Been a big supporter of TUA and have been giving him the benefit of the doubt this year, but I'm ready to concede that he isn't the long-term answer at QB for the Dolphins. Yes were still fighting for a playoff spot and 1 win out of the last 4 games and we are in but we managed to fail miserably in DEC (the worst time for it IMHO) so now we need to win out to ensure we squeek in. (If we do were 1-done anyway the way this teams playing) one lose and were probably missing the playoffs at the feet of NE or the Jets ugh... I have bit my Tounge the last 4 weeks on here because I was becoming really negative on the defense and Tua's play of late. That said We as Dolphins fans and the team have some really big issues and I'm not dure how we can solve them in one offseason with no real draft options. Tua has been figured out under the McDaniel system and defenses now know he's a one read QB. Miami Herald just posted a big article with all the analyst talking about this now. (Network analysts assess Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa after four losses in row | Miami Herald) HE SINGLE HANDLELD has lost us 3 or 4 games this year with his gameplay. When he's good or when the defense lets him get his first read he's great. However, I'm not sure he has the ability to process the reads fast enough at this level. Im pretty sure they GM and Coach are going to try and get a STUD RB and think thats going to fix things. But we still have a shiet Oline that gets pushed back to much. So a stud RB will only help marginally until we fix that issues 20+ years in the making. Our defense under the guidance of the failed Boyer experience needs to be addressed. We might have won a few more games had we not been constantly giving up 30 points week after week. No offense can sustain that. We need to replace some aging moneyhats with hungry fighters. McDaniel doesn't seem to adjust very good after half time. Ill give some time hes first time coach and hes got a team that seems to believe in him so that goes a far way with me right now. Special teams seems to be taking a step back also. In terms of priority I see our needs as 1. QB 2. Defense Coordinator 3. Defense Players addition by subtraction 4. Oline Fix 5. Running Back 6. Special Teams aces Not sure how we can fit this. What do you all think needs to be done and what's the priority going forward? We don't have a draft pick to address this, Who is out there that we could Trade / Aquire with some picks etc? Jimmy G?
1. Ross Sell team 2. completely clean house(NO HOLD OVERS) 3.Get a tough defensive minded coach to toughen up the softest team in the league(Mentally and physically soft team) 4. sign vet QB for 1 season 5. 2024 draft QB.
They will 100% have a different defensive coordinator next year. That is the only for sure thing that is going to happen. Tua is going to be the starting quarterback next year barring a complete mental breakdown these last two games. I would like for them to draft a quarterback in the early rounds next season to put pressure on him.
The biggest obstacle to overhaul the team is the defensive salary cap structure. Chubb - 22.2M Ogbah - 18M Byron Jones - 18.8M Baker - 12.5M Howard - 10M The prospects for all these players next year look very bleak to say the least. 70+ million on 5 guys who we would happily cut in a split second! (Because of their salary). And realistically the only guy who can be cut is Byron Jones.
I’m not gonna bag on Ogbah because he’s played his heart out the last few years and earned his contract. Those others have not lived up to their contracts, especially Chubb. Our biggest problem is going to be at CB. What do we do about X? I think Jones is gone. X has been a major liability in coverage this year. Outside of that, we need backers and still need to fix this OL. I don’t trust Grier to draft either of those positions. We’ve turned that Tunsil trade into a team that isn’t a contender, still might not have our QB and Waddle/Hill aren’t going to win you games when we’re failing in every other phase of the game.
Grier is a ****ing Moron! They paid Chubb's like he is a Bosa caliber player. Now we lost late first rd pick and stuck with his bloated salary. Fire that dude tomorrow! Before he gives Tua and extension!
The Hill acquisition keeps getting worse the better he plays... Because it Proves that he wasn't what the team needed, and his presence seems to have exacerbated Tua's mental weaknesses. We could have 22-TD Jerry Rice on this team and still lose. If Waddle was our only star WR, then Tua wouldve been forced to read the defense better and find the open man. Instead, he just chucks it at Hill, no matter what, and Hill often can make a play. If we hadnt traded for Hill, we couldve used that pick on another quality OL guy and maybe we could convert 3rd and 3 (or less) on the ground. Dolphins have to be the Worst 3rd and Short team in NFL history. Dolphins have turned 30 or more '2nd and 1' into 'punting or worse'. It's ****ing Embarrassing!!
Drafting a QB relatively high I think will crush Tua, especially considering his previous experience under Flores. I think Destroyer is completely correct.
