Missed on some prospects tried to fill those holes with FA and it didn't pan out.

 

We have had offensive line problems for close to 30 years. During the Marino years, we had big linemen who could pass block but not pull or drive block. During the Ricky years we may have had a more pedestrian line but we had no one at QB. We then brought in people who everyone knew were good but had injury problems. Today we have an excellent left tackle, a rookie center with promise who has long snap problems, and everyone else sucks a big one, with no depth to boot. Never have we come close to the athletic, quintessentially tough line we had in the 70s.

 

offensine line is everything and that's ireland's fault. he's the one responsible for bringing in the talent. have you seen any of our olinemen play well for other teams after they've been cut by us?

 

I haven't seen the vast majority of our offensive linemen play for anyone else at all after they were cut by us.

 

Ever since they whiffed on Smiley and Grove, the OL has been below average.

 

and all we needed are just average guys... we don't need studs just average guys, guys that can block...

we can't even find mediocre guys, just bad OL men and and we pay them millions...

The Dolphins had a pretty good off-season, actually. Marc Colombo was not a good decision, but that probably was Sparano's, not Ireland's decision.

Lousaka Polite and Zach Miller aren't answers to any questions we have. Clay and Hilliard have done a better job than Polite did outside a handful of games in 2009, and Anthony Fasano is better than Zach Miller. At everything.

If you wander back to 2001, Parcells last true rebuild job, when he pulled out, that team was just bad, the vets had gone over the hill and the young players were not ready to contribute.

I think this squad is better and more talented, but the holes are to obvious to ignore.

 

When you look at the amount of resources we have dumped into the O-line in both money and draft picks you really have to shake your head in disgust.

Our problem is not on the left side. the problem is we have no RG or RT and today no LT. Add that up genius people. Thats 2 legit offensive lineman that were playing today, a center and a LG. Pouncey is not half bad but he got his asssss beat into the ground today, literally.

Love the football knowledge. Been telling all of you Garner bloows I hope after todays flogging of him you are convinced. Garner at best is a backup on this team or any other team. Replace Columbo and Lard azzz Carey with someone decent and this Oline is a pretty decent one. Moore already proved having a halfway decent mobil QB makes things a lot easier for the big guys up front. Get a good legit QB in here and get a RG and RT and we have 5 to 7 more wins this year.

Garner blows at LT, that is true. he is pretty decent at all the other positions.

 

You can't replace and upgrade them all. Incognito is not the weak link. Best for him though would be if we signed a LG and moved Richie to RG.

 

see this is what i dont get. how is sparano blamed for the oline and not ireland. i could see it if we cut someone and they played well on another team. that would mean its the coaching. but when they get cut and are out of the league or are benchwarmers how is that sparanos fault and not irelands. because its one or the other not both

 

Because more often than not it is Tony's decision on who to bring in for the OL. He most assurely told Ireland whom to bring in and whom not to...

They worked together at Dallas, and you could be right it could be both of their decision to hire... just thinking that Ireland has not done as bad on any other position of the team...

What happened v the Eagles, was as clear a case of this failure as the most addled minded Sparano detractor could come up with.

We have the best left tackle in football, a good left guard and what looks to be a franchise center. Garner is a good back up (accept at left tackle) but after that we have rubbish. We need a swing tackle for depth, a starting right tackle and a starting right guard.

 

Where do you get that these were sparano's choices though? Someone had final say and it seems to me that person is ireland. Take a look at what sparano was given and tell me how he was supposed to make it work. Everyone we've cut hasn't done anything elsewhere. Imo it would be sparano's fault if we cut offensive linemen here because they didn't work out and when they went to a new team they all of a sudden became good playersd but since that hasn't happened the fault would appear to lie with ireland unless you can prove that sparano was the one doing the scouting

 

Yes, that's not what I'm basing it on, though. Tony Sparano got some personnel power this off-season, and Colombo is the most likely example of him exercising that. He's a short-term, offensive line free agent that Sparano has experience with and has been quite vocal in supporting.

It's an assumption, but based on the facts we have it's almost certainly true.

We know for a fact Sparano got personnel power this off-season. If it wasn't specifically exercised over picking up Colombo, what could it possibly be?

Keep the left side in tact and fill the other two holes. Have some continuity from year to year and watch them improve in spades.

 

Deciding who makes the roster? I would think that would be the main issue for any coach that wants personnel power. At least that is what I would assume. He probably went to Ireland and said he's comfortable with Colombo, but Ireland still didn't really give him any other options. You can and should rely on coaches to make good decisions based on guys they've worked with closely, but it would be folly to have a coach evaluate the entire free agent pool and make a good decision.

 

I guess that's possible, but I don't see how Sparano would come to the table and want that as part of his make-good package. That's not going to make or break his job or specifically give him the tools he needs.

 

His make-good package was money. The rest was really just window dressing for the the fans and media. I'm sure he gave general parameters for what he wanted (Jahvid Best), but I just have a hard time seeing the front office give him carte blanche power to pick out who those specific guys were. I'm sure he gave the OK for Colombo, but I still think the front office should be somewhat responsible for not bringing in enough at the position.
