With his game yesterday, Brain Hartline moved into 19th place all time in Fins history in receptions, with 192, passing Ronnie Brown (184). If he stays healthy, he's also going to move up that list quickly. Ahead of him on the list now are; 18. Marty Booker (194) 17. Ricky Williams (197) 16. Irving Fryar (199) 15. Tony Martin (202) 14. Howard Twilley (212) 13. Jim Kiick (221) 12. Oronde Gadsden (227) 11. Jim Jensen (229) 10. Bruce Hardy (256) 09. Duriel Harris (269) I think that its very possible that he passes all of them to move into the top ten in Fins history. He could also pass most of those same guys to move into as high as 8th place in yardage as well, with a much better YPC average than most of them. Not bad for a guy some people thought might make the squad his rookie year. I liked him a lot at Ohio St., and Im really glad that he's made his nitch with the team.
I really am starting to develop a man crush on Hartline. I like his game. All he does is show up to every game, makes plays, runs great routes, catches everything and never stops trying. I'm glad we signed him to a contract extension. This is the type of player you want on your team.
If he continues to end his TD allergies like he did yesterday, I'll be first in line to join his fan club.
The team scoring TDs is important. It doesnt matter who ends the drive, as long as someone does. A player who moves the ball down the field and makes first downs is important, even if he doesnt get into the end zone much. Hartline is starting to remind me a bit of McDuffie in his results, if not in style.
Its important to move the ball, but you have to score. We saw the importance of scoring last year when our receivers simply refused to cross the plane. Hartline is at the #2 spot where he belongs. This is a good thing.
Lol he is just going to fall down the list anyway lol (It is funny because Hartline falls down did you see what I did there lol)
Not worth the moneyyyy...... Actually, just objectively Miami has not been a team who produced "all time" type offensive players who dominate for a decade, even looking back at the SB teams, those guys are not really up the list of "all time NFL" offensive players aside from Marino.
On most of his catches, he reminds me of one of those wind up rubber band toys... A flurry of motion, then a sudden stop, or in his case, a fall to the ground. That TD catch yesterday matched his season total from last season... and 2011... and 2010... the only time he has had more than 1 TD was his rookie season, in which he caught 3 TDs. Hopefully, he and Gibson will have at least 5 or 6 this season and Wallace twice that.
Probably the smartest receiver I have ever seen. The way he manipulates defenders is amazing. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
I love Hartline, man. Yeah, I would love to see him score more touchdowns like yesterday, but the man is about as reliable as a receiver as you can find. He catches everything thrown to him and he works the sidelines to perfection. Not to mention, Tannehill and him have tremendous chemistry.
IMO he is a good #2 WR. I defended his resigning based on that evaluation and his rapport with RT. I like his chances against most DBs one on one. He's simply a guy who's pretty good at almost everything. He doesn't have that one physical characteristic that makes him able to dominate, but he is great at running very consistent routes and catching the ball consistently.
Jim Jensen #11? Holy crap, wd never have guessed that. I do love Hartline's workmanlike approach and effort.
Marty Booker is susprising. Also surprised to not see Chambers there. Sent from my LG-MS770 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I've been in his fan club since his rookie season. If he starts scoring TDs I might have to get a doll. In effigy or something.
I think hartline was perfect yesterday. I don't think he had a single misstep. He was perfect. Just crazy watching him. Really proud
This is what's important to me. A QB/receiver chemistry is incredibly important, and I think good chemistry produces good results. Well, that and plus talent.
I think a great example of that is Manning/Marvin Harrison. I'm not claiming that Tannehill/Hartline are or even will be on that level, but it is a great example of good chemistry producing good results. Arguably neither Manning or Harrison had superlative physical gifts relative to their competition, but they were so in sync that they were hard to stop.
Hartline has certainly exceeded expectations since he has been here. In fact, compared to all the other flops that we have drafted, tracing back to the JJ regime, one could argue that Hartline has been the most reliable and consistent WR that this team has drafted in 15 years. Pretty shocking and sad when you think of the WR's we have passed over. Not a knock on Hartline, who I love, but the bar was set really low. And before anyone chimes in, yes, I think Hartline is better than Chambers and will have a longer and more productive career than Chambers did here.
It's funny but when I wrote that, in my head I was thinking Marvin Harrison. Which raf's just posted about above. Not tall. Not strong. Pretty fast though when he was younger. But dude just got open. EDIT: Youtube Marvin Harrison's highlights. His route running are off the charts. Just amazing to watch. Weird thing is he never said a word in his career, then we find out he's a freaking gangster.
True, although you do see Duper and Clayton on all-time receiving duo lists from time to time. I'm definitely rooting for Hartline. Hell my girl picked him up in her Rookie FF season this year - paid off yesterday!
I only included guys that Hartline could potentially pass on the team list this season. He could theorhetically move up higher than #9, but thats as high as he'd go if he had a season slightly better than last year.
FYI 8. Randy McMichael (283) 7. Davone Bess (321) 6. Tony Nathan (383) 5. Chris Chambers (405) 4. OJ. McDuffie (415) 3. Nat Moore (510) 2. Mark Duper (511) 1. Mark Clayton (550)
This is funny the #2 gets the majority of catches and yardage. Not arguing your point just pointing out how being called #2 just isn't always right.
Based on his contract and surrounding cast I would say that Hartline making it to the top 5 by the end of his time here is reasonably possible assuming the health of all relevant parties.
I don't like the #1/#2 distinction to begin with, but I definitely don't think it fits Hartline. It's an arbitrary assessment of talent(or in a lot of cases, hype), rather than a measure of targets or snap count or something tangible. Brian Hartline is going to get more targets than Mike Wallace. Brian Hartline isn't going to get a whole lot less targets than anyone you put next to him in this offense outside of a couple guys in this league.
For me the designation was always a reflection of impact rather than targets. I define a true #1 as someone who changes the way the defense defends and is able to produce despite the defense's focus on him. A good #2 is just a good receiver that can produce against regular one on one coverage. Hartline isn't a true #1, obviously. Even Wallace only fits half of the definition for me, thus far. He clearly changes how the defense defends, but hasn't proven that he can still be productive despite that focus. I'm not even sure it was Wallace's fault though. I thought there were several opportunities to hit him on hitches and slants with the huge cushion he was often given. You add 5 - 8 of those to his totals and nobody is complaining about his production in that first game. And that's assuming he gets tackled immediately and doesn't break away on any of those or that it didn't open a deeper completion.
So far I've seen the words "smart, good route runner and "workman like". I haven't seen "gritty" "tough" or "deceptive speed" yet. Gotta get that hexa-white WR codeword word score.
He should crack the top ten by the end of the season. He needs 64 receptions to tie Hardy. That averages out to roughly 4 receptions per game. Being that he and Tanny seem to have chemistry, I could see a season where he gets 80-90 receptions, around 1,000 yards, and 5 or 6 TD's. Solid stats from your #2 WR IMHO.