That is a very sad post. The worst thing that could have happened is the Tua concussion protocol; if he misses games we are still stuck with the well he played great in x number of games. Was hoping he would play both and things would be obvious, now we have muddy water again. Was really hoping Tua would be the guy. DC has got to go! I stated at beginning of the year the defense was what worried me most. I've watched several Chargers games and our game plan against them was the worst by far. Totally allowed the checked down all game long when it was obvious that was something they liked to do. Kicker has got to go, if he makes the kick in last game perhaps things go differently. Cannot count on the game, is is almost terrible at this point. Still a big fan of McDaniel's. Guys are still wide open, sadly Tua is not doing the job. Defense need to cut Chubbs, what a complete total miss on that one. Very sad. Perhaps a new DC can fix things? Van Ginkel is only LB I would keep. He plays hard and is making plays again.
It's weird how the concussion 'kinda' changes the narrative about Tua...but the end result is the same. The 3 Ints were either cuz he's not a smart QB and doesnt read defenses and he's easily fooled...which means his longterm viability is nil and we need to move on.. Or His durability is nil and he wont last and we need to move on. There's no way to look at reality here and Not come to the conclusion that 'we need to move on'. Is there ANYTHING Chris Grier could do to get fired?!? Seriously WTF?!?
There is no quick fix. Even if Tua had not been injured vs GB, and even had we won the game, this team would have been looking at a massive amount of holes that there just aren't the resources to fix in one offseason. They have made due all year long due to big plays and creative play calling, but its mostly been on the backs of just a handful of guys. The offense is bad at nearly everything other than big pass plays The OL has at least two huge holes, while Armstead is frequently injured, Williams has off weeks, and Hunt is above average at best and headed into a contract year. The team has zero RBs under contract next season, and no one on the current roster is the long term answer regarless There are no potential starters among the TEs who are under contract The LB unit is a complete disaster outside of Baker, who's a fine starter but not an impact player and not worth his big payday Howard has played all season with an injury that's greatly hampered him, and at this point no one really knows whether he can regain his form for next year. Regardless, he's due huge money not next year, but the year after that, and can't realistically be moved on from until the start of the 2025 league year. On the other side, no one outside of the team knows what the Hell is going on with Byron Jones, who's also due big money next season. Best case, the team cuts him after June 1 and takes a big cap hit in 2023 and in 2024 just to be rid of him. Nick Needham is a free agent who's coming off of a severe achilles injury. Who knows what will happen there, but my guess is that he's not back. Brandon Jones is also coming back off of a several leg injury and will be in the final year of his rookie deal. Even if he's healthy, he's better used as a situational player in the dime and not in coverage. Holland has been badly used and inconsistent this year. Hopefully he can play up to form under a new coach.
Defensive coordinator is definitely going to change.. but so is our defense.. i can see the dolphins make major changes to our secondary.. theyll probably pursue a veteran quarterback to compete with Tua.. jimmy g makes sense.. and we will have to bring in a young talent qb to groom
Priority #1 should be fire Chris Grier and get a new GM in here who has a clue and can fix the complete mess Grier got us in.
Only move I really need to see made this offseason is getting a new GM to fix the disaster Grier made.
While I am all for getting rid of Chris Grier, there is a potential disaster in the making there. Grier should have been fired along with Flores. A head coach and GM go hand in hand. Miami should have brought in a new GM with input on who the next head coach would be. If Grier is fired (which will make me do a ridiculously silly happy dance) my only hope will be that we hire a COMPETENT GM and he also subscribes to the McDaniel football philosophy. If not, there’s going to be friction and we’ll be right back at square one if said GM recommends firing McDaniel in x number of years. Sadly though, I don’t see any of this being an issue as long as Ross is still the owner
All this talk about firing Grier is to me fantasy talk. That man is for whatever reason a survivor. He should have been fired long ago but Ross seems to like him. So whatever the merits of wanting a better GM I just can't see it happening. Not even sure it makes sense to keep pointing out Grier should be replaced given how low the chances of it seem to be. A new DC I can see, but Grier seems to be impossible to get rid of.
We were a mediocre team before the rebuild, and we are still a mediocre team after the rebuild. We are no better off now than we were with Tannehill and Gase. Grier was ultimately responsible for the entire process before during and after. How can he not get fired? WTF does he have on Ross to keep his job after so many years of failure? It's going to be the same **** every year from now until we get a new GM.
That's my point. I don't know. The simplest answer is Ross is too dumb to see who is responsible. I mean Grier has been failing for a long time and all he does is get promoted. Can you explain that? Only explanation is Ross is too dumb. Either way, evidence suggests it's fantasy talk to ask for Grier being canned. I'd love to see it happen though.
