As I've done for the past few years here, I've broken down how the Dolphin opening day roster was built.

I'm listing Jason Allen and Koa Misi as starters though that may not last past week 1 or even the 1st quarter tomorrow. And I'm listing Channing Crowder as a starter since he is still on the active roster and lost his job due to injury.

53 man roster, 24 starters to include Kicker and Punter.

Draft: 15 starters, 6 reserves
Undrafted Free Agents: 1 starter, 5 reserves
Free Agency: 6 starters, 12 reserves
Trades: 2 starters, 6 reserves

Rookies: 3 starters, 7 reserves

Who Brought Them In:
Wanny (2000-2003): 1 starter, 1 reserve
Spiels (2004): 1 starter, 0 reserves
Saban (2005-2006): 3 starters, 2 reserves
RanCam (2007): 1 starter, 2 reserves
Ireland-Parcells (2008-2010): 18 starters, 24 reserves

Further breakdown of Ireland-Parcells acquisitions
Year 1: 11 players - 7 starters - 4 Drafted - 2 Undrafted FA - 4 Free Agents - 1 Trade
Year 2: 12 players - 5 starters - 5 Drafted - 0 Undrafted FA - 5 Free Agents - 2 Trade
Year 3: 19 players - 6 starters - 5 Drafted - 2 Undrafted FA - 8 Free Agents - 4 Trade

The most interesting aspect to the roster IMHO are that this regime seems to have given up on using drafted players to fulfill depth. Last Year drafted players made up 26 players on the roster and 15 of them were reserves. This year only 21 players on the roster were drafted by the Dolphins, but only 6 of them are reserves.

How the 2009 Dolphins were built.

you know, Ricky Williams is kind of all of their doings. Its hard to just accredit him to Wanny.

Saban brought him back. Then Cam did. Then Parcells played a big part in motivating him to care again.

Don't forget they also brought us the incredible, un-cut-able OLB.
