Aight went for the physical today, and am quitting smoking...I feel like a douche ask for looks on this thread as there are people on here with REAL life issues.

I smoked weed from 12 until I graduated college, when I went into the miltary. I havent ever smoked the kron bud again but shortly after that I started to smoke cigs, then said I was gonna quit when I went to Iraq HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH didnt work, came back I quit for a year, then started again when I went to move my buddy back to RI, from Ohio after he got divorced after 9 years of marriage.....I'm ready again....

I hope nobody goes through trying to quit cigs, they suck, and I am pissed for doing it in the first place...dont do it...!!!!!!

My buddy is on Champix. Not sure if that is the same thing, here in Canada we have tougher controls, a lot of FDA approved drugs and supplements are illegal here in Canada.

But, he is on Champix and it is going very well for him. Apparently you take the drug and continue to smoke as you normally would. After two weeks or so your body begins to reject it and you start to feel nauseous etc.

He swears by the stuff and told me I should use it. I too smoke, unfortunately.

Good ole, Canadian HC system:up:....Yeah bro with this stuff you have to take it for a week, and you can still smoke, and on the 8th did you stop smoking or try to....

I did it one time 2 years ago when it first came out, and stopped right on the 8th day and didnt start again until a year and a half later....not this time though....this is for good...

They give you an starter pack of 4 weeks, and I took all 4 weeks, cuz my co-pay was 30 bucks for this sheet!! but again stopped dead on the 8th day.....it gives you stomach aches so eat something in the morning when u take it...

Lastly it blocks recepticales in your brain that want the nicotine, thus not creating the urge to smoke, trickes your brain so to speak....thats why they want you to take 7 days worth before trying to stop on the 8th day...it builds up in your body first...

    Do it Tone, do it!!

    LOL. I won't.

I think I can quit whenever I want, but sadly I enjoy it.

For example, at work, I can smoke whenever I want, and I usually only have 2-3 cigs a day. And that includes first thing in the morning and when I drive home.

    At home, one if that.

When I drink, or go out, I almost chain.

So my goal is to be that eventual, social smoker having one or two a month. And I feel I can achieve this whenever I want but choose not to at the moment.

Good luck man. I smoked for about 7 years on and off before I finally quit. I got very sick one time and had a really bad cough and I used that as motivation to quit. Hope the Chantix works for you.

I used chantix twice. The first time, I used it for 3 months and it worked well for me. Although I started back smoking about a month afterwards.....I tried it again about a year later, and I started having some bad side effects about a month into it. I just seemed to let things get to me alot more than I normally would...hard to explain. Nothing overly drastic, but just enough to where I just didnt want to mess with chantix anymore. So I stopped using it, then a week later things seemed back to normal. 2 months after that I quit cold turkey....Still havent smoked since Nov. 3rd!!

I quit smoking myself some 15 years ago. I used the Gum. It tasted like schit but it gave me the ability to get a quick fix of nicotine any time I wanted. It hits your system fast which was vital for my success.
Like you I started for stupid reasons. I guess anyone who did start smoking would be hard pressed to come up with a good reason to start. For me it was my divorce. I smoked a bit before I got married but I wasn't really hooked. I used to shoot a lot of pool and drink with friends. I would smoke when I played pool and that was about it. Sometimes I would sneak a smoke at other times but it wasnt that often.

When I got married I promised my wife I would quit. She never asked me to but I knew it bothered her so I did it on my own. When we separated I started smoking and I remember the thought proccess revolved around something as trivial as I will start smoking to show her. I can laugh at it now but that set me on a road where I would smoke at least 2 packs of cigarettes a day for a little over 10 years.

The first several weeks are going to be the hardest for you bro but unfortunately its not going to stop there. the Urge to smoke is going to last for several years. For me it was around 10. I know it sounds ominous bro bro you CAN do it. You will feel much better for having quit but you need to know you are in for the fight of your life.

