"He's done well," Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said. "He has a good feel for the game. I thought he did a good job in those situations today. ... I thought he had a good day.
"I like the way he's caught on to the system."
Philbin wants leaders, particularly at the quarterback position. Does Moore have the right stuff?
"We want a guy that can communicate in a positive fashion," Philbin said.
"He does that very well with his teammates. You want a guy that cares about winning, that cares about other people — not just Matt Moore being the starting quarterback."
Moore had some nice moments, and seemed to shine when connecting with Ochocinco or Bess.
Ochocinco setup the final play with a 16-yard catch. Bess extended an earlier drive with a spectacular left-handed diving catch."
Not much to say, just keeping y'all informed of the progressions.

Miami will eventually find a great QB again some day. However, I will go out on a limb and say that Matt Moore is not that guy. -
One thing that I noticed when CK posted the Brian Hartline highlights was how Moore was consistently late with his throws. -
No, I don't believe he has the tools to be a top QB. His arm is nothing special. His accuracy is nothing special. His ball placement is generally bad. He's small, dominable in the pocket, and this is why he fumbles so much (14 times in 13 games is Tony Banks bad). He's not really adding much in terms of the kind of running ability that hurts a defense.
He was around the 20th best quarterback in the NFL last year. And that was a good year for him, with Brandon Marshall as a receiving target. -
OK chief. How about you take the qualified passers in the league off Yahoo Sports and recalculate their passer ratings to account for rushing stats and fumbles, then get back to me on how Matt Moore's new rating ranks among the 34 qualified players.
I'll give you a hint. It starts with a 2. It ends with a 0.
LOL. -
MMoore is a good Qb, BUT he simply must improve his consistency in terms of underneath accuracy.
IMO, he belongs in a Coryell style not a WCO variant as his strength is deep ball accuracy his weakness is consistent ball placement.
All in all, I'd take Garrard but would not be too disappointed of MMoore started regardless of the opinions of others. -
I forgot where I read this, but I think it is a truism for evaluating QBs: Unless there are large men trying to kill the QB, any assessment of said QB is meaningless.
-
You guys realize we played playoff caliber football with Matt Moore? Nobody is calling him Tom Brady so save the drama. He does however have the tools to be in that second echelon of Qbs. He is.mobile and can make most throws. It just needs to all come together.
-
He's a good rhythm passer, and he has very good competitive nature, he's tough, Garrard has more tools to work with but I really don't care who wins the job at this point, I think they both will get their shot, and I think their both tough enough and good enough to lead us while the rookie develops, respectively, with a chance to make a run at 2nd place in the division.
-
I think Moore showed quite a damn bit really, for being thrown into the fire. It would be a shame if because he's normally a poor practice player, we discarded him without giving him a shot as the guy for a year.
I hope the fans are more patient with Tannehill than they have been with everyone else !xphinfanx likes this. -
When you look at his stats from last year against .500 teams, playoff teams, it isnt good.....
so fastforward to this year, because Miami's schedule is tit, he will put up stats, and then when they get rocked against a good team, people will be scratching their heads wondering were it went wrong....
Fin-O there was a reason he was a free agent and Miami picked him up when they did... -
-
MMoore is approaching 30 starts, what he "is" will become readily apparent.
I also personally think going into the season with a full camp will be a boon to him, if he wins the job. -
What a bunch of negative BS from u "diehards" im assuming Henne would've led us ro the promise land. GTFO outta here. -
Moore's rushing was bad, because of the 6 fumbles lost I'm assuming. How much of that goes on him can be debated forever. I can keep giving you things to support my claim from unbiased outsiders and you can keep telling me to hand calculate something on my own from yahoo but it won't matter. You're going to discredit Moore no matter what, just wish you had something better to back it up with, sport.
Edit: Image won't load :(
Can find the stats here: http://www.carolinahuddle.com/board...ith-matt-moore-all-better-than-cam-last-year/ -
-
A lot of the games he fumbled he was sacked 4 or 5 times. The ball is gonna come out. I agree that he needs to protect it better but the blame isnt all on him.
-
People try and bring up JUST the passing, as if the fumbles don't exist, but it's a simple fact that Matt Moore tied for the league lead at the position in fumbles with 14, and the man he tied with Blaine Gabbert is pretty much universally agreed to have been awful dealing with pressure in 2011, yet he did start more games than Moore so his fumbles per game were even less than Moore's.
Incidentally, your "stats" that you brought up are not "stats" at all. They're ratings. You should learn the difference. Those are subjective ratings done by people at Pro Football Focus who watch tape and rate plays on how "good" or "bad" they look, the same as I do.
You said that NOTHING but my "biased" opinion supports my statement that Matt Moore was about the #20 or so quarterback in the league last year. Yet *I* brought up an objective statistical measure, and all *YOU* brought up was essentially an opinion-based set of subjective ratings.
You made a ridiculous and absurd assertion that nothing objective backs up my conclusion that Moore was about the #20 quarterback in the league last year. You were wrong. That's all there is to it. I never said that there is conclusive objective evidence that Moore was definitely the #20 quarterback in the league last year. I have not shied away from that being my opinion. However, your assertion that there is zero objective evidence for that is flatly wrong. Just flat out wrong.PhinsRDbest and Steve-Mo like this. -

I think you're focused just too much on fumbles. He sure could add some weight to his frame but it's not like our line or rookie back helped him much in pass protection. We were rated 17th in run blocking and 30th in pass blocking.
I'd love to see your calculation for Moore though and your QB rating system play out for some other guys in the league.padre31 likes this. -
Moore had his faults, especially in some close games towards the end. But when do you ever expect a QB to play to his full potential in his 1st year with a team? Not to mention a season in which he got there a few months before it started and was prepped as the backup. He showed flashes, more than Henne ever did. Whether he can improve upon that is the question.
The fact that he got better as the season went along should be an indicator. Didn't he throw 15-5 down the stretch ? Fumbles are fixable ! We did have some of the worst pass protection in the whole league. Lets include that in the evaluation. -
Wait and see who's right.
Spoiler: It's me. :wink2:
I'm no hater... Moore just isn't very good. -
MMoore had a solid QBR, solid Td/Int ratio as well, and the D gave up 4 4th qtr leads, but once again..blame the Qb.
That said, Garrard is more athletic, more ball conscious and can rush for Td's, this is one of the reasons why I prefer him to MMoore..but who knows how it will play out? -
Matt Moore is nothing more than yet another wanna-be in a loooooong line of wanna-be QBs to play for the Miami Dolphins. He will fit somewhere between Joey Harrington and Gus Frerotte.
NEXT! -
Over 100 starts?
-
He was named the Miami Dolphins team MVP.
Im assuming you "gurus" didnt do the voting by the way you are pooping on the guy. -
You know, if we were discussing a rookie or second year player, then, yeah... I'd say give him some time to develop. But, Moore is no rookie. He's had his chances. He's an average NFL QB (at best), and unless you have a historically-good defense, an average QB just isn't going to cut it.
You guys can keep wishing, and hoping, and spinning the stats all you want... it just ain't gonna happen. It's Tannehill time. He's the guy they drafted, he's the guy they need to develop right now.
