We think Chad Henne can play just as well as can," Dolphins offensive coordinator Dan Henning said just minutes ago. "I'll tell you that right now. I think when he gets his opportunity he will play well. Every time we've given him an opportunity, he has played well. We also like Chad Pennington. So I think the quarterback situation here as it stands right now is better than it was Feb. 1st. I'll tell you that right now."

I would hope he is just as good at matt Ryan because Flacco sucks. He makes horrible decisions. i hope Henne becomes the next great Miami Dolphins QB.

Flacco sucks? Based on what? His first 5 games in the NFL? Please, he's a rookie and will have his growing pains. Remember, players like Matt Ryan, Ben Roethlisberger, Dan Marino...those guys are the exception. Rarely does a QB come in on his rookie year and light things up.

As for Chad Henne, I love the man and I'm not afraid to say it. I can't wait for him to get his chance because I think he's going to be a solid QB in this league. And I also think he's just as good as Matt Ryan.

In Flacco's defense, his offensive line is Horible. Another thing is, in the games i have seen (against Browns, Steelers, Colts), his receivers are not getting the separation needed. Add the two factors and it easily can be drawn up as "Flacco sucks," but when a rookie qb is faced w/ this, i dont see many having different results.

Oh, and most of Flacco's ints are when he is pressured and running towards the outside of the pocket... not like he has all day to make bad decisions in a comfy pocket.

I think someone does not remember that the Ravens said in preseason that Flacco would not start, than Smith got sick and Boller is well, Boller (Hurt also).

Flacco was thrown into this while not ready, much like Beck was for us.

You sure are judging Matt Ryan based on his first five games.

Actually Flacco has it worse than Beck did... Beck had a few games watching Trent Green before he got thrown in the fire.

I expect Henne will be much more polished than either Ryan or Flacco in his first start, and more likely end up being better over-all than either. Pennington may not have a deep ball, but there really isn't a much better tutor for a rookie QB out there.

no I'm not. He's off to a good start and that's very promising IMO. All I said was that it's unusual to see that happen. And that I'm hoping Henne can get off to a good start too.

Matt Ryan absolutely has been exceeding my expectations. Having Michael Turner doesn't hurt either btw.

As you have alluded to Pennington may not have a cannon arm but he can teach henne what years of experience have taught him that can't come along with a rookie QB in the NFL. Namely his game management; which is criticized and favored by about the same amount of people. I am in favor of his game management.

Henne has the arm.

Thus, suffering completely fills the human soul and conscious mind, no matter whether the suffering great or little. Therefore, the "size" of human suffering is absolutely relative." - Viktor Frankl

Nor does a coaching staff that uses Ryan to his strengths.

I believe Henning on this one. Not just because im a michigan fan too. I've seen Henne play the last 4 years or so, his arm is strong, he makes good decisions, throws accurately, and he always had command of that michigan offense and was their leader. Now he's here, he's performed well in preseason, and in action against Arizona. now bring in pennington, the NFL's most accurate passer, and a great game manager, and a great leader. Pennington here, is perfect to Henne to learn behind. There's no doubt in my mind that ones Henne gets the chance, he's going to prove to us all that the QB search in Miami is over.

I really think henning should have just kept his mouth shut on this one. No need to even state something like this. Fact of the matter is, Ryan's playing in real games, Henne has not except some minutes against AZ.

What did Wannstedt say? What can Trent Green do that Jay Fielder cannot? In no way am I even advocating Henne is fiedler or anything, just sometimes it's better not to say anything.

Flacco is going to be a good QB. I might be biased but so what?

Ryan is no doubt a franchise QB in my opinion. Henne has just shown brilliance in preseason and a bit in regular season but his body of work is too small to judge. If Henne ca show franchise QB ability, we just picked up a franchise LT and QB in one draft people. That's mind blowing. I hope Henning is right.

I'm not high on Flacco though. I think he'll be pretty average as a QB. Just my thoughts after watching him a little bit.

Interesting. I have the complete opposite opinion. I think very highly of him but it will take some time for him to develop IMO. He's very mature though for a Quarterback and has a big arm. He makes questionable decisions but that will get better over time. What I like about him is that he can extend the play like we saw on Monday Night against Pittsburgh a few weeks ago.

We can only hope Henne is our guy but I really like what I've seen out of him.
He does have one hell of a teacher in Penningtion, I'm sure he'll be ready when the time comes.

And you also don't have nearly enough of a sample to say Matt Ryan is the real deal yet. He may have looked good so far, but he will have some bumps in the road and lets see how he reacts to those when they come, and they will.

It's way too early to made a determination on this.

Ryan is certainly surpassing my expectations of him thus far, but he could regress. And we simply haven't seen enough of Henne to make a determination of any kind (though I did like what he did in cleanup duty against the Cardinals)

No mercy for posters who are:
-completely one-sided
-incapable of adjusting & reforming their original opinions on a player/coach
-incapable of complimenting a player/coach they don't like or criticizing a player/coach they do like
-believe that what they think they see is beyond reproach
-incapable of exchanging opposing thoughts & ideas to arrive at a new & more refined point of view

You know who you are...

Alen, remember they said the same thing about Carr & Boller. Bad decision making that would get better over time. Now Flacco could be that guy who does get better. What do you see in him that is missing with the other guys ?

Not sure about Boller but the difference between Carr and Flacco IMO is that Flacco doesn't hold on to the ball as long as Carr did. Flacco knows to get rid of the ball and when he does hold on to the ball, he is able to buy time with his feet to make a play downfield unlike Carr. Not to mention that Carr basically got killed behind that offensive line (was sacked 19 times in his first three games where Flacco has been sacked 6 times). My worries with Flacco is that he may not protect the ball too well. I've seen him stripped several times because he holds it in one hand. Also, Ravens HC Harbaugh named him the starter for the remainder of the season and I'm not sure if that was the right move just yet. The offensive line is battling injuries and they just lost one of their linemen. If Flacco takes enough beating, he could end up like Carr or Beck for that matter and may lose his confidence. If Troy Smith was healthy, which I believe he may be right now, he should be in there to take a beating instead of Flacco. JMO.

I don't think questionable decisions get better over time. Personally i believe you either have it or you don't. Mentally, if you can't make the right choice in a split second time frame you never will. I don't think it's something you can teach. I think you can teach to read a defense better but to make the right read under pressure quickly is not something a person can learn. I think Ryan and Henne ticks the boxes but Flacco doesn't.

I agree.

I think knowing what decisions to make does improve, though. QBs are always going to have questionable decisions from time to time. It's making the right decisions more often

I agree with you. To just throw Flacco in there, when Cam wouldn't do that with Beck last year is quite curious. Lesson learned ? Of course that could be Harbaugh's call to do that and Cam may not agree. We'll never know.
