When the Dolphins traded for receiver Tyreek Hill two years ago, he got a four-year, $120 million extension that was, and is, a three-year, $75 million deal. As noted earlier today, the contract hasn’t aged well. As it turns out, Hill has been aware of that. And there has been an effort to rectify it. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the effort to address Hill’s contract began after the 2023 season ended. That’s when Hill had 1,799 receiving yards, despite a late-season ankle injury that derailed what seemed to be a likely 2,000-yard campaign. The effort intensified after Eagles receiver A.J. Brown got his latest new contract. Brown got his prior contract when Hill got his current one, and Brown had three years left on his contract. Like Hill does. Hill, as a practical matter, has two years left. That final year, at $45 million in cash, surely won’t be paid. The time to get a new deal is now. He turned 30 on March 1. The market has gone up. The cap has gone up. It’s entirely possible (if not probable . . . if not likely) that Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson will have a new contract as soon as next week. If that happens, it will re-set the market — and it will give Hill a new target. Whether he’ll match or beat Jefferson’s deal remains to be seen. Regardless, expect him to try.
I wouldn't call it speculation. He's going to get paid too. He's the best WR in the NFL and Brown just got his.
Florio also hinted that people in the organization are starting to get sick of Mike McDaniel and his goofiness.
If he wins a playoff game, they won't care. If he loses another one in the first round, he's probably gone.
If they make the playoffs in all 3 of McD’s first three seasons and he’s fired I’ll eat my hat. In his first playoff game he didn’t have his starting QB. In his second playoff game he was fielding guys that were sitting on the couch the week prior. Not to mention playing the defending and future SB champs in -20 F in their home. Ignoring this context is the only thing I can think of as to why anyone would think McD’s job is on the line.
Florio is a ****stain. This is hilarious and 100% correct about him. https://www.outkick.com/sports/mike-florio-posts-bizarre-rant-begs-people-to-take-him-seriously
One of the smartest decisions Tua made was canceling his interview with Florio and Simms. They crapped on him all year and Tua left them at the alter.
“But starting today for the 20th time you too can buy my book for 99 cents this week only, and then a Father’s Day special where you can get both my books for 99 cents.” I don’t doubt he has some sources for people who wanna get some news out on purpose, he built the #1 football site in the country. But it doesn’t mean he knows much about the game. He copied and pasted his way to a huge company but he’s the one that did it so I can’t hate him for that
Those arguments all make sense to YOU, but they may not make sense to an aging owner who wants a SB before he dies.
Then since 2009, when he became the majority owner (95%), he should not have had… Tony Sparano Joe Philbin Adam Gase Brian Flores as the team’s head coaches Head coaches Miami could have or should have made a run for since Ross’ tenure include, but not limited to: Brian Billick Jim Harbaugh Bill Cowher Jeff Fischer Andy Reid All of these men were HEAD COACHES and yet Ross rolled the dice over and over and over again on un-tested coordinators. Even if McDaniel pans out, how many errors did Ross commit before being that blind squirrel that found a nut? If Ross was indeed SERIOUS about winning a Super Bowl, there have been plenty of other options.
To be fair, Ross has tried many different ways to lure star players here. It's not as if he's a cheap-*** who won't spend money. He even tried to get Tom Brady.
Well...I wasn't suggesting that, but...Ok. Hey... Hopefully Hill gets his extension and we get to the Super Bowl!!!!!!
Would have been nice but that would have been Huizenga’s hire. Ross didn’t become majority owner until 2009. Tomlin took over In Pittsburgh in 2007.
Star players are great. No doubt about it but Star head coaches are leaps and bounds better! Don Shula Marv Levy Joe Gibbs Bill Cowher Andy Reid From yesteryear to today, you get the RIGHT head coach, everything else falls into place. Since Shula’s retirement, and the loss of ownership from the Robbie family, the Dolphins as an organization has been inept in rebuilding this team and it’s yet to be seen if this current team and coaching staff is the real deal. Hopefully Ross, being the blind squirrel that he is finally found a nut.
It‘s not that he’s not serious about winning a Super Bowl, he wants (or wanted to) it to do it his way. The reason we didn’t go after the already great coaches is, that Ross is handling the Dolphins like his own business and he wants new faces and not the already accomplished. The Sean Payton and Brady move was probably because he got tired of waiting or somebody else pushed for it.
Well he did try to get Harbaugh once and failed. Didn't try the second time because he cared more about Michigan. Also tried to get Fisher and failed but he isn't a good coach so that is whatever
Fisher’s been to more Super Bowls than any head coach the Dolphins have had since Shula’s retirement combined. Just saying.
This is a bit of revisionist history. When Ross bought the team he had the stipulation that Parcels remain on with the team. Parcels is the one who brought Sparano as HC as he was familiar with him from Dallas. I'm not a big Parcels fan but he is widely respected and I'm not sure how you find fault in Ross following his advice. After Parcels left, Ross tried to replace Sparano with Harbaugh but Harbaugh wanted to stay at the college level at the time. After firing Sparano, Ross offered the job to Fisher who took the Rams job instead. Ross and Ireland fell back to plan B and hired Philbin and IIRC it was based on a recommendation from Carl Peterson. Again, someone who is highly regarded in football circles. As for Adam Gase, I'm not sure anyone can make a strong argument for his hiring but he must be great in interview as the Jets fell for his BS after seeing his debacle in Miami. Flores is a good coach but has too much of a chip on his shoulder and didn't get along with Grier so one of them had to go. But after firing Flores, the team flirted with hiring Payton. So its not like Ross hasn't tried to hire experienced coaches, it just hasn't worked out that way.
I'd like to think Ross learned from his early days.Him having Ireland to long would make things difficult for many coaches.
