he was better than most in the series, but IMO, nothing from Smallville should ever be translated to a real DC movie.
Be harder to find a bigger superman/DC comics fan than me, but that series was painful to watch most of the time. -
Really, I was also a DC kid. I've even written a screenplay for an Aquaman movie, but DC denied my petition to go forward with it.:cry:
Anyway, I like Smallville. At first, I had the same kind of revulsion to it. No costume, just Clark Kent in street clothes? But, I started watching it and it grew on me. I liked that Kryptonians weren't the epitome of nobility like they were when I was growing up.
Let's see where this series goes. Just so long as David E. Kelley doesn't direct it. -

On a superficial level, the casting choices look good, although Amell looks a little short. -

Within the DC Universe, IMO, Green Arrow should be edgier than any other character except Batman. He was way too campy in the 70's and 80's as Robin Hood in green.Fin D likes this.

I don't agree that they're all like that. You couldn't do Superman and Wonder Woman and make it too realistic. There's something more about Batman and Green Arrow in that they have more of a vigilante role to them.

I didn't say realistic, I said "grounded in some realism and have an edge". The Superman movies are the perfect example. The first 4 had zero semblance of realism and zero grit, and if you remove nostalgia they were horrible. In fact, they would be straight to video if they were released for the first time now. The newest one was better but still blew because though it had a tiny touch of grit it zero realism.
People are willing to accept someone has super powers if the world that hero exists in is realistic. Superman has his powers and that's fine, but don't then tell me someone can instantly create a continent out of kryptonite. -
I would agree on Superman III and IV, but I really enjoyed I and II. There were some things that I could do with out, like the disappearing, making the earth spin in reverse to turn back time, finger lasers, and flying S-shroud, but all in all, there was good plot and I thought that the tension between Superman as the hero and Luthor / Zod as the villain in both movies was especially good.

It wasn't an over the top lack of realism that made me dislike it so much. Actually, an s-shaped shroud is more plausible than shooting heat lasers from one's eyes, self-propelled flight, being able to tall building in a single bound, etc. They were simply unnecessary additional powers that don't appear in the comics.

Reading the overall set up they have for Oliver Queen...in contrast to the original DC character set up, I don't know...I have a feeling it's going to be completely different than the original character.
The only potential saving grace there is that since the background of Green Arrow is really not that well known, not like Batman's Bruce Wayne or Superman's Clark Kent, CW might be able to get away with establishing Oliver Queen however they want. -
The first image of GA in costume has been released. It's not very clear for me, so IMO, the jury is still out.