I guess my bigger point was the real problem is Ross, and we know he's not selling the team. So yeah.. loooong wait ahead. I think our best bet is to just get lucky someday. You know that Leicester City won the English Premier League with 5000:1 odds? That translates to a +499900 moneyline, which is more than 17 times the worst moneyline to win the SB this preseason (Houston Texans had a +29000 moneyline). It'll be our turn again.. someday lol.
Grier and his top assistants have all been with the team since at least the early Wanny era, and some even the 90s. Same people, making the same choices, coach after coach. We would be much better off completely cleaning out the Front Office and starting completely from scratch like an expansion team in that respect.
The only way anything like that would happen (which I'm not completely opposed to) would be Ross selling the team to a new owner who is a TRUE football guy...and the ONLY way it'll truly work is to trade EVERYONE away to accumulate draft picks... I just don't see THAT happening.
How many TRUE football guys have $4 billion to spend? You need an owner willing to spend, who also knows what he doesn’t know, who then hires a football guy to run the show.
When I say a true football guy, I mean someone who is a true football fan. Jerry Jones, basically an oil and business tycoon but a genuine football fan. Look what he did in Dallas his first few years. Robert Kraft, another genuine football fan. The Patriots dominated the league for 20 years. The Hunts with Kansas City Rooney with the Steelers Bottom line, we need an owner who is a football guy and not an absentee, NY real estate mogul who shows up only on game days
Absolutely hated that move!! WTF? That was insane! Grier screwed us yet again! Enough with this clown!
Chubb's is pretty bad. Actually amazing watching him being abused by a single blocker play after play and zero moves
Dude wtf didn't we trade for Roquan smith?Best Linebacker in league and I believe he went for a 4th rd pick.Wtf!They paid Chubb like he is Bosa u know an actual game changer.
I know my gripes will influence 0 change but I’m going to refuse to buy into any hope of our organization taking the next step until he’s gone.
Right now odds for Dolphins to win the SB are +5000 moneyline.. basically 50:1 odds so 100x more likely than Leicester City lol. Just have to play 50 seasons like this and we've done it! Motivation to live long I guess? lol..
I doubt we move on from Tua even though that's what a lot of you want. We've been trying to find a quarterback for a quarter of a century now. Obviously they don't just grow on trees so that has to be taken into consideration. Who...Exactly is going to come in next year and replace him? I asked the same question last year. I can't believe some of the names I've seen suggested this year. One guy screamed out for Taylor Heinicke which was probably the most ridiculous replacement I've heard. We could try a retread...Derek Carr will be looking to play somewhere next year. I don't think Aaron Rodgers is playing next year in Green Bay either. I think he's as good as gone. Lamar Jackson is another name that may be on the move. IF any of those three become a legitimate option for us, we almost have to consider doing it right? I'm not going to give up on Tua, but I'm just about there myself at this point. It's not even the play that's bothered me. It's the injuries...The constant injuries and missing time, concussions, I'm just tired of it at this point. Only he would finish a game and then a day later come out and say "Ya know what? I don't feel right!" I'm ready to move on if that's what we decide to do. I'm also ready to stick with him another year if that's what we decide to do. Being a fan of this team is pure pain at times.
Gotcha. What we need is what Mets fans got: a super rich guy who is a fan and wants to win, not just make money off the investment.
You’re probably right about Tua, with the exception of him being forced or even medically advised to retire. Then it’s truly starting over. The only truly intriguing name you mentioned is Jackson; he would make this the fastest offense ever (assuming Mostert sticks around). Heinecke, Wentz, Mayfield, Mills, Darnold, Wilson, Smith, Dalton, etc. - NO. Brady and Rogers - too short of a window with our D. Carr is going to want more money than he’s worth, so that leaves Jimmy G, and he’s going to be very popular this off-season, and will have his pick of many opportunities. I’m not 100% sold on any of the QBs in this draft, but there are quite a few who had good college careers and will be available after round 1. Maybe take a flier on one and hope to get lucky and McDaniel can mold them. As far as who to ditch, that list depends on cap implications, and perhaps one of our capologists can wade through that data for us. Besides Jones, there are a number of overpaid players on the defensive side of the ball, which is ironic since it’s also the weakest unit on the team.
Miami would probably be Jimmy Gs first choice if it was an option. Tua will be the starter so either continue to invest in the backup spot or draft someone McDaniel likes and develop them.
Why do you have to get rid of all of the players to switch front office personnel and scouts, though?
