If I were in that situation, I'd be extremely upset...

Highest GPA on a 5.0 scale? How's that even work? We had 4.0 at my school. Every where from middle school to college has had a 4.0 scale.

And I don't really think highest GPA should be valedictorian though in the case of this article I do think she should be.

As an example to my opinion, I will use myself. Entering my Senior year of HS, I was 11th in my class of about 300 (had slightly less than a 4.0, I mean like a 3.988 or something like that). Well I did post secondary all year so, I was not able to receive the weighted average that most seniors got from their "advanced" classes or even their AP classes. I ended up graduating like 14th or so. Had the valedictorian at my school done what I did, she would have ended up being like 6th in the final class rankings, but I would argue she was the best student still.

We use the 4.0 scale here too... Maybe lucky or someone would know, he's from Texas and they use the 5.0 scale.

AP classes are worth 6.0 (weighted) points in many schools, including my own. This is in a 4.0 scale too.

Bingo, AP classes count above 4.0.

Meanwhile, I slacked in high school--think 2.8 GPA--and got into college anyway.

She's not valedictorian because she only went through three years of high school instead of four. That's a bunch of bull.

You could get into a University with a 2.8 GPA... My guess is that you could get into a University with a 2.5 GPA, maybe a bit lower if you have a pretty decent ACT/SAT score.

My AP classes were only worth 5.0 on a 4.0. My post secondary classes only counted as 4.0 which was complete bull****.

I didn't know you could get in with that low of a GPA. My GPA is like 2.8 right now because of damn Chemistry and Geometry. It was 3.4 last year.

    Sweet, congratulations on your success.

That's my goal, get into a university. I really don't want to go to a community college. I don't think there's anything wrong with them, just feel like it will be a better success for myself getting into a university and hopefully working with business sports mgmt.

A couple universities in OH have open (or rolling) enrollment and it really isn't that hard to get into them.

Interesting. Do you by any chance know the name of them so I could look them up and get information?

I'm going to be a junior next year in HS so those openings may change in a couple years.

Akron for sure, and I am pretty sure Ohio State and Toledo do as well. It would not surprise me if Cincinnati or Ohio University were as well.

However, I would suggest not coming to Ohio for college unless you absolutely love the school or have a great scholarship. We are one of the worst states as far as affordable education goes.

yeah you just have to take credit recovery...like last year i failed the last semester of english..if i was at your school i'd probably have gotten held back..our school district is a joke though..haha this is from wikipedia..its true though

"In 2003, the district made national news when 17 days of classes were cut from the school year which allowed students to be out in May due to budget cuts to education in Oregon"
