The guy scored 6 touchdowns last year (tied for 1st on the team with clay), with 3.7 yds per carry and his 55 yard run against the steelers in pittsburgh last year put us in position for the go ahead score. Im not saying I want him starting. At this point I want Moreno back there badly. But I don't see how Thomas being the #3 guy hurts us.
You make a good point, but I am simply not confident in his abilities. And I think there may be some good options on cut down. That is if you don't like Damien Williams.
Looking at the broadcast I think it's hard to see this but I was at the stadium and so I had a true bird's eye view of the play where Tannehill went deep to Wallace. Wallace says he got held but I thought the real problem was that Wallace drifted way too far to the inside whereas Tannehill thought to hit him on the outside. I think once the coach's tape is up you'll see it better. If Wallace and Tannehill were on the same page then it wouldn't have been an overthrow. But Wallace started coming inside to press his advantage over the corner to its fullest, whereas on that play with that route Tannehill is thinking outside shoulder placement. So Wallace doesn't see where the ball is going quick enough, has to make an awkward correction to the outside, and that's how you end up with the incompletion.
They probably won't waive him but if they do, we're 19th in the pecking order. Actually 18th, because Houston wouldn't count. At this point it is the same as the past draft order. At some point in the season the waiver claim order changes to reflect the current season's W-L records. IIRC.
I think one of the best stats so far this offseason Tannehill has a 8.6 ypa (15/20 172), which is a big improvement from his 6.7 & 6.8 the last two years. Hopefully this becomes a staple of a Bill Lazor offense, and looking at Matt Moore's 8.3 ypa tonight, it just might be. To put that in perspective, a 8.3 ypa would match Peyton last year (#3), only behind Rogers (8.7) and Bill Lazor's previous QB, Foles (9.1). Just think what could be if we connect on a deep ball to Wallace once in a while!
Just watching it live, I thought Ellerbe played one of his better games since he's been here. Granted with more snaps, he'd have more chances to screw up. Wilson should spend the entire week doing wrap up drills. You don't just throw a shoulder up high on a guy like Evans and expect positive results. Fogg and Clarke are pretty awful. They both look like definite first round of cuts goners to me.
Granted, McCoy is a top 5 DT in this league, but still Thomas should have been able to get at least a draw sometimes. McCoy abused him badly on play after play. They definitely need to get Billy Turner or Smith more reps there.
I think Fede is very likely, given Jordan's suspension. Tripp is a lock to make it IMO. McCain probably will if we keep 7 LBs. A. Johnson's main competition would probably be Francis, who was out tonight as near as I could tell. If we keep 4 DTs, I'd say Johnson is very likely to be the 4th.
Starting Dallas Thomas at RG would be an excellent sign that this coaching staff still doesn't get it.
Devlin was waived/injured. When he cleared waivers he automatically went to Miami's IR, but I also read he was then released off IR with an injury settlement.
I disagree. If he bounces back well in practices and has a good week he should start against Dallas. Unless Billy Turner/Shelly Smith play better against the first team
I'd like to see Tripp and McCain get some 1st team reps at the OLB spots with Misi remaining at Mike. Tripp may have been in with most of the 1st team D at some point tonight for a couple of series, but I don't think McCain was.
Williams isn't that tall. 6'1. Right in the Wallace/Hartline/Gibson range. Binns is 6'3 though and currently our tallest WR. I'd say Williams is currently 6th among WRs though, and Binns is 7th. Actually their combine/pro day heights & weights were as follows. Wallace 6003 199 Williams 6005 197 Gibson 6003 206 Hartline 6015 195 Cone 6024 216 Binns 6030 209 Landry 5114 205 Matthews 6003 217
With Turner though, any lack of anchor is all about technique. You can coach technique. The dude has some sand in his pants. Thomas has questionable technique too, and just looks really weak besides.
Cone looked decent tonight. And he is a very good special teams player. That would give him advantage over some others. I guess Hazel is practice squad bound if that.
Anythiny Johnson played well Ro, I just wrote a breakdown in another thread, one play he just manhandled the dude and finished the play..I see him making the roster.
I agree. I understand they owe Thomas a shot at starting but it looks like Turner deserves it. In fairness, Thomas went against McCoy. Also, with young guys who are new at the position like Turner, coaches have to be careful and watch them closely, cause they don't have the body of work to trust them, and neither does Turner have the experience. Hopefully he'll develop exponentially and be ready for the season. But I agree with the general sentiment, Turner needs to be in there with the first team.
No TE sightings? Sims? Egnew hurt? I didn't see the game and don't think I read one TE comment in 30 pages.
If Wilson tries one more of those lame *** tackle attempts like did on Evans, I'd rather make Walt Aikens the temporary fill in for Jones. At least Aikens has shown a few times he actually understands the concept of wrapping up or trying to wrap up. Wilson didn't even try.
I'd name either he or Smith the first team RG at the next practice. While it's true that Thomas was being abused mostly by one of the best DTs in recent history, he also sucked last week against 'Lanna.
Sims had a nice catch on the first drive, got down the field on a curl made himself available and made the catch
Did u see the one on sefarian Jenkins, it was just as bad clean, just got lucky... Wtf is the matter with this moron, your a defensive football player, tackle the freaking guy Will ya.
I'm thinking Lynch does not make it. They have Clay, Sims, Egnew, Miller, Bracket. What do they need Lynch for?
The shocking thing to me about the TE position so far this offseason is that, between the three that have a real shot (Egnew, Sims, and Brackett), they have been targeted seven times and have made seven catches. (Lynch is 0 for 0.) L Miller also has four catches in four targets. Heck, even Matthews/Gibson/Landry have eleven catches in fourteen targets, which seems great for the slot.
Hazel is healthy but still cannot get more playing time. I'd say he is no better than the 9th WR right now and no better than a PS candidate. I'd like to see Lynch get healthy, whatever is wrong with him, and get into these final two games before passing judgement. I had no problem with his being drafted at the time.
Lamar does, but not Kyle, who is a TE, like the guys you were discussing right before mentioning a Miller.
