I agree, I'm not a huge fan of Lexy either, and imho we need a Kick Returner in the worst way...

Horrible move. They need to let him go unless they think he can be a monster on special teams

woo hooo. not sure he stays after all the cuts are announced and we pick up some of the castoffs but good news. I think he made it more for his attitude than his produuction. he represents the style of football parcells and sparanio love. punch you in the face type. wonder if polite sticks?

    Are you guys serious?
By end of the next season teh latest, ricky and ronnie might be gone. Cobbs can't be an everydown back. This guy runs downhill, and he runs hard. He has some speed, bounced outside vs Carlina and took it to the house. And he IS very solid on STs, i read somewhere that he was top 5 in tackles in STs in preseason.

wow, lol. Talk about negative nancies. It's the 53rd roster spot. Nobody we get there is going to be any better or worse than Hilliard.

Give the kid props. Came into a camp with with a Number Overall pick and a Number 2 overall pick at RB, and he still managed to get noticed. Happy to have him around.

I wonder if this has any bearing on keeping 6 WRs. If keeping Hilliard means losing Brandon London, this move is a mistake, IMHO.

I don't care if he's slow. It just bothers me that he always seems to seek contact. His speed is acceptable, just not noteworthy. When you accelerate/hit the hole like he does, his long speed is less of an issue.

Well he can't turn the corner so sideline to sideline.

Its not like he can bust through the line, not to mention his blocking and carrying are pretty bad.

Honestly we could get him on the PS no team would take him. Hell I would wait for the Jets to cut one of their RB's.

I just don't think he can really contribute.

    He isn't "slow."

    He's just not a 4.3 guy...if he were, he'd be a WR.

You guys must have been watching another player hit the hole all preseason. He's quick - quicker than Ronnie and Ricky both; only Cobbs out-accelerates Hilliard in the first 10-15 yards...and Hilliard has 3" and 40 pounds on Cobbs.

Yeah he is slow I was watching him closely vs the Saints and every carry was like Slowmotion. Whats worst was when he tried to turn the corner. No way in hell could he fill in for Ricky or Cobbs he would constantly get negative yards.

He really isn't quick def not quicker than Ronnie or Ricky.

I like it. Physical runner that is hard to take down. Could be a good goal line runner. Problem is, like others have mentioned, he seeks contact to much. But in time, he will learn.

Hilliard was also going up against 3rd stringers...

I don't think we have a major need for him on our 53 man roster. Ricky and Ronnie both have two years left. Patrick Cobbs is likely a good replacement for Ricky when the time comes.

I really don't see us letting Ronnie hit the open market. Everyone says "well they won't overpay..". Parcells and Co. gave Curtis Martin a $35-$40 million deal over 6 years... which for that time... pretty big.

Hilliard is a practice squad player, IMO. I'd rather keep Kershaw or Walden over him.

I didn't ever expect us to keep 6 Wrs. IMO, it is between London and Turner for the 5th spot.

Nabo...he looked fast because he was running against the D teamers on a Saints team without a lot of depth on defense...they were really bad on D last yr and not much has changed for the Saints.

It would be like running 40yd dashes against the fat kids, of course you would look really fast, the lights come on and instead of one defender for Lexy to beat, he will see a swarm of them.

And we really need a jack of all trades on ST kick returner, Lexy won't see the ball much, a KR will handle the ball 7-10 times a game and have a chance to produce additional yardage.

Didn't see the Aints game, and I didn't see much of the second half of the Tampa game. But, I noticed him play against Jax and Carolina, and I think he may have a very good all around skill set. Definitely like his toughness. For all those sayin' we have Ronnie and Ricky, keep in mind...Ronnie might be wearing another uni next season. And, Ricky is always just one toke away from being out of football altogether. Besides, injuries are always a factor. Especially RB's, who take one hell of a beating during the course of a season. So, I think having depth at RB is a good thing.

    JMHO...

The cut down to 53 includes the PS guys. That roster has to be filled by Sunday a 4:00pm. All this means is that he's made the 53 man roster (45 active plus PS)....my guess is he'll end up on the PS and not usually active on gameday...

    Great great post!!!!

Listen folks, we analyze this crap to death in here... unbelievable angles. Every number and statistic we can imagine, but guess what. That is but one IOTA of what the FO and coaches throw into the hat.

If Sparano, all his diciples and Lord Tuna believe Lex Hilliard is one of the keys to being a better football team, I have ZERO issue with that what-so-ever.... I mean its not like Sparano has accomplished much over the last year....oh wait.:shifty:

Relax guys, no matter what we believe or say isn't going to change it. Instead of being negative, sit back, soak it up and an enjoy. Football is HERE!!!! :woot:

As far as Hilliards speed. It is ALL within the LOS folks. He hits the hole at top speed. For him thats just not that fast. I say its an explosive speed actually. He's not gonna take any to the bank, but at 3rd and 3 or so, that is an ideal situation for him. Not every back gets to top speed before even hitting the hole....actually very very few do.

Because he has fumbled once in 42 carries?
And his fumble wasn't because of has carlesness, more of a good timed from the defenses part.

Wow, looks like sexy Lexy or T-Lex is a very controversial keeper if he indeed stays. I like it because of the potential loss of Ricky or Ronnie after the next season. I do agree I would hate for him to take Brandon London's spot, I didn't see Lex take any reps at FB, so Polite seems safe. I guess I like keeping Lex but wonder at the expense of who?

If it came down to Lex vs. London, we seem to have a strong stable of WR's and that is outweighed by the worry about losing Ricky or Ronnie, so I would say keep Lex if it came down to that choice.
