I watched your game against Houston last week; not because I'm an amateur scouting nerd but because I had them in my survivor pool. It seemed like the Phins played them tough with the exception of that 5 minute span in the 4th quarter where it all went to hell thanks to Tannehill. But he was my favorite quarterback last week because 1) He kept me alive in my pool and 2) Carson Palmer didn't exactly set the world on fire against San Diego.
You guys have owned us for years now but that's no reason to pick against us because players come and go and so do coaches. Unfortunately for us, we suck yet again and so the pattern will probably hold up.
I see this game as a field position battle. Our D looks vastly improved over last year but our offensive coordinator (Greg Knapp) is an incompetent boob who seems to believe that Darren McFadden is the only player we should get the ball to but at the same time it appears he wants to get him killed.
Your D vs. our O is a huge win for you. We run the exact same offense as Houston but a less talented, less efficient, less well called version coupled with the inability to make adjustments during the game.
Our D vs. your O. That's a win for us but not as big as your D vs. our O. Houston's defense created a lot of turnovers in your end of the field, which allowed them to score points. Our D won't do the same. They'll be competent but Tannehill will have a better day than he did against Houston.
I think if your offense can manage to put up 14-16 points it'll be enough to win the game.
One more thing, our special teams are horrible. Our coverage units looked bad in preseason and mediocre Monday night. So you win that battle too.
For us to win we'll have to get turnovers in your end and convert them into points. If not, this should be relatively easy game for Miami.

I think we have a few advantages, you guys are banged up in the secondary and at WR which will help us, not to mention you are coming cross country for a HOT 1pm start after a late *** Monday night game...
if someone put a gun to my head and told me to make a prediction, i'd take the Dolphins... I just feel like we'll be able to bottle up the run game, and contain the current WRs you have out there... it'll be a low scoring affair I'd think like you said, but i do think we can eek it out...
McFadden is obviously a game changer, but our front 7 can be pretty good at containing the run and did pretty well last week against another good rushing attack... if we can limit turnovers i think we can take it, if we lose the turnover battle by more than 1 then we're screed...

I'm picking the Dolphins because of the short week/west-to-east travel. That, and Carson Palmer looks done to me. I said that last year. It just doesn't look like the guy can play anymore.

I don't think the Raiders are a bad team. They're front 7 looks very good and they have a few play-makers on offense.
That said, I like our chances this week with the Raiders being a bit banged up and having to come play in Miami in the heat. -
McFadden looks like he's getting faster every time I seebhim play.
But I don't trust Carson Palmer to do anything right at this point. That SD game showed it all. Drives you guys right down the field before half time and in the redzone practically hands the int to atari bigby. he didn't catch it, but it was a gimme.
I see this being a tight game until one of the qbs screws it. Unfortunatefuly for the raiders I think tannehills the safer bet -

I consider it a coin flip. Carson still has some talent but it rarely shows these days. -
Carson Palmer does not have too many people he can throw to. If a team can stop your RB McFadden the game is basically over. I watched the SD game and I was honestly amazed. I had heard Oakland was the pick to win the AFC West. Whoever made that choice had to be on drugs. Oakland will do good if they finish 3rd in the AFC West. SD and Denver showed they are good football teams. All Oakland showed me is Carson Palmer has no weapons, McFadden IS a good RB and you D, as usual, is mediocre to pretty bad in pass defense. Sorry, thats the way I saw it.

Palmer did not want to even go to Oakland and bragged he would just retire. After being advised to go and collect all his guaranteed money he did so. Nothing was ever in writing he actually had to play the game of football though once he got there. Do not blame Palmer one bit. You traded for me to play in this cesspool, fine, pay me and now leave me alone or cut me, then still pay me because I am not soing shinolla here. Its pretty obvious.

We gave up 2. 6 run average against the texans..
We ran the ball at about 4.5 against the texans.
Derek Hagen was their top receiver..
I felt sorry for Mccfadden, it reminded me of how Dave wannstadt used to get away with child abuse on Dion Lewis.
Your Dline is big and Tall, not good for passing lanes.
I think we have a capable set of payers on offense that can score some,the emergence of Javorski lane should continue, dude could be something very interesting moving forward, especially if he dedicates his body to the craft..So J Lane, Reggie, Fasano, Bess, Thomas, Hart can get it done.
Everything can become even if our rookie Qb doesn't play better than last week.
That dude Myers your tight end will be a good player. -
Oakland is making one of the longest road trips in the league, on a very short week, and playing at 1pm Eastern. That alone puts them in a hole to start with. Add to that the fact that Miami's strength is run defense, and Oalkand's only dangerous offensive weapon is Mcfadden, and it leads me to believe that the Fins D shuts them down. Palmer has played below average two years in a row against Miami (one with the Bengals), and the Raiders recievers dont scare anyone.
Can Tannehill team with Bess and Hartline to move the ball against a beat up Oakland secondary? As a Fin fan, I certainly hope so. If the team doesnt self destruct again, I think that Miami should be favored in a battle of below average teams. -
Whichever quarterback doesn't piss the game away will win. Carson Palmer looks washed up and Tannehill showed last week that he doesn't belong on a football field right now so who knows. I expect them both to be awful in this game.

