For some? Sure. It doesn't mean it was for them, or even for most people. That's my point. Self preservation has been PROVEN to be one of the hardest things to overcome.

To look for the positives in life no matter what comes your way? To fight through things instead of just ending things?

    Yeah, real sad.

have you guys ever read about how people commit suicide? and you are telling me they are of enough sane mind to consider it a selfish act?? I'm sure some are accidental but come on people that commit suicide do it in awlful ways......

i am sorry for your losses....we have talked about this off of this site....but i still in my opinion dont believe that anything is as hard as losing the child you created.....the one you have dreams and hopes for....the one that does things like you and wants to be like you....i would be heartbroken and devestated....absolutley devestated if my mom died.....but i dunno honestly what i would do with myself or how i could live if i lost my baby boy.....knock on wood....

To save an uproar on the site, all I'll say is I hope you don't have to live through that one, but I'm sure that you would be able to make it through the pain. You are not a weak individual.

i would never know enless it happened.....thats why i dont believe anyone should judge these people if they dont know how it feels to lose your child....you and your wife laying in bed.....no more waking up to change him....no more taking him to the park or buying him school clothes or discussing with your wife about the kids school, and teachers....

my wife and i now plan our every day around zachary....our weekends, our nights, our weeknights, when we go out to dinner....and if your used to that...and all of a sudden its done.....the babies gone....with constant daily reminders of that child.....i would go absolutley insane.....iam crying now typing this even just thinking about it.....i dont know if i could be able to deal with my day to day life without him now that i have him as my everything!

My Grandmother has had to bury three of her children in her life time. I thank god all the time that she has remained sane through all the things she has went through in her life. I would be devastated if she would have done something to herself after my uncles past away. If she would have done something to herself when my Aunt Vicki past away when she was 13, it would have destroyed her family. Death sucks, and losing your own children, something you helped create, is unbearable, but you have so many other people on this planet that love you, and cherish you every day to end your life that way.

I've read quite a bit of this thread and I'll simply say this: I do not believe these people were cowards at all. After losing the thing in life most precious to them, they decided they could not go on living. None of us here should judge them or say what they did was selfish IMO.

Suicide, more often than not, is triggered by severe depression or an unusally traumatic event. This depression is often times caused by (but not limited to) a chemical inbalance in the brain.

I had a cousin blow his head off with a shotgun due to a hellish time he was going through. I myself damn near OD'd on pills on time when I thought there was no other way out of the situation I was in. I see where you feel that suicide is an act of cowardice, Joe, because I believe that in some ways it is easier to take your life than it is to face it. But I think despair is a better term, we've all felt despair at one level or another in our lives, hopefully not to the level that these people felt it, and we will all lose more people that we love as we move forward, be they parents, siblings, spouses, friends and even , God forbid, children. Yes, their act is very selfish when looked at in black and white, but who knows what other factors were involved that led to this sad event? I don't condone the act, and I'm sure that if this couple had been able to reach out to someone and let them know how bad they were hurting something could have been done to save them.
