After being cut midseason by Nick Saban, Evans and Daboll spent the rest of the '05 and '06 seasons together in New England.

Ironically, Daboll has been lauded for his work with the receivers during his time with the Pats.
At any rate, this is an active player openly criticizing this coach. Evans, if you don't know, is a pretty straight shooter when asked a question. So it's no surprise to me that he would share this. And this is about as damning a criticism that a player can make against a coach.

Well hell, since Heath Evans says it, any chance they polled Henne's momma as well?
This is becoming sort of sad.Ophinerated and smahtaz like this. -
Like if a guy isn't a superstar, his opinion can't be taken seriously. What does skill level have to do with anything anyway?
If the opinion of a 10-year NFL veteran means nothing on the matter, what does that say about ours?
I hope he's wrong as much as the next Dolfan. But from a 10,000-foot view, whose opinion is more likely to be correct? The guy who spent 2 years with him, or some slug like me on an internet forum? -
I'm not a fan of the Daboll hire, but Heath Evans' opinion has about as much value as the US dollar.
-
Lebetard reading a email from Chad Henne's mother? Lavicka dredging up Heath Evans who knew Daboll 5 seasons ago?
At what point do they act like grownups?
Wouldn't it make more sense to bang the gong on Darren Rizzi whose unit performed as poorly as Bonamego's but apparently has been lost in the shuffle and retained by Sparano? -
It's just like I always say (complain). Why do we get bent out of shape as if players come out and proclaim controversial things? The reporters ask them questions, and they answer them. Not the other way around. ;) We can not like what they say, but I don't subscribe to the automatic "he's an idiot" stuff.
LeBatard has douche like tendencies. I didn't hear him read the email, but I don't like it one bit.Loyal Fin, NaboCane, DolfanJake and 1 other person like this. -
And Evans could be wrong. I mean, could we get 'worse' than Dan Henning?
Probably not.
But the gains might not be all that great.
Solidify the QB situation and he'll become an improved coach immediately. Coach them up right and he's even better.DolfanJake, jetssuck and dolfan7171 like this. -
The thing is to me that it just looks like an attempt to posion the well before Daboll ever blows his whistle during a practice, he may be Henning Jr., he may not be, the slings and daggers are coming out a bit early for the man aren't they?
With Rizzi, his unit was demonstrably terrible, he was retained, and no one says a thing? My goodness it can be said for a fact the man did a poor job and yet the guy who has not done anything one way or another is the one already being hit up?Disnardo likes this. -
Evans could say he's the best OC ever and we're destined to win SBs with him and my reaction would still be :confused2:Colorado Dolfan and Killerphins like this. -
You kind of get the impression that Ross is sabotaging this team in favour of the team he originally intended to purchase... (no wait, that's not funny – that's sad :()DolfanJake likes this. -
Did Heath Evans even work directly with Heath Evans? Is this residual discontent for Daboll not incorporating Evans into whatever gameplanning he may have done with the Patriots? Is this another attempt by an ex-player to sabotage/demoralize his former team? It's not like we've never seen that before.
These are all questions that occur to me. -
I hope to be proven wrong, but I think Daboll will be an unmitigated disaster. He might just have us clamoring for GASP Henning by midseason.

Heath Evans?
Really?
Are you sure it wasn't Dale Evans? -

I think the most important question one should ask himself when pondering the Evans statement is "What did YOU personally learn in the past 5 years?" The dude probably started coaching as an unpaid intern charting tendancies from film. Why stop at opinions from 5 years ago? Let's get the opinion of the guy that smoked a doobie with him in high school....

-Daboll remained the same guy he was 5 seasons ago
-Lavicka dredged him up and plastered it on front street as if "thus sayeth" before Daboll has done a single thing in Miami.
AFAIK all he has done in Miami is signed a Contract and gave a presser, why the long knives?GMJohnson likes this. -
The fact is this moves smells a lot like status qou...some of the knocks on this guy made it sound like you were reading about our offense last season.
This is supposed to be the cure all for the offense .......replace Dan Henning
Of course they're gonna be all over this guy.....and he better kick *** or him and Tony will both be gone by mid seasonOphinerated likes this. -
Daboll IS likely to produce the same results IF the same personnel are all he has to work with, recall we at least will have one new Running Back, maybe a new Qb, better production out of the #2 Te, better Oline play as well.
To me, it is the same fallacy that Lavicka is making to think that things and people remain static, that is simply not so.Garryowen likes this. -
They worked together 5 years ago. You can't think of anyone else that may know him better?
Then again, maybe Belichick's an idiot for keeping a moron like Daboll on his staff for 6 years.GMJohnson likes this. -
You can thank the Big Tuna for the media feeding frenzy that is going on..... the Freemasons could only wish they had as many mysterious secrets as the Trifecta, For 3 three years we had no idea who was responsible for what on this team. The media will be all over Sparano and the new OC this year...every step -

BTW, while we're bashing Daboll on the strength of a CAREER BACKUP FB and ST player's opinion, keep in mind that Pennington, A QB, had nothing but positives to say. Bernie Kosar, another QB who has observed Daboll extensively, also came away impressed:
"I know I've gotten a bit of a reputation for disliking and criticizing the way some offensive coaches have been doing their jobs lately, but I can honestly tell you Brian Daboll is not among those guys I would criticize too much," ..."Brian is a guy who knows the game as well as anyone. You can sit down with him, as I have, and talk about offensive football and strategy and come away pretty impressed with his ideas and his approach ... Brian's work with Colt McCoy was one of the reasons he played better and better as a rookie."
So as much as I'd love to mark us down for 3-13 based on Heath Evans' opinion, common sense dictates that I wait a little while longer, like until November, before I begin to pass judgment. -
If we can get better players and draft smarter it won't matter much who our OC is. I think every one of our coaches, from Sparano on down, is only as good as the players we draft and bring in. I never saw an OC drop back to throw the ball or run it. Give Daboll a chance.
