Free agent CB Andre' Goodman has signed a multi-year contract with the Broncos, according to the National Football Post.
We'll wait for ex-Denver beat writer Adam Schefter to confirm. Goodman is turning 31 and coming off a career year. The Broncos' secondary looks very old.

well thats a bit unfortunate but i think we should be able to move on and find a decent young talent to fill his spot. At least i hope so.

:pity:
Looks like we will be signing another CB or getting one in the draft. -
Well thats pretty unfortunate. We are extremely thin at CB. I woudlnt be surprised to see news of us signing a CB in the next day or so, and I have no doubts we will be taking one in the draft as well. Theres no way we can go into the season with Will Allen, Jason Allen, nathan jones and joey thomas... Thats scary IMO...

Not unexpected, but we are paper thin at the corner back position now.
I had thought we would have had some Free Agents down to Miami for visits but we are standing pat, that is disconcerting...Bpk likes this. -
Bring back Surtain and Madison!

I hope we sign a FA CB. If we don't it makes us rather predictable entering the draft.
We'd HAVE to take a CB somewhere in those first three picks we have.
Unless Ireland and Parcells truly disdain CB's that much. -
We need to sign AND draft a CB relatively high.
I'd be all for spending some loot on Bryant McFadden at this stage.Kanye West and skippysphins like this. -

Broncos signed CB Andre' Goodman to a five-year, $25 million contract. The deal includes $10 million in guarantees.
Goodman played well his last two seasons as a Dolphin and picked off five passes in 2008, but the average age of Denver's projected starting DBs (Goodman, Champ Bailey, Brian Dawkins, Renaldo Hill) will be 32 on opening day. None of the four is under 30. The Broncos' secondary couldn't be much worse than it was last season, but it's significantly older.

All joking aside, I cannot figure out what Ireland is doing, it appears we are happy to stand pat even though next year could be uncapped meaning whatever we spend this season does not count so to speak.
I'd hate to think the unthinkable...Jason Allen is ready to be a full time starter at Cb....or Joey Thomas...or Nate Jones...

Wow looks like there was a certain someone in New England last year that liked the Fins secondary (or is just familiar with them). I can't say I am thrilled with this as I really wanted him back because it would have made the secondary better. Maybe someone will be picked up in FA and in the draft like others are saying. Still sad news for me. Overall the Wilson signing evens this out for me but still not thrilled.

Well, Goody got his final payday, 5 yrs 25 million, 10 million upfront.
15 million which he is likely to see maybe 6 million of at 3 million per season.
I'd think the upfront money is what kept us from re-upping him, 3 million per season is cut rate... -
Good for him.
Great guy with a great attitude.
I wish him luck rest of the way. -

No need to panic. Expect a cheaper veteran option and last years "double dip" in the draft to be at CB. Plus a flyer in the 7th or undrafted.
Remember we have our #1 for this year (Allen) and our nickel sewn up (Nate Jones) and Culver seems to be the 3rd safety/dime. So double dipping + vet ='s a lot of competition and if they happen to somehow score both times in the draft well you have Allen's replacement to.padre31 likes this. -
Didn't think much of him until last season where he really put it together and played very well for us. I like him and hope he can continue that success in Denver.
This pretty much guarantees we either sign a big FA corner, or draft one very high in the draft. -
Bummer that we didnt resign him, he played really well for us last year, and was at an all star level for the second half of it. Big loss considering the depth behind him.
Hopefully we pick up someone in free agency, and we also need to get some youth and skill via the draft. Seems like a fairly deep draft class this year, hopefully we take advantage of it. -
I wish him well, i really respected his personality, just not his physicality. -
How much cap do we have left? Do we have enough to sign Mcfadden, Bartell, or Bodden?
-
Wow, Can Miami please do something. It's boring watching every other team sign a FA, while we sit here doing nothing.
I just want everyone to know, I'm not questioning Bill Parcells, Jeff Ireland, and Tony Sporano. I just think bringing in another Cornerback would benefit us. -
Parcells/ireland will never give a CB the kind of deal their lookin for. -
We then went and replaced one of our insignificant free agents (R. Hill) with a much better and younger free agent (G. Wilson).
We already brought in a depth player to the interior OL (Berger).
I'm pretty happy with the offseason so far. Would I have liked to see Goodman sign back with us? Yeah, but only because he played real well this season, especially in the 2nd half of the season. But I'm sure we'll replace him with equal value and maybe younger too.
And don't forget the Cameron Wake signing. If he turns out to be anything it's a bonus.
We were busy early and got done what needed to get done. All that and we have a draft full of picks to look forward toTone_E, Rocky Raccoon and Clark Kent like this. -
We've taken care of our own important FA, and have had 3 solid signings. The FA period has not been fast and furious for anyone. There's still plenty of quality FA left, and I'm sure the Triumvirate will due their best to bring in quality players who fit our system, for the right price. -

Well here's my take on the CB hole issue.
The big difference between our defense in 2007 and our defense in 2008 was pass rush and coaching.
In 2007 our Defensive Backfield got torched like I've never seen a Dolphin defensive backfield get torched before.
We go into 2008 with the same defensive backfield except now we have Y. Bell back and it's like a totally different unit.
Coaching, Pass Rush, and Confidence seemed to be the biggest factor in the transformation of the unit and that's why I don't think we needed to go out and get Lito Sheppard, Asomugah, D. Hall, etc. We can sign a decent guy for depth and draft 2 DBs and I'll be happy with it.
I truly believe that with the exception of 5 or 6 guys, a CBs success is dependent on a pass rush, therefore (outside of those 5 or 6 guys) replacing them is not hard.
