Our ST have been horrid for two years now, and the firing of Coach Bom
was long, LONG overdue.

It's clear BP is out of the loop now, and, Tony is his own man. I like
what Tony did. Lets see how the season goes now. We've started our third straight season bent over the power curve now....This HAS to stop.

Lets take this short halt at .500, and re ****, and, get after it. We're not out of contention, but we've made the road to the post season as bumpy as we can, yet again.

 

With a little more solid play out of ST, and the defense being a bit more consistent, and the idea of us turning back into a running offense gives me a lot of hope.

We are in a better position now (2-2) than we were the last couple of seasons. We're only 1 game out....Let's hope we come out of the bi-week healthy and ready for the Pack

 

Right. We're perfectl capable of winning on the road. We've
shown that, and, I don't think it's out of the realm.

Our ST has killed us so many times it's unreal, and
maybe now it will stabailize a bit. I'm not looking for superior. I'm looking for average.

we'll see next game how it goes. obviously, we go no where w/o a franchise QB, if Henne works out its the best of all options. just can't go until game nine before he gets it right. we have to stay in the race to get to post season play. Pennington has to be on alert @ this point to the possibility of starting. whatever wins is fine with me.

personally, I'd give Pennington the start.
throw him to the wolves & see if the offense significantly improves under his leadership.
for me, game four was the crucible & its time to make changes while we're still afloat.
if nothing comes of it, bench him & finish out your season schooling Henne or Thigpen.

i always hate strongly disaggreeing with a poster that i consider a friend. lol. you seem to be pretty adament about giving up on Henne. I have to say that i'm glad you're not in our front office. I think there's a long list of great QB's through out history that you would have gave up on. And the fact is that Henne is off to a better start than a lot of great QB's that had horrific starts. give the man a chance!

I'm glad Henne showed some confidence in his ability, a NFL Qb has to be almost arrogant in their belief in their ability to play the game.

 

I keep hearing the argument that Penny can make us win now. Why do you guys think that he comes in instantly we're better. Do you all forget how average to below average he was before he got hurt last year? Do you really think he'll come in and play any better, or suddenly his presence in the huddle makes the defense tackle, or the special teams block?

2) obviously, I understand Pennington's warranty is coming to an end & he is not the future of the franchise, however, he may still have another good year or two left to play. and he may be our best chance to win games in 2010. more than one older QB have taken their teams to a SuperBowl in recent history.

3) I am hopeful for Henne but refuse to anoint him the Franchise QB or put his personal (possible) developmental interest above the team winning in 2010. I do not ascribe to the Cult of the of the Second-Coming of Marino.

Here is why, ST will find it's level, it may be a below avg level but it will find it.

The offense will return to being more running based, meaning the Qb will have under 30 passing attempts, who use all 30 more efficiently Henne, or Pennington?

pennington was terrible in limited time last year, if your confident the ST unit will find its level, why cant henne do the same?

 

People seem so confident that the ST can improve, and the running game can improve, but why not Henne? Heck, he's shown to be better than those 2 phases right now anyway.

 

Because ST is the kindergarten of pro football, you do not need the skills to play ST that you need to play Qb.

His picks in the Pats game were bad, yes. However, even Marshall says the last one was his own fault. However, Henne didn't get caught flat-footed on the KR, or allow Chung to blow by him on the FG block and punt block. Henne also didn't call wildcat on 3rd and 6 while he was in a nice groove.

Given the offensive line? We have 3 new interior starters (4 if you count ginger)...one with a temper problem, one journeyman center, and a rookie RG.

Yeah he has running backs...but what good are they when we don't RUN THE BALL IN SITUATIONS THAT WOULD MAKE SENSE...we flat out aren't using them as we have in the past

And how can you tell if a QB is going to be the face of a franchise if you don't let him play?
17 starts..not 21, and his numbers are on par with other franchise QB's through that same number.

Because that is perception, not the reality ATVZ, the ST was poor in 08, in 09 they were ranked #10 in the NFL.

In 4 games this yr however, we are down to #31, with only the saving presence of the Chargers keeping us from hitting rock bottom.

Funny thing is, SD Special Teams unit was Top 5 for yrs.

Our offense in our 2 losses was tremendous! Henne had back to back 300 yard passing games. The offense is not why we lost those games, it was special teams and defense. think about it.

 

Everybody wants to win, but some opinions on how to do it are more logical than others. It makes little sense to replace a player that you believe should be playing better (Henne) with a player who performed worse the last time he was the starter (CP).

 

Pennington is prone to injury. how is he our best chance to win? We brought him in this year for his mind, not his body. Why do you think we put thigpen in at the end of the pats game instead of pennington? Our best chance to win this year is Henne. you can't swap qb's based on emotion. you'll have the same consequences of a woman breaking up with her husband and going back and forth with other men while children are involved. lmao.
