Miami’s Jarvis Landry sees himself as the best receiver in the NFL, and he’s certainly the best receiver on the Dolphins. But he had a quiet game on Sunday, with just three catches for 33 yards. That’s not Landry’s fault, says Dolphins coach Adam Gase. Instead, Gase puts it on himself.
“I did a bad job yesterday,” Gase said on Monday when asked why Landry didn’t get the ball more on Sunday. “We got in a couple of situations, they play some different personnel groupings. He’s so valuable to us in the slot. Then when we lost Kenny [Stills] and DeVante [Parker] kind of was struggling a little bit, as far as couldn’t really open up the way he had done during the week. I have to find a way to get [Landry] the ball.”
Gase says the problem wasn’t that Ryan Tannehill wasn’t getting the ball to Landry, but that Gase himself wasn’t calling the right plays for Tannehill to get the ball to Landry.
“That’s all on me,” Gase said. “Ryan does a good job of making sure we’re in a good play, gets him the ball when his number is called. I don’t want him forcing the ball. It’s my job to make sure that our best player on offense is getting the ball.”
Landry will surely appreciate hearing his coach vow to get him the ball — and taking responsibility for Landry’s subpar game, rather than putting the blame on

I'm all for it, with the sole reservation that we ought not sacrifice the run/pass balance of the past few weeks.

Love Gase, I'm sure Landry and the rest of the team loves to read stuff like this. He knows how to push the right buttons.

Landry didn't complain. was the first to jump on the file when Drake scored the td. Im sure his body appreciates a win and he didn't have to work a lot.

Some here think Landry getting the ball so many times a game is a negative. I think I'll side with Gase on this one. "Best player on offense".

One of the things I was looking for with Gase was an improvement in this dept. So far we have it. He's at 12.3 per catch, which is solid for what he does.
2015: 10.3 targets per game. 8.1 in games we won.
2016: First 4 weeks - 11.25 targets per game (we went 1-3)
2016: Last 4 weeks - 6.5 targets per game (we went 3-1) -
I like it. He's already shown hes not afraid to call out players for poor performances. Im sure the players love to see him call himself out for his own mistakes.

I don't know that they will. But siding with one could potentially divide a unit or team. We'll see how it goes, esp. if he makes more "mistakes" in the future by not getting the ball to Landry. Just don't want a Brandon Marshall/Mike Wallace type of thing happening.
With that, he takes the blame away from his QB, which may be the whole reason for this admission.Finster likes this. -
