Oh my....I think this game could force me into a coma from pure nostalgia... I think I still have my ghostbusters toys from back in preschool. -Bustin makes me feel good!
ok.. Put in about 2 hours with this last night. I've got mixed feelings. Remember, i'm talking about the 360 version, not the PS3, Wii, or PC (I think it's for all the major consoles). Graphics - It looks great. Not as great as the early images shown when they announced it, but great anyways. It doesnt have a lot of consistency when it comes to what can or cant be shot with your plasma pack. typical video game crates can be shot through, and so can tables, but couches and certain fixtures are indestructible. Then later there's a couch you have to shoot through. When you shoot certain walls, it leaves the burn marks and some small fire (that looks very cool) then other walls nothing happens. It seems random and I noticed it very quickly. Sound -Nostalgia central. The voices are done by the actual Ghostbusters (or they are some DAMN good impersonators). And the Spooky/funny GB ambiance is completely in place. The plasma blasters sound legit, and I love that sound of them turning on. I spent a few minutes googling the sound, and couldn't find it. Get it yourself. Story - It's silly, pointless, and completely forgettable (so far). But it's GB, what do you want? Some crap about a Gozer exhibit in the museum and it releases all of these spirits in the city. Coincidentally, it releases some of the previous ghosts the GBs fought in the movies. You play the role of the nameless Rookie. They act like they're asking for your name, then Venkman says he doesn't wanna know your name. Which makes you the FNG (Military acronym, ask someone). Gameplay - This is where is fall apart for me.The plasma blaster feels fluid and I feel like it does what I want it to. The problem is that your character doesn't move too well. Ghost are constantly flying towards you fast or hurling things at you. There's no dodge, jump, or quick strafe to help you get out of the way. Furthermore, it takes WAY too long to take down some simple ghosts. I understand a 5 minute tug of war with Slimmer. But a 5 minute tug of war with 4 regs is neither cool nor fun. Uprgrades help your straffing and shooting, but not enough to make you feel like you have a chance of not getting hit. I found it very frustrating. Overall, it's fun. I don't think I'd spend $60 on it. But for nostalgic reason's it's worth playing. Also, remember that I'm only about 2 hours in. Maybe something changes....
I was at the local Wal-Mart today and the game was completely sold out for both the PS3 and 360. Remember I'm from a small town so that speaks volumes for how it appears this game is selling.
The more I play it, the more boring it gets. It's just far too lah for me. It's not fun... The entire game rides on the fact that Venkman is funny and they we love the movies.... Which is enough in some cases. But this thing got waaaay too boring waaaay too fast.
my dad recently gave me my toys we had saved and had stored up in his attic. i was going through my stuff today and saw all my GB stuff in there. Brought back a lot of (embarrassing) memories.
i rented it last night (360) and have to say it's really alot of fun....i'm glad they got the original voices, that just adds to the experience....gameplay is off at times, but overall a great renter....not sure how good the online multiplayer is tho, going to try that tonight