Hell I still get cravings but these days its mainly for a good Cigar.

    wish i never started.
but thats freedom for you. some of us take liberties to do some pretty stupid stuff that just doesnt seem to add up when you look at the big picture.

It sounds like people have had pretty good success with it. I may have to try it pretty soon. I'm not sure why anyone would be against medicine to do it.

2 packs a day holy crap bro....yeah I didnt use that much, about 15 a day, but I hate them....the key is hitting the point where you have no ambition to do it anymore....whihc is where I am at now....

I took Chantix before and quit on the 8th day, which is the 1st day u r supposed to quit, and stayed off for a year and half.....I feel it will work again...this NOBODY around me smokes whihc is great, my mom even quit....I think it will be easier this time..

Research it, they say their are some side effects to it, namely vivid dreams, depression, stomach pains etc....

Last time I did it, I had bad stomach aches, but nothing else...This time I have been eating 1 piece of toast and some fruit every morning with it, and no stomach pains yet.....it is starting to work too, as the taste of the smoke is different, it makes smoking very unenjoyable...which is the point I guess....

I dont like taking medicine either, but will when it is called for, and everything works in different ways for people....so...at least research it, cuz the stuff does work....

What makes the two packs a day even worse is I worked for a company that you weren't allowed to smoke. When I say we wern't allowed to smoke I don't just mean at or during working hours. I mean we weren't allowed to smoke period. If they found out you were a smoker you would get fired. So I smoked 2 packs early morning and then again from the time I got a good enough distance from work till I fell asleep.

I smoke to cut down on the drooling years :wink2:

Seriously I love to smoke. I take the Dennis Leary approach which isn't the best way I know but it sure feels good. Plus I tend to smoke more when I'm sitting on the internet talking to all you other addicted freaks LOL. I vowed after the 2007 season to slow down my drinking (I was killing it during that season) and I did but now thanks to this website I am drinking again.

    Good for you fy!

    Well away from here
I used to smoke over a pack a day at one point, but I quit and have never looked back. Been "clean" for over 2 years, going on 3. That may seem like a long time, but it isn't.

By the way, even though you quit you still get the urge to smoke every now and then. You can control it, but every now and then it creeps up on you. Then you smell one and that turns you off again.

Good luck. I did it the first time, but it doesn't mean it will be that way for you. Keep your head up and every day you go without is one day closer to a new habit; not smoking.

and have you chosen a quit the drug day?

main thing now is to never to touch the stuff, ever , for any reason.

I remember waking many of times thinking that i had gone back to smoking or came close to buying a pack of Newport out of habit

    good luck bro

Haha. I've smoked cigarettes a few times. I smoke but its like between long periods. By periods, I mean three/five months. Never becomes a habit though. Don't care about it too much and I'd rather not spend money on it.

Dude that's how most of us started. I would only smoke when Playing pool with friends. Then I would only smoke when playing pool or while at a bar. Just don't do it man. If your not hooked now don't go down that road.

Thanks bro appreciated, quit on the 8th day of taking the medicine, which was Tuesday the 6th.....you take it for a week and let it build up in your system, and then stop smoking altogether on the 8th day, and let the medicine work...

I will take it for a month, because I have the supply for a month, then stop taking the medicine....its a 30 dollar co-pay....

Today I took my last Chantix pill and am glad to say that I have quit smoking and have not smoked in almost 3.5 weeks. Its been 16 years, but no more. The Chantix works great, never had a problem with any side effects other than it made me a little tired, but nothing bad. Good Luck to you

I've never smoked so I can't speak to quitting. But rejoice that you're all here to type about what you do and don't do in life.

My best friend's dad would basically light the new one before putting the old one out, I've never seen anyone smoke like that but it put him in an early grave.

Most of the people in my family have smoked at one point or another, blessedly all but my mom and nephew have now quit and I'm hopeful for them.

Wish you all the strength you need to get through it and that your body rebounds from the nicotine pretty quick!
