It's a no-brainer why Mallett transferred when he heard Rodriguez coming in. The upperclassmen and recruits that were under Carr certainly were not happy to convert to a spread offense form a more pro-style one. Plus, Lloyd Carr was a great players coach and an unheralded mentor for the Wolverines. Rodriguez is none of that and also lacks Carr's class and integrity.

why would anyone, much less Urbane Meyer want to leave Florida for Meeshigan? He's got everything he wants including better talent, weather and conference to compete in. Two years from now ol Les will be a candidate again.

I can see the 'New Challenge' angle. He can't really accomplish anything more in Florida. It all depends whether he'd rather just keep it a powerhouse or try and build something new. Nothing wrong with either one.

If you look at what I quoted and the conversation with Don its referring to the Notre Dame coaching position. Its no secret that Meyer's Dream job was/is Notre Dame. I would hate to see him leave Florida but its possible.

    It's his dream job

He loves ND, if recent articles are to be believed he only turned ND down last time because of his young family. I dont see him leaving UF yet, but it could happen eventually.

At this point I don't see why he would ever want to leave Florida. Its one of the top jobs in the country and you have a chance at more than enough recruits.

There are coaches that would rather attack a new challenge than sit on guaranteed success. I don't blame them.

Yeah there are coaches like that want to move up however when you coach in the SEC their is no bigger challenge year in and year out. If he goes to Notre Dame it wont be because of a challenge it will be because he wanted to be there in his life. Being a head coach in the SEC is never guranteed success.

It is a much bigger challenge to build a smaller school up, or in ND's case a big school that has been on a landslide the last few seasons. At Florida in the SEC the recruits will always be there, you can't say the same about a smaller school. At Florida he will probably win a NC every 3-6 years or at least get to one, but at another place it will be different.

Are you kidding me? Your comparing a small school to Notre Dame? Really? Notre Dame get recruits based on the name alone and most small schools dont have that. How many small schools have there own major TV deal? Did not know it was such a challenge to go play teams like Navy and Syracuse. Its a challenge to play in the best conference in America plain and simple!

I'm talking about coaches in general. I said it's a challenge to either build up or bring back a program. Sure it's a challenge to play in the SEC but it's not that bad, you guys seem to flatter yourself. Your conference games are always going to be very tough yes, but recruiting is easier for SEC schools then anywhere else, as is building a dynasty.

ND is a bigger challenge. You dont play as tough a schedule, but there is more to it than just that.

SEC is better when you compare ALL the teams not just the top teams in the country.

It is very easy to recruit in the SEC however all the teams recruit well. When you have alot of the top talent all in the same conference than it will be tougher to win that conference.

It won't be hard for a coach to come in there and build back Notre Dame. Its taken Charlie Weis way too long to do sooo. Great coaches will win with good talent and Notre Dame has good talent

Recruiting is a tougher job 'cause you have to recruit nationally. Florida most of your talent comes from your back yard. Far far more scrutiny, etc etc etc. To think the challenge of a coaching job is just about schedule is a bit silly.

The Best talent comes from all over the country. Florida recruits nationally as well. Thats not an excuse because Notre Dame has the tradition to get recruits. Ron Zook never had a year like Charlie Weis and was fired. So you think there is no Scrutiny there? There are tough challenges at every great coaching job

Yes, but no where close to the level that is required at Notre Dame. The majority of your players come from Florida, that isnt a bad thing. They have a recruiting hot bed in their backyard, and the Florida schools take advantage of that. Even the article I posted about why Meyer turned ND down in the first place mentioned that recruiting nationally as opposed to more locally at UF was a major factor.

ND wasnt getting recruits they currently are. Weis and his staff are great recruiters, the same cant be said for Willingham and Davie. I didnt say ND was the only school where one is scrutinized, or that it was the only one with tough challenges. But some of its challenges are unique to that school. And the idea that ND is a tougher job than Florida is a reasonable, but perhaps a debatable, one.

Florida is now a top tier program but it doesn't have the prestige a ND has. ITs the reason Dick Rod took the job at Michigan because of its name.

More reason to go there is to turn it around. He is at the top in Florida can't get no better than possibly a 2nd National title in 3 years.

Does that apply to the great Dolphins franchise history too? A history, tbh, that pales in comparison to ND's :wink2:

Prestige is primarily about history, and few if any can beat ND in that regard.

Besides, bowl wins are overrated, everyone can do it. But few can lose all of them :hi5:

I will not disagree and say that Florida is not in a hot bed for recruiting. They are however they are usually fighting Miami, Florida State, every SEC team, Some ACC teams, and not to mention the other teams that recruit nationally. Every team know Florida is a hot bed and everyone come knocking on the door. Notre Dame has alot going for them in recruiting and can get a top 10 class every year.

Notre Dame was not recruiting that well before Weis got there is correct however thats not due to Notre Dame. That was due to the coaching staffs. Notre Dame is not tougher than Florida and Florida is not tougher than Notre Dame. They both have there challenges

    I don't disagree with that.

I guess some of you are overlooking the eligability issues between Notre Dame and every major program in the country...that and for the most part star athletes do not want to work hard in the classroom.

A Notre Dame coach has the toughest job in the country IMO, they dont accept very many dumb criminals who happen to be fast. So they cant really compete on a recruiting level because tradition is on the back burner for alot of kids IMO.

I am not saying by any mean that Florida is like Notre Dame when it comes to the Classroom however don't make that an excuse. Florida has turned down kids before because of grades and they were pretty high profile. Just becuase not everyone hears about it does not mean it does not happen. I know Notre Dame does have to turn down some kids as well. However they have alot of things going there way as well. Like I said before. There are different challenges at different schools that make those jobs equally as hard.
