I was looking at Silverphin's Current Roster thread, and I started wondering how many players are still on the team from last year. So I copied his list and deleted the guys who weren't on the roster last season. Here it is... Quarterback: 1 John Beck Tackles: 2 Vernon Carey 3 Julius Wilson Guards: nobody left from 2007 Center: 4 Samson Satele Tight End: 5 David Martin 6 Justin Peelle 7 Aaron Halterman Running Back: 8 Ronnie Brown 9 Ricky Williams 10 Patrick Cobbs Fullback: 11 Reagan Mauia Wide Receiver: 12 Ted Ginn 13 Derek Hagan 14 Greg Camarillo Defensive Line: 15 Vonnie Holliday 16 Rod Wright 17 Paul Soliai 18 Matt Roth Linebacker: 19 Jason Taylor 20 Joey Porter 21 Channing Crowder 22 Ed Miles 23 Quentin Moses 24 Kelvin Smith 25 Rob Ninkovich Cornerback: 26 Will Allen 27 Michael Lehan 28 Andre Goodman 29 Travis Daniels Safety: 30 Jason Allen 31 Yeremiah Bell 32 Renaldo Hill 33 Courtney Bryan Kicker: 34 Jay Feely Punter: 35 Brandon Fields Long Snapper: 36 John Denney Only 36 players left from last year's 53-man roster. 53 - 36 = 17 players gone (with still more who may be cut) Here's who is gone: Trent Green Cleo Lemon Lorenzo Booker Travares Tillman Jesse Chatman Abraham Wright Zach Thomas Derrick Pope Donnie Spragan Steve Fifita Rex Hadnot L.J. Shelton Dan Stevenson Chris Liwienski Anthony Alabi Chris Chambers Marty Booker Keith Traylor Chase Page Tuff Harris Cameron Worrell ? Did I forget anybody?
I would hold on to this list and compare it again after training camp. I would be willing to bet that even more names are gone...
Aaron Halterman, Patrick Cobbs, Kelvin Smith, Rob Ninkovich, & Courtney Bryan are all "bubble" at best, too. Talk about "re-shaping" a roster, but obviously for the better with this group.
Iam gonna miss LOBOOK, i love me some parcells but iam still confused as hell on that one, talented football players fit any system and that kid is gonna be a player in this league, i hope our boy murphy is a baller.
Getting rid of LoBook should speak volumes about the kind of offense we're going to run, as well as the questionable truthfulness of Sparano's "make the scheme fit the players" comment.
i love the new scheme we wanna run but i also think that lobook can fit into that scheme, i believe dave megget was the first third down back ever, lobook can line up anywhere on the field, receiver, slot, screens,draws.etc. I dont think we know the whole story on that one.
Agreed. And I would add these guys to the list of players on the bubble: Julius Wilson, David Martin, Justin Peelle, Paul Soliai, and Matt Roth. That means 10 more guys could be gone by the time we get down to 53 leaving only 26 players from last year's team. Wow. Half the roster could be new. BTW, how about John Denney? This guy survives new regime after new regime. Is long snapper the postion with the greatest job security or what?
You bet. Look how long Ed Perry lasted for us. And that long snapper on the Redskins who got a famous low rating on Madden. Hes been in the league for a long time.
When you go 1-15 and have such a huge turnover in coaching and FO management, this is exactly what this team needed, a serious kick in the pants. Perform or play elsewhere, simple and beautiful.
