LT may be a hall of famer, but he sucked in SD during those last few years. Always hurt and always dancing. Besides McNeil, their o-line sucks. They've been horrible for a few years now. Jackson and Gates are legit. Everyone else is suspect at best. Floyd had a good game today, but he is hardly elite. Not even close. Darren Sproles is alright, but he's not that good. He's useful out of the backfield, but that's about it. Even then, he's not better than say, Kevin Faulk.

Without LT (or any good running back), Jackson, McNiel, and still a horrible Oline, below avg. WR, he's thrown for 11 TD/4INT 63% completion, 1760 yards.

    Overrated? OK...

You're argument is the same one used against Peyton Manning before he won his 1st and only SB.

EDIT: Flacco has very good upside, although I wouldn't say more than Rivers. Ryan on the other hand is fool's gold. He'll never be a top 5 QB. Not even top 10. The guy doesn't have the arm for it.

Ginn started the game off with a nice return to the 50. He still trends towards the sideline too fast IMO.

It's all in that link by Dr. Z I posted

Don Coryell took it to the highest flying heights. Dr. Z traces it to Frank Schmidt at OSU even before Gillman.

I think you need to take a closer look at the Falcons. After his first 12 games in the NFL, Matt Ryan has cratered. He hasn’t been Mark Sanchez bad, but he hasn’t exactly lived up to the hype.

man are you a phillip rivers excuse maker..

Their unit of Jackson, Naanee, and floyd is not below average, just the opposite, gates is elite, sproiles is a probowl scat back and returner, and I know LT sucked the past 2 years there, however he was there in the flesh, and in his twentie's..

What else do you want for your boy?..lol

guy hasn't won sh%$ with way above skillset players..

What was his excuse in the Jet game at home?..

Jets D strangled that guy.couldn't get the ball off, and when he did, his velocity was poor.

Crabtree has some incredibly quick feet and he has strong wrists. He was a poor route runner coming out but those are two things he's always had.

If you watch him catch the ball and take contact, he hangs on to it. For example, Anquan Boldin.

Which is why you'll never be an NFL GM.

Rivers has more talent that both those guys combined.

Cratered means he’s fallen a decent distance.

I’m not the only one to question Matt Ryan. Is he a franchise QB? If he played the way he did the first 12 weeks of 2008, yes, no question. But that streak is becoming more an aberration and not a norm. His numbers are good but nothing great, he’s not leading the Falcons to new heights, and Joe Flacco is catching up to him.

Ryan doesn’t seem to be improving to my eyes.

I can’t see Ryan ever cracking the pantheon of top 5 QBs, which is basically what you expect from a guy drafted #3 overall.

    Good, but not great.

I'm not. And what I said was true. Ryan is overrated and Flacco is all potential at this point (although I do like him and think he's talented). Rivers is a legit top 5 QB in the nfl.

And yes, I do want Michael Vick. A playmaking QB who has taken lesser teams into the playoffs. Why is that stupid again?

It’s possible, but I’m not as high on that chance as you are. I’d be very surprised if we ever talked about “Matt Ryan, elite quarterback”.

And for the record, yes, I do think Philip Rivers is a top five QB right now. I think it’s Brees, Brady, Manning, Rodgers, Rivers in that order. Schaub, Vick(!), Roethlisberger, Romo, and McNabb round out the top ten in my view.

I disagree about Vick’s history. Before this season, he was never a good quarterback, just an outstanding athlete. He never put in the work to become a good quarterback, by his own admission.

I think he’ll be very good for the next 4 years in Philly.

I don't understand how Alex Smith, a guy who is in his sixth year now (?), still doesn't understand basics.

You never know. I never said he would be elite, I said good. However, you never know.

Pick your order but that top 5 is more than one level above the rest imo.

Ofcourse Rivers is better than Flacco and Ryan?

He did lead some lame Atlanta teams devoid of any offensive talent to the playoffs though. I would agree, he regressed in Jim Mora jr. system. The lack of dedication and talent produced a mix bag in terms of throwing.

I do think he's changed his work ethic. I do think he can throw (always had a gun, could squeeze passes in tight windows), and now he has the work ethic to go along with athletic ability.

He won't be getting a contract in Philly though. They've invested in Kolb and Vick will be free next year.

I think Ryan will be fine, the term "elite" Qb is used a bit to often today when what 9? 10? Qb's threw for 4k yds.

Alex Smith's problem is fairly clear to me, dude is a front runner Qb, when things go badly he crumbles.

I respect your eye Des, but QB's that equal their level of play in their sophmore year relative to their 1st year sucesses, is not the norm, usually an even plane in that 2nd year is considered progression,. and he is now ascending in his third..

Flacco seems to be on the same path...

I will almost bet you that Ryan has the skillset and makeup to play as well and better as he did for 12 games his rookie year...to think differently about that concept is strange to me in this case.
