    Yea its plausible....unlikely but plausible

I was meerly comparing the 97.4 QB posting of Pennington to the 75.2 posting of Henne. We could discuss.....even argue that circumstances dictated. I'm not buying it though. Pennington out played Henne...that is a given. Trying to say one year over another and who played and who didn't is all smoke and mirror's in my opinion. Fact is we were a better team with Pennington in 2008. 11-5 doesn't lie. Henne played well and will be a good QB. How good remains to be seen. He could go the Manning route and I mean Eli not his star brother. Although that isn't ruled out either. Or Henne can go the Jamarcus Russell route. Remains to be seen. What ever happens I just want to win and I'm 30 years tired of saying oh this guy got hurt or that guy screwed us.

    The time is now.....enough excuses!!!!!

We were a better team last year because of our defense. We actually scored 15 MORE points this year than last but our defense gave up a whopping 73 points more than last year.

In 2009, before the injury, Penny's rating was 76. I believe Henne would have become our starter, even without the injury. Comparing him to Russell is not fair. Henne showed more in one game than Russell has since he was drafted.

We were a better team this past year than in 08 because of who we played. Our schedule was rated the tuffest going into 09, and was the tuffest after 09.

We pretty much held our own against the best the NFL had to offer. Who knows what may have happened if we were healthier, and a few more bounces our way.

I am very proud of our team and what it is becoming. Can't wait for THIS YEAR!

Pennington will probably stick with the team because:
    1) he believes he can beat Henne in an open competition
    2) if he doesn't win the start, his influence continues as a mentor & coach, not just a backup QB
    3) Pennington was originally drafted by Parcells, understands the system of coaching & expectations. he is already familiar with our offense & its the players
    4) Chad the Greater is a success & known quantity in Miami. he's has been treated well & is comfortable with the team, living in SouthFlorida.
    5) for all of the reasons sited plus one more, the team is solidly progressing & will be a contender. given the opportunity to compete , I 'm sure he'll stay.

Based on this thread, Penny would be able to go to Wash, Buff, or Oak to learn a new system, with a new team, and go nowhere.

    He is smarter than that.

Honestly, everyone is 'on the hot seat' due to our lack of success this year. Henne would really have to slide back a few notches during the offseason to not be the given the spot next season. Thigpen is interesting because he showed some ability when he had the chance in KC. Penny won't be back unless he's pretty much guaranteed the starting spot and the injury isn't an issue. We'll know where he stands come March 1. I just don't see them not wanting, really badly, for Henne to be the guy, so there would have to be some catastrophic evidence to unseat him...that doesn't usually happen, particularly in the offseason...

So it's in March that we find out who is gone from the team? Or does it go on longer? I can never keep up with all that.

That would make for a great movie, but this is reality:

We don't need Pennington the way a team like Buffalo, Oakland, or Washington will need Pennington after they draft a QB, therefore those teams will offer more money and a starting job. I don't care how good of a guy he is and how loyal you think he is to Miami. No one in their right mind would pass that opportunity up especially at his age. Pennington sits on the bench this year and his career as a starting QB is probably over for good.

I am assuming that the dates will be about the same as in every other year. It could be Feb 28th or the 1st of March or somewhere around there. FA will begin as normal. This is the last year of the CBA, not the end of the CBA as it is...We'll know shortly what the actual dates of things are, but I'm assuming the NFL year will begin the same as in the past...

That's not a very bold guarantee pat white sucks I was pissed when we drafted him I never thought he would be sucesful in the wildcat unless he was a full time starter because you know when he comes in the game it is a run so all they have to do is stack the line IMO that will be the biggest waste of a draft pick even over ginn and Jason Allen

I wouldnt' call Ginn and Jason Allen wasted picks, just reaches. Jason Allen is at least a very good ST player and a pretty good backup. Pat White might be a complete waste of a pick if he can't be moved to another position.

Another reason to go for proven superstar players like Elvis Dumervil. Healthy, young, dangerous pass rushers like Elvis Dumervil.

I'd have to visit each game to see if that really is the case. Just because we gave up 73 more doesn't mean anything. All you got to do is win by 1. 73 divided by 16 games is only 4 points. You would have to analyze every game to really determine if it was the D. Point I am making is if offensively we only put up 10 points but someone hung 35 on us that doesn't necessarily mean the defense sucked it was a combination of both. ??? how many pics etc. It's just not that simple. Scoring 15 more then last year don't mean squat either....that's less then 1 point a game.......probably not gonna matter in the big picture.

It would be interesting to figure out though.

I'm too tired though and just ecstatic the Jesters are going home....especially that pompous arrogant coach thy have.

Understood. My only point was that since Henne has far exceeded Russell, the "bottom of the barrel" should be a little higher.

I think it's silly to think that a QB competition is necessary to motivate Henne. Does Peyton Manning or Tom Brady need a QB competition to be pushed to be better. No, they push themselves. I think Henne is the type of player who doesn't need extra motivation to work hard.

If your QB needs to be pushed then you are already in trouble.

This is a "hey kid you haven't earn crap" motivational tool. Sporano knows he has some improvment to do. This FO loves this kid, they take him on all the WR workouts, and he throws to all the free agent workouts too....He is the guy unless Henne himself gives them a reason to 86 him...He got wild w/ the picks in the B-Low game and at the end, and sometimes holds onto the ball to long, but that will come....he is only 24 and fresh off his first real time in the NFL....

If Henne isn't the starter next year, and we haven't A) somehow landed a big time QB in FA/trades, or B) he had a major injury, then I'll eat my own hat

Yeah, it still doesn't make sense to me that they would say "Henne is our starter for 2010" and then, after he has a decent showing turn around and say "Henne not guaranteed to start in 2010."

Obviously he is the starter now and going forward. He had a rag-tag group of WR's and single-handedly brought us back in couple ball games, not to mention was MONEY in that first Jets game.

Sure he made some mistakes, which was to be expected, but his future looks bright. Just get him some damn help.

Henne will compete w/Pennington & Thigpen for the start
Pennington returns & the best QB is the starter

I think Sparano has to say that. Henne is still young. He's not a seasoned vet. He still needs to be properly groomed, IMO. I think competition can motivate any player, vets alike. I really like Henne. I think he showed a lot of promise. He's the type of QB we've all wanted here for years now. Again, I think he showed some real potential. With that said; I think we should also give Thigpen a chance to compete with guys other than our third stringers. I think he should have a real chance to compete as well. I just think, if given the right opportunity, he good be a really good QB. He just seems to have that "something" that makes good QBs. Remember when he almost put up 400yds on us......uggh!

Henne's looked real good, but he's young and still needs to earn his keep, IMO. For the first time in a long time, I think we have a pretty good situation at the QB position. If nothing else, we'll have some real quality depth at the position., but I think Sparano is just saying here what he has to at this point.
