The video may be the same but he new subtitles are fresh and make it funny.A least I found it funny even though have seen the video a dozen times with other subtitles.

Paul, that was gold...really funny all the way through. I mean, even the mention of the new logo at the end was a stroke of genius. Good work...

 

Using the Downfall clip stopped being funny after the first 500 times someone used it.

 

It is a Swiss actor named Bruno Ganz. The guy is brilliant in this role. If ever someone deserved an Oscar for best actor but didn't even get a nomination it was Ganz for this role. But, I guess stars of foreign made films don't get much Oscar consideration. Best portrayal of Hitler in any movie ever.

 

Have you ever seen the actual movie in it's entirety? I found the use of that scene funny when I first seen it used, like with Terrell Owens and some of the other early ones. But after seeing the entire movie a couple of times and seeing that scene in it's actual context, for some reason, at least for me, it ceased being funny when used in any clips like that.

Paul did a really nice job of making it, but just being honest, it did not elicit any laughter from me.

There are millions of these parodies using Downfall as the backdrop. Don't jump on Paul for it.

I would guess there is more like hundreds of them rather than millions. I do not think anyone jumped on Paul. I complimented his work. Just also honestly stated that parodies using Downfall are not funny to me, anymore. That does not constitute jumping on him.

 

First, it's embellishment. But there are probably thousands, at least.

Second, yeah if you didn't jump on him than it wasn't directed to you

 

The Russians did a helluva job of getting even and then some. By far and away the biggest mistake Hitler made was invading Russia. Especially after signing a treaty not long before that with Stalin. Had he not made that fatal error, the Third Reich may still be ruling Western Europe.

It always struck me as odd (and telling) there there is no Stalinistic version of this meme.

He literally hid out in Dacha pissing himself when Beria et al showed up, he did so b/c if he had been them, he would have had himself killed for incompetence...as he did tens of thousands of just avg Russians.

But of course, history does not record each as evil bastards, Stalin's malice is typically ignored or unspoken.

He got a bunch of awards in Europe for it. The movie was done as only the Germans, the people who followed Hitler to the destruction of their nation (and of whom he said in the end that they should all die because they didn't measure up to his expectations), could have done it. It was great art and belongs in a museum. Ganz became Hitler. The message of the movie is that the Germans were also victims of the Nazis.

The movie was so serious, about such a depressing subject, that using it for comic relief helps the depression a bit. Great job, Paul.

 

I agree that Paul did a great job from a technical and creativity standpoint, and had I not seen Downfall a couple of times already, maybe I'd have laughed. The first time I seen it was a similar clip about Terrell Owens, and as I recall, it made me laugh, but at that time I'd not seen the movie. After seeing the movie and it's depressing content, became the point where using that clip from the movie for comic relief did not work for me. It would be the same if someone tried to take a clip out of Schindler's List or another similar movie and use it comic relief, IMO. I do not fault anyone who gets a laugh out of it, I am only speaking from my personal perspective.
