I don't think that 'gay' was evolved because it bestows a genetic advantage. If it is a mutation, it remains because it has little effect on survival of the majority of the species.

The evidence is that mutations are random and not 'forced' by conditions. Rather than an organism 'evolving' mutations to survive a change in the environment, experiments suggest that mutations happen before the change in conditions and the organism that have a beneficial mutation that leads to a greater chance of surviving the change. When the mutation is not tied to survival of the individual, there is no specific pressure to rid the mutation by dying.

For example, birds still have their dinosaur ancestor's gene that codes for scales rather than feathers but a mutation caused the gene expression of feathers rather than scales in modern birds.

it does seem like science is trying to make a correlation where there seems to be no way to prove it or little to no proof......

No, not peer reviewed science. Anything you see in PLoS ONE should be suspect and any time a psychologist tries to 'mathematically model' genetics, it is potentially crap science.

Evidence seems to most strongly point to a biochemical influence on the fetus as being responsible for homosexuals and not genetics.

I will find you some mainstream journal article tomorrow brother. PLoS ONE is a hack 'journal'.

I just downloaded the new Firefox and it killed my bookmarks. Thankfully, I am slightly more prepared than the average bear (a Yogi reference - not a gay one) to restore defaults. :)

That is exactly the thing most people, myself included until corrected, misunderstand about evolution. Evolution is not the result of an organism constantly trying to improve itself, but it is the result of survival. A genetic mutation that makes you more likely to survive your elements and breed makes your "version" of your species more likely to multiply into future generations.

As for homosexuality, there was a piece on 60 minutes last year that showed the more older brother's you had, the more likely you were to turn out gay. Yet the same wasn't true for girls.
