I like how he keeps on praising them as good people as well as good players.

 

It is good to see that the Dolphins and the Canes haveing a better relationship than in the past ,not really sure why it took so long or even got to the point it was.

 

I'm not really sure why this is such a big deal. The Dolphins should try to have a good relationship with as many major college programs as possible. This is why you have a scouting department. They spread out across the country and keep tabs on programs and get the inside scoop from the college coaching staff. It makes sense that the Canes would be one of the easiest relationships to maintain since they are in the Fins backyard, but focusing on just the Canes seems a bit limiting.

But the Canes aren't a pipeline. Any team can draft players from UM. It's not like top prospects from there can chose to play for the Dolphins and tell everyone else no. They are drafted. Not a lot of choice for them. Now if the NFL moves to some sort of regional rights to players then I totally get the line of thinking. But having a good relationship with just one college, or even just a handful, is not that good of a thing. The Dolphins should have this type of relationship with EVERY Florida school and with most of the national powerhouses.

 

There certainly is an advantage in the sense that you can get better intel from the UM coaching staff on players.

Certainly you would like this type of relationship with every school in the country, but from a logistical standpoint its not feasible. There certainly are college staffs that the Dolphins trust more when it comes to players though.

 

Would you trust Randy Shannon's opinion?

When it comes down to it, it isn't very difficult to see the talent in UM players. There are a lot of talented players that don't succeed in the NFL though. You need to have the talent, as well as the character. Defining a prospect's character isn't easy for NFL teams. A lot of it comes down to trusting what their college coaches say about them. If Randy Shannon tells you someone has the character to succeed, you shouldn't put as much stock into it as if Al Golden tells you the same thing. At least Jeff Ireland didn't/doesn't.

 

Right, cause the Cowboys only draft from the esteemed State of Texas, and the Patriots, only from the State of New England.......


Lets see, who are the best teams with best drafting in the last decade?

Green Bay? How many are from Wisconsin?
Putzburgh? Cmon........
San Francisco.... Cali? Really?

We SERIOUSLY reached for every draft pick within the first 4 rounds, with the exception of one that came from the opposite coast......

 

I disagree. Every player we drafted was worth a pick at that spot, especially since there weren't many on the board who were better value at those draft picks.

Tannehill went where he should have; Miller, Egnew, and Martin are steals; Vernon may or may not be worth it but I had no problem with the pick on draft day.

 

Tannehill went a round too early.

Miller hasn't played an entire season due to injury. Look at the kid and he falls apart.

Egnew might or might not pan out. I do have high-hopes for him, but.....we will see.

Martin was an out and out steal. That was indeed a GREAT pick.


I actually like some of our later picks MUCH more than the so-called steals in the first three rounds.


But of course, we will have to wait 3 or so years to see exactly what we brought on-board.

 

Tannehill was the best player on one of the best offenses in the country.

Good thing we have two other running backs to split the load between, then.

Not sure what to say here except watch what he did with Blaine Gabbert at QB. Gabbert is an awful NFL QB but Egnew looked great; any of our three QBs will be the best Egnew has ever played with.

 

Even if it is your opinion that Tannehill went a round too early we needed a QB, we couldnt trade down cause KC wanted him and no one here but a small percentage wanted another season of 0-3 with a 57QBR vs teams with a winning record from Matt Moore. So what pray tell would you do with the 8th pick knowing full well you need a QB and this one is:
A) A very good prospect with a great arm, very good accuracy, good footwork, good ability to make reads/progressions, and a misleading completion percentage/INT rate due to 70+ drops
B) Familiar with the offense and coaches
C) High character
D) Has a lot of upside
E) Shows a willingness to contribute at different positions just to get on the field even though he was a HS QB who always felt he was the best QB A&M had despite losing out on the QB competition.

Miller and Vernon are high upside players, one of them, Vernon, at a serious position of need. I liked our draft in general even though I wanted Jeffery more then Martin in rd 2.

 

You love the Miller & Vernon picks and are cautious about the Tannehill pick, so......why does Golden's intel carry more weight to you then Sherman's? Sherman was a successful NFL head coach.

 

How can anyone dislike the Miller pick? He was a top 3 back in the draft and they got him in the 4th.

The kid gets hurt OFTEN.
He goes down with minimal contact... OFTEN.


I will say, he is a homerun type that can score on any given play...but, he won't be in enough plays to make that difference.

IF they can turn him into a receiving threat, something he didnt do enough of at U of M, then it could possibly turn into a nice pick.

 

Question is how long will the Canes stay relevant in a BCS conference that's making way less than the B10, B12, SEC, and P12? Word is building that FSU and Clemson are in talks to leave for the B12, with VT, NCState, and others looking to get out as well. Unless the U somehow lands a spot in the B10, or convinces FSU to bring them along, they'll be compete in with UF and FSU for local talent....only they'll have a fraction of the money, and will be in a basketball conference.
