Not just a wild idea, Wildcat may be here to stay Decent read about it and how to attempt to defend against it.
Damn! I missed it. The page is gone now. Well the link provided anyway. I'll have to go searching for it now. Edit: Hmm... it seems that nfl.com is having issues. All 3 current top articles go to page not found. Guess I just have to wait it out for a bit.
Good Read. It "seems" rather easy to defend but boy teams sure have a hard time with it sometimes. I just love how many "options" we have out of this formation.
Not Just a wild Idea, Wildcat may be here to Stay with Bill Cowher Not just a wild idea, Wildcat may be here to stay I hear analysts on television refer to the Wildcat formation as a gimmick. Webster's dictionary defines a gimmick as "a trick." By that definition, the Wildcat is not a gimmick; coaches I spoke to about it haven't been tricked by it, but the formation does concern them. Some observers call the Wildcat a trend, but Webster's defines a trend as "veering in a new direction." Former NFL quarterback Billy Kilmer recently told Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino that he ran it in the 1950s. So it's not really a trend, either. This article was done by Pat Kirwan, with Bill Cohwer breaking it down. Very good read.
It appears as though Bill Cowher didn't give much thought to defensing the formation because his defense sucks! The disrupt the mesh point was the worst example of what one could do that I have ever seen.
