I can't argue against Hunter, who is a fine back. But Hunter played on a team with Brandon Weeden at QB (342/511, 34 TDs, 13 INTs, 329 yards/game) and Justin Blackmon at wide receiver (111 receptions, 1,782 yards, 20 TDs, 148.5 yards/game in only 12 games). Hunter had weapons all over the field around him, while Thomas had none of that. Every defense that K-State faced knew that Thomas was going to get the ball at least 1/3 of the time. Beyond that, opposing defenses really had no fear that anyone else would beat them, especially after shattered leg bones ended the seasons of our two best wide receivers.''
We'll see Deej, he does have some stylistic issues, runs tall, not asked to blitz pickup often (or so I'd think), ball security. The last issue is the most important as I see Thomas as a change of direction/slasher type of back (he compares well to Freeman McNeil) and running through traffic requires ball security consciousness, think he will do fine especially with just a bit of effective coaching up.
Maybe a history lesson for you Deej, Zonk had to learn how to run the ball in the NFL, his rookie yr he broke his nose and burst an eardrum because he led with his head, he was taught to use his forearm like a shield as he ran into the los to protect his face. Worked out fairly well, now if we can get DTrain "some help" per Ireland, we can finally do some things on offense. And I'm fine with giving Sheets a shot at being the #2 running back.
