They're saying he could "move into a senior advisory role" instead of retire per se. How good this news is depends on whether that senior advisory role means he's still in charge or not. As some of these articles point out, it might be similar to the role Tannenbaum had, and that wouldn't be a good thing.

Ultimately it's up to Ross. Very interesting rumor, but boy do the details matter.

Not sure about the save face theory. Doesn't happen as often as just straight up firing the person. I don't think Ross would have an issue with firing Grier. This move could be consistent (just speculating) with Ross thinking Grier is good at some things, but bad at some crucial stuff where he'd like someone else to take over. Retaining Grier is important in that case because you still want him for the things you think he's good at. For example, Grier's biggest weakness is drafting in rounds 3 or later. He wastes those picks way too much. He's actually decent in the first 2 rounds and FA. This kind of move would be consistent with letting someone else take over the draft while retaining some elements of Grier that Ross thinks is useful.

    I guess we'll see.

Sounds like a nice cushy job because Ross loves him or maybe a thank you for him being with franchise for so long which is fine by me. Definitely does not sound like him staying in charge.

    Great news IMO if true.

This is the way to fire someone and pay them to not burn down the house on the way out the door. I'm sure he's amassed many secrets over the years.

    Good.
He was like Flores or Tannehill in that he was slightly better than average, but not good enough for Superbowl success.
The complete inability to draft interior OL ruined so many seasons for us

I couldn't care less if they do. He's nothing but a below average GM and a cockroach that's been here since 2016 ensuring the mediocre performance of this franchise through his entire tenure. He needed to be gone when Flores was gone, and probably before that. As for the rest, try picking up on some humor once in a while. It's necessary when dealing with this team. There's not a single person here likely that wants Grier anywhere near this franchise.

A cockroach. Really?? Some of you have to really evaluate your metrics on how you evaluate people on a personal basis. Not a Dolphins employee basis. I get it people are pissed, but that’s kinda of cringe.

Ross is a businessman, he loves money. Let’s show him our displeasure by not opening our wallets to the team until there is real change. let the team play in a nearly empty stadium, don’t buy merch, don’t watch Phins games on TV.

I’m done with this team until they are done with Grier. Grier’s refusal to bring in healthy players, and to build the OL is ****ing criminal. He might be the nicest guy in the world but he sucks dick as a GM.

Conspiracy - this is Ross' final year or two with the team before he either sells or cedes total control. He knows that a rebuild will not do anything in his remaining time in charge, so feels he might as well run it back and hope to get lucky.

Or maybe he is just really good at making bad football decisions, I don't know. I kind of don't care. I already don't buy merch and I'm not a local and have never gone to a game in Miami so ... whatever. Go Lions.

Well, in reality, getting lucky with no injuries and better OL play would go a long way for this team. If we had a competent GM I’d be hopeful that they could address the oline issues. Maybe Grier will hit on that for once. (I won’t hold my breath though)

Ross bought the Dolphins in 2009 for $1.1 billion. That's about $1.6 billion today factoring in inflation. Dolphins are currently valued at $6.2 billion!! The money argument is in Ross' favor because so much of that value is due to media deals at the national level, not local level. The NFL is structured differently than MLB or NBA with revenue sharing from national deals. Ross is happy as hell from the money perspective with the Dolphins no matter what we do. Might as well watch, it won't make a difference.

The simple fact is that the Dolphins make Ross a **** ton of money, so there really is no reason to change anything from a business perspective.

They are the team we should be. Grier and McDaniel need to watch every one of their games from this season (especially tonight). They are everything we are not, from their front office, coaches to the players.

Sadly Grier ( and the HC) are being retained. Ross must be happy with the mediocrity they have brought to the team . Ross is by far the worst owner in the league.

I disagree...I thought the statement showed a little class when he said that he values continuity. I feel like he's blown up the leadership too quickly in the past and I'm glad we're not hitting the reset button. Because we've seen that show with Tannehill with new offenses every season and that's even more frustrating to me.

Here's my best guess- Hill was done with this team well before the media caught wind of it, and that's why he's been used sparingly. Combine that with Waddle being banged up and that's why TE Smith had such a big year. It was like the Landry season or the Hartline season all over again...they were the only ones available to catch the darn ball consistently. I honestly think Tyreek Hill was our biggest problem this year since his salary could have paid for three quality starters.

The game of football is so complicated because the 53 active players are so critical to compete in 21 games (all the way to the Super Bowl). I believe coaching, scouting, and recruiting are huge in their own rights, but when your four biggest superstars don't produce (Tua, Waddle, Hill, Ramsey) then it's going to be a tough season. I don't think we can "run it back" since Hill has to go, but with an active free agency and a healthy Tua, I still think we have a competitive team.

Anyway, great taking the ride with you guys this season. Until next year!

He hasn't blown up the GM position often. Grier has been kept far too long.

And I don't think we should have kept any of the HCs, from Sparano, Philbin, Gase to Flores. You seem to think it would have been better to keep those coaches longer! No way.

Continuity for continuity's sake is not a smart strategy. It's like not acknowledging a bad investment and keeping it around longer than you should. McD I'm fine with keeping another year because he's done well overall his first 3 years, but not Grier. This is bad decision-making by Ross.

Now that the season is final, the Dolphins had the WEAKEST schedule in the NFL this season. I don't see how they don't go backwards, especially without Hill stretching the field. They are treading water. Rip the bandaid off!
