I think every person here, except a troll, is an actual fan of the Dolphins. This is something we all have in common. A lot of us have differing opinions as to what needs to happen in order for the Dolphins to once again be a contender. However, we are all hoping to see a better team.
Saying that, I think another thing we all have in common is the ability to pick out the trolls. Now, I'm as guilty as the next guy in regards to losing my cool and getting PO'd about something I disagree with. However, I think this site would be much better if we all realized that everyone here, sans the trolls, really want to see a better team. And since that's a fact, we all need to do a better job of policing ourselves. Once thing I have a hard time doing is posting without coming off as snide. In all honesty if you could hear my voice instead of reading my words I don't think you'd believe I meant it to be rude. (Yes, sometimes I will post with the intent of being snide). That's the problem with the internet. There's no facial or voice clues to know if someone is sincere or not.
However, sometimes these trolls come in and agree with one or more people. A troll might agree with FinD and disagree with Fin-O. It seems that this automatically makes a team of FinD and the troll. (Remember, I'm using examples here) Should this really be the case? A troll is a troll and I think we all should work together in eliminating these trolls.
In short, as true fans and members of this site I think it would behoove us to work together in calling out and removing trolls. No matter the differing of opinions about the Dolphins, I don't think anyone likes a troll.

Yeah, I get what you mean. However, if they aren't trolling, and even if their idea(s) are irrational it doesn't mean they need to be attacked. And again, I'm just as guilty as anybody in regards to losing my cool when I read crazy stuff. I just think laughing about it rather than arguing about those things would be for the best.
And even you and Fin-O and me and Rocky can agree that trolls have no benefit to the site. Right?Last edited: Nov 17, 2017 -
Dan, I reported the guy who told you to leave the site a few days back....that's what prompted my thread about fighting over whatever just to piss people off. Those types of folks are always going to be around and it's just a matter of us self-policing the site to help Boik do his job. We should all be reporting when someone crosses the line- even if it's one of us crossing it.
The thing I miss most is debating football here- we used to have some great arguments over Tannehill, Henne, our coaching staff, the fist pump, etc. That hasn't happened lately though because all those posts get derailed with personal insults....before long it stops being a football conversation at all. As long-time members here that care about the site, we need to be better at taking the higher road, not lashing back and just hitting that report button.
It's always hard when our team is struggling, and I have a feeling that this isn't going to be a magical turnaround season (I'm still guessing 7-9 or 8-8 overall unless Cutler really clicks with our receivers). That means it will only get uglier in the weeks to come and we need to keep our cool for the good of everyone here.danmarino likes this. -
So Dan posts a topic about getting along with folks better and taking the high road, and you felt it was appropriate to insult Fin D? Weren't you just banned for that?
If you haven't noticed, Fin D has chilled out a lot. I know because him and I have gone many rounds in the past, but now we're civil. And you know what, I appreciate him and what he brings to the forum. So maybe if you stopped trying to get banned, you could see the point of this thread and learn a lesson or two from the guy you're attacking.ChrisKo, cuchulainn, Fin D and 2 others like this. -
I like the idea of ID'ing trolls, but how do I identify one? Just bad mouthing the team isn't very reliable.
I know most of my responses are to counter what I think is "silly" thinking from a thread or other poster. Some of the more prolific posters have at times posted stuff I agree with and at other times the same poster put up stuff where my disagreement had me raging mad.
I have decided the best real control I currently have of identifying trolls is by using their "likes" number as a % of their total posts. I "like" the stuff I think is good, informative (not just an opinion without a basis), or at least a little humorous. This affects the "likes" ratio to some extent. Unfortunately the "birds of a feather stick together" concept lets trolls "like other trolls", thus diluting the "likes" ratio to a very general indicator at best. Some of my favorite posters have a low "likes" ratio.
I mean, what method can we use that identifies a real troll from a grumpy old man? I am open to suggestions.danmarino likes this. -
I get being upset about the results of the team. It sucks.
But responding with "Fire Everyone, Everyone sucks!!!!!!!!!!" does nothing to engender conversation....which is the point of the board. This place isn't Youtube comments or comments at the end of an article online. Ranting and raving is pointless for here. Your pain at the team's failures is irrelevant and most importantly not unique. We all hurt when the team fails. Whoopie do.
Instead of just stopping at being upset by the results, examine the reasons for them and stop calling reasons "excuses".
In fact, that's pretty much the first major indicator a person is a troll...calling reasons "excuses".ChrisKo, KeyFin, danmarino and 1 other person like this. -

Fun story. My dad's 83 and brand new to Facebook. And he sees someone in his feed post on politics...I won't get into what since we can't discuss that there. The post really bothered him though so he replied, "It's idiots like you that ruin this country."
Now, that's completely out of character for my dad, he's the happy-go-lucky type. So we thought no big deal, it's just one post.
Only, I wasn't thinking about how Facebook's algorithm works at the time- the more you like or comment on a certain subject, the more it shows you that type of stuff. So the next day, he sees two more posts over the same thing, by the same person, and he left rude comments on them as well. Before you know it, half his feed is people that drive him nuts over politics- it's like FaceBook turned against him or something.
At first, it was funny as hell...we kept telling him not to respond, but he just couldn't help himself. He thought the stuff people were posting on his feed was certifiably insane. And since he's 83 and tech stupid, he thought people were sending those messages to him. The moral of this story- my dad is an old man and he's also the meanest troll I know on FaceBook...all in the matter of two or three weeks. -

If you would take your own advice, then you'd probably have a pretty good time here. But when you talk down to the posters, the moderators and everyone in-between for disagreeing with you, it's not difficult to see it as "overly hateful".
There's one moderator here and his name is Boik. And guess what? He didn't get obscene and give the finger to Walter....he did that towards the "GaseCanPlaybook" account. We all know that because it's the only time in recent memory that Boik has cussed and/or given the finger. If you're going to troll our boards with multiple accounts, you really need to keep up with those kinds of details.Last edited: Nov 18, 2017ChrisKo, Boik14, LI phinfan and 2 others like this. -

It wasn't, until the witch revealed his three troll accounts that have been bashing folks here for the past few months or so. The only question remaining is which of our longstanding members made the troll accounts?
It's funny, because each of those accounts were created right around the time a few folks here were temporarily banned for harassing others. And those troll accounts attacked darn near everyone on this site except for two specific people...the same two who were banned last month. Either that's a shocking coincidence or a certain person here has been posting on the Phins with no less than five accounts this month, getting arguments started over everything and anything.
It's not my place to say that person's username publicly because I do follow the rules of this forum, even when it's talking about a scumbag that's gone out of his way to ruin things for others here. But I'm pretty sure if you good folks put on your detective hats, you can follow the breadcrumbs and have a good time seeing the troll talk to himself in multiple threads. -
A troll is the guy who posted 600 times in two days that Miami is probably going to trade Landry to the Patriots for a 6th round pick.

For as long as the internet exists, trolls will exist. Nothing good ever comes from rounding people up and silencing them in an effort to improve the environment. We're better than that.
