Martz is taking over as OC for Chicago. He really doesn't like to use a TE for much more than blocking and very rarely has the need for 2 TE sets. Olson's strength is clearly as a receiver and not a blocker. Plus they still have Desmond Clark.
Olson's current deal is a bargain of 5 years for 7 mill. It runs through 2012.
He has all the ability we would want in a big play TE and he seems to have been severely miscast in a Martz system. I'd think his transition here would also be somewhat easier since Henne/Cutler share some similarities.
I wonder what it would take for us to bring him to Miami. Possibly throw Joey Porter or Cam Wake (if he's not in our plans) into the deal as well.

I've been thinking about the same thing. He isn't a free agent however so it would have ot be a trade and they would over value him to us. He wold probably cost us a top rounder #4 or better I would think. However he is a true pass catching TE with speed, not to much of a blocker though
-
I was hoping we'd get him in the draft... He would be a GREAT addition and could throw a new loop in the Wildcat as well, being that he could line up at WR or in the backfield and whatnot. I love Fasano still though, hopefully he has a big comeback year too...

Never has somebody done so little and been loved by so many.

The Cutler and Gaines Adams trades have crippled that franchise for 2010.
Not that trading for Olsen would make sense, it wouldn't surprise if he were on the market though Te is one of their few deep positions. -
Kellen Davis, he is being wasted as a Te, at MSU they used him as a passrushing DE and he was the spitting image of Jason Taylor.
That dude should head to the CFL and play DE fulltime, he ran like a high 4.5 40, man whatta waste of player.

if he is aviable for trade we should look into it but he will be a bear next season but the year after that i dont know
-
I know you say that Olsen really doesn't fit into Martz's system in CHI. But, I also don't believe he fits into the Dolphins system for the same reason. This regime seems to convent run blocking ability in a TE. Multiple TE sets, almost translating to extra o-linemen.
Olsen certainly is a great talent and would arguably be the best receiving threat on the Fins roster, but I just don't see him fitting into our plans. -
I don't think they'll want to trade a #1 pick after three years that has gotten better each season. I doubt he's even available. Has there been any mention?
As Jim also pointed out, if the problem up there would be that he isn't a blocker, wouldn't that pose the same issue here?
I think we can do better.MonstBlitz and JimToss like this. -
I agree with MaddMatt. Fasano is solid TE and will have a much better year. If Olson is available somehow he will most likely cost a boat load and he isn't even a good blocker, an area where Fasano excels.
-
I don't see it happening, Bears would want too much, we don't need him THAT badly. And I also expect a much improved Fasano next season.
-
Not trusted to play 100% of the snaps at TE..and every once and a while drops one or fumbles one away.
no thanks. -
The problem I've got with Olsen is that he's got a godawful catch % on passes thrown his way.
Pro Football Focus has him catching 56.2% of passes thrown to him(5th worst among TEs with 25% of snaps), and Stats Inc. has him with 48 passes "not caught". -
Won't happen. Martz already stated he will find ways to use him.
-
Throw in Cam Wake? Are you serious??
-
Cam Wake the player and Cam Wake the legend are two very diff things.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Wake fan, but he's nowhere near the player that some people hype him up to be. At least not yet. -

But like I said, I think we're only making due with what we have on offense right now. If we could acquire a receiving TE that can create the mismatches, then I would think we would. Add to that our OL was beat to hell last year and that made us keep our TE in to block more than we may have otherwise.
****ty blocking considered, Olson is still a big upgrade over Fasano, IMO. -
I actually wouldn't mind seeing more of Kory Sperry.
