http://www.thefinsiders.com/blog/2014/gill-sees-competitive-fire-in-aikens A short read on the fourth rounder.
The real question is, can he actually cover top WRs. He has the physical measurables in size and speed, but there are still questions about his overall ability to cover. I do like his aggressiveness that I've seen in videos. It's going to be an interesting battle with a healthy Taylor and with Finnegan. I think Davis has some talent but he faded pretty quickly.
Wilson is listed as a backup safety but never plays there. He is the nickel corner and last year was a pretty good one. I'm in no itching hurry to see Wilson sent down the road.
Yup. And his off-coverage as a corner leaves a lot to be desired...too much separation. He's better in press, imo, albeit against weak competition. I'm not sure he has good or quick enough footwork in space to play boundary corner in the NFL, especially with how much off coverage we play. Don't get me wrong: I hope he turns into one of these high-level big-bodied corners that are all the rage. But I think his size, skillset and youtube vids demand he get a real long look at safety.
While you are not itching, you would have to admit that replacing a pretty good one with a better one, is something that would be beneficial.
I think we should use Wilson in the box more. That's his strength IMO, being physical not covering the slot receiver.
I never said as much, just that his spot could be replaced by Aikens if Hickey isn't keen on extending him.
