Hawking bets CERN mega-machine won't find 'God's Particle'

Here are three short but excellent videos explaining more about strong and weak forces and the project at CERN.

I'm not afraid to admit that I have no idea what the hell he's tallking about.
This one is way over my head.finswin56 likes this. -

I believe that it is also explained in the third video but can't be sure. It is the only one in the series I haven't had a chance to watch yet today. -

I believe this relates to string theory in case you are wondering............
At least most often when you mention weak, and strong forces you are refering to string theory.
edit: If I am thinking of the right thing the colliders use energy to try to break apart particles and basically see how far they can go. -
I think that in source, colliders actually use Accelerators which are a system of magnetic fields that actually accelerate Atoms.
At places along that accelerated path, branches are split off at which point different sciences can study the affects going on within the accelerator.
My understanding is that a Collider actually actually collides two of these paths and viola.....
Bet somebody can educate me in my wrong ways, but I think some of this is truth.unluckyluciano likes this. -

I once knew a very smart man that worked on Accelerators and such. He forgot more in a day than I will learn in a lifetimeunluckyluciano likes this. -

Amc Gremlin? That sounds more like a Decelerator
Like a Rolls Knardly

I agree with Hawking .It unlikely they will find the god particle but I think the collider will uncover other particles which have been theorized but not proven .
One theory is that gravity is associated with a particle and that would be an important advanceazfinfanmang likes this. -
Guess I was just under the impression that any charged particle created its own gravitational field? -
edit: And the gravitational field is part of einsteins theory of relativity/special relativity..............azfinfanmang likes this. -

I'm not giving up!
I'm waiting to get home so I can review these films you've provided to ejumacate meself.Celtkin and azfinfanmang like this. -
So this is the thing that will create black holes which will eventually consume us by 2012??
