quicker outside pass rushers that are able to use their height, hands and natural strength to maintain the leverage that they need but are also able to just plain out-quick most offensive tackles.
Lawson is the guy you get if you think either you're going to lose Cam Wake soon, or that Koa Misi probably isn't your guy long term. Or, if you think Koa Misi is moving inside, which I've always thought would be a bad idea (at least not this early in his career), then maybe you go for Lawson. He's more the Matt Roth type but with more athleticism and so he's better in coverage. Long, rangy, powerful, good against the run. Best in pass rush when he's able to rush from an up position like a blitzer and force someone to come out to him. He doesn't move with urgency or much quickness IMO, and he's not what I would deem "scrappy" unlike the other three pass rushers in the 49ers' system (Laboy, Haralson and Brooks). He can use his length and long arms to keep blockers off his body and shed them. But he's not the kind of 3rd down pass rusher I think you count on...he's more a 1st/2nd down type of guy. That's what Koa Misi is right now, except he's more scrappy, has a better motor, more quickness. If he develops better instincts in pass coverage he could/should end up a better player than Lawson.
I'd rather go with Antwan Barnes. He'd make a good role player in the system. But you'd need another guy that you can trust to play OLB in base packages if Wake or Misi can't go. -
Okay, on a more serious note, Yanda definitely makes Carey expendable at RT, but he would also be the solution to a RG spot if the team were so inclined to play him there. I really wouldn't care which position he played, so long as he was in aqua and orange. Very underrated lineman.
And while we're raiding Ozzie Newsome's pantry, bringing in Josh Wilson to compete for a starting spot at CB would be fantastic. In terms of bang for the buck I'd argue he's a better free agent signing than Nnamdi Asomugha, who is an absolutely awesome corner but will get seriously overpaid. -
Read that Hasselback has a 1yr 7 million deal on the table, if true he won't leave Seattle. -

If we're talking about pass rushers, I'm going to bang my Wallace Gilberry drum again. The guy was one of the best interior-pass rushers last year at 268 pounds. The Chiefs toyed with him playing linebacker, but didn't end up converting him. I think there's a good chance he could fall somewhere in between Justin Tuck(A 270ish pound guy who can play outside in base packages and inside in nickel), and Matt Roth(an undersized 3-4 DE punching above his weight class). Him being a quality pass rusher on the edge isn't given, but given he's been able to handle interior linemen without being embarrassed any more than Roth was, you'd think he can more than stand up to tight ends.

I think Yanda would be an easier contract to fit in to our OL. Carey's salary was under $1M the first two years but now goes to $4.15, $5.05,and $5.65M. I don't know that we can afford a third big contract on a G. If Carey is back to 08/09 form, Yanda, who is 26, can play G for this year and RT next year. This would justify the money, allow Jerry more time to develop, and give us trade bait in Carey. He can also be a VG replacement for Carey if he does not look good.
I'm also thinking we could add two RBs, like a Ronnie with Sproles or a lesser COP back with a Williams or Bradshaw. -
We're signing mr. Peanut?

I would like to add another olineman and a tightend to the roster and maybe another linebacker and dt.
