King's severed head going home to Ghana
Was hacked off 170 years ago; discovered in jar last year in Netherlands
NBC World Blog

THE HAGUE, Netherlands - The severed head of King Badu Bonsu II is going home to Ghana, around 170 years after it was hacked off in retaliation for the slayings of two Dutch emissaries whose skulls were hung from the tribal leader's throne.

Bonsu's head was discovered last year in a jar of formaldehyde at the Leiden University Medical Center's anatomical collection by a Dutch author.

Ghana immediately asked for it to be returned and the Dutch government asked the hospital to cooperate.

It appears the Netherlands and my first girlfriend have alot in common. Both took an extremely long time to give head. Amirite?

not often Sections clever thread titles gets scooped, well done ohpee

want some more head?

When Billie Powell, known as Osceola died, Dr. Weedon cut off his head and placed it, like the Dutch, in a jar filled with formaldehyde. When his children misbehaved he put it in their room at night so Osceola could watch them, and they would behave.

I remember hearing that when Napoleon died, they cut off his..."Bonaparte." Apparently it was quite impressive. It measured an entire inch...

Rasputin's coroner did the same, but his was only a measly 11"...
