Just a thought I had about the best film makers alive today. Obviously a subjective topic but in the spirit of the recent threads. I suppose it's born out of a sick feeling in my stomach every time I see an article on how 'successful' Brett Ratner is. It's free for interpretation. I don't mind if you limit it to greatest active filmmakers, or include all those who remain alive. Whatever. Here's my list. 1. Jean-Luc Godard. 2. Woody Allen. 3. Eric Rohmer. 4. David Lynch. 5. Jacques Rivette. 6. Martin Scorcese. 7. Bernardo Bertolucci 8. Oliver Stone. 9. Werner Herzog. 10. Francis Ford Coppola. I could throw in names like Spike Lee and Wong-Kar Wai, but I'm sure Q will have more than enough superlatives for the latter. If anything can be taken from this list, it's the suspicious fact that most of those guys have been chain-smoking since they were in kindergarten and still are in better health than me. Damn the French. Go!