Removing the avoidable batted / tipped passing from last week by itself would make beyond a universe of difference in comparison.
I liked our D for the most part. Run D looks very good aside from a few outsides and sweeps which had some shake ups.....I see this as a W..... 100% so if T-hills release and heat-seeking-lock-on-missle eyes get worked on a bit. -

I didn't just predict defeat last weak, I predicted a trouncing...so this week as I'm predicting a Dolphin victory, I hope you don't think of me as just a homer.
I think people are underestimating the 1pm home heat advantage with the Raiders coming cross country in those black uniforms. I guess the biggest test of how much I believe it is, would I bet money on it, and yes I think I would. -
Speaking of that, did you guys keep your same defensive coordinator from last year or did Philbin fire everyone and start with an entirely new coaching staff.

What's the story with that situation though? It looks like Nolan could have stayed but chose not to. Is that because Philbin was going to bring in someone new anyway? And where did the new DC come from? Was he already with the team or did Philbin bring him in from somewhere else? Your D was 6th in points allowed last season which is pretty damn good. I have to wonder why everything wasn't done to keep Nolan.
I'm asking all this because there's a comparable situation in Oakland, except it's with the offense. -
Agreed on Palmer. The Raiders are one of the few teams in the league as bad as we are imo.
Besides the travel and heat, the one thing that I think really helps Miami is your secondary. We dont have great wr's but Bess and Hartline are competent and can run routes. While I suspect Seymour and Lamarr Houston will get some pressure I think Tannehill will have a little more time in the pocket and a little looser coverage in the secondary then he did vs Houston who imo is one of the top 2-3 defenses in the league (not exactly the easiest team to start a career against).
Kevin Coyle was the secondary coach in Cincy for a while. Actually Palmer may have an idea or two about what Coyle is all about and will try and do and if he cares enough he may even share it with his teammates and coaching staff lol. I dont think Coyle and Philbin had any kind of previous experience coaching with or against each other on any level, certainly none that I am aware of. Coyle was brought in because of the coaching change and because we are moving to more 4-3 fronts this year as opposed to the hybrid 3-4 we played last year. Someone can correct me if I am wrong but Im pretty sure Philbin simply wanted his own guy. Coyle was a good choice as anyone who can turn so of those underachieving Bengal DB's in to players cant be half bad :lol:
In your case, you guys just need better players. It may pay to win the Bad For Barkley Bowl. You havent had a franchise QB since Gannon left...which doesnt seem half bad when you consider that we havent had one since Marino left. Believe it or not, the guy still has some gas in the tank. If you look at his stats from last year they're really misleading. He threw 6 picks in the first two games but he'd only been on the team for 10 days at that point. A lot of his mistakes came from being suddenly thrown onto the field with no camp. It was nuts. The fact that he was able to help keep us in the playoff hunt until the final quarter of the final game is proof that he still has something left. It was our D that lost us everything last year. It was literally the worst defense the Raiders had ever fielded.
But Palmer's problem this year is the system. Our offensive coordinator is a moron and rather than adjust the system to fit his player's skills, he's trying to adjust the players to the system. Palmer is a drop back pocket passer who can throw the ball down field but Knapp wants to make him a mobile, rollout type that makes short, accurate throws, So if Palmer doesn't look so great there's a significant element of round hole-square peg going on.
The same with McFadden. When we ran the ZBS in his rookie and 2nd season, the guy looked like a bust. But when Hue Jackson took over the offense he asked DMC what plays he thought would help him be successful and then he implemented those plays. All of a sudden McFadden looked like one of the best players in the league. Now we're back to the ZBS and McFadden looks like a tackling dummy.
Receivers - same. Speedy guys that were drafted for their skills to get downfield are now being made to run shorter, more precise routes.
I'll be surprised if we put up more than 13 points on Sunday. -

Of course everything is stacked in our favor so I'm completely confident that we'll somehow lose due to some extremely obscure flaws.
Especially after you guys looking completely awful on national tv while Berman, looking like a squid in stretchpants, mocks you're team for stupid penalties.

I think it will be a fairly close game, controlled by the defenses on both sides. I don't see the Dolphins winning more then 5 or 6 games this year, but I think this is one game they should be able to put in the win column. The Raiders don't have a history of playing well after traveling east and the fact they played on Monday night, certainly doesn't help their cause.
The loss of key receivers for the Raiders also is detrimental to them, because the Dolphins secondary is the weakness of the defense. Going against inexperienced receivers from the Raiders should certainly benefit the secondary of the Dolphins.
I think the Dolphins will win by a score of 17-14. -
Bartell and Ford being out hurts bad. We all know too well about Mr. Hagan and his...abilities. Mcfadden is a beast and will get some good runs in but for the most part I think Misi, Burnett, and Dansby can keep him in check. Misi had a really good game last week and performed better than pretty much everyone here thought he would.
Hoping Tanny works on his eyes and Sherman gets him out of the pocket every once in awhile to avoid becoming so one dimensional. If this happens I think we can be pretty successful in this game. Reggie Bush looked great last week and would of racked up a ton more yards if we didn't have to throw so much in the second half from being behind. Going out on a limb and saying we win by 10. -
