It's obvious that the influx of talent at the Qb position has something in common, the ability to break containment and make things happen when protection breaks down.. Andrew Luck..Ben Roth..A Rodgers..Russell Wilson..Dree Bree's..Tom Brady..Joe Flacco..RG.. What's the best way to contain and beat this kind of player, is it the giants route by getting four symmetrically balanced large athletes that play a lot smaller on the Dline to pressure and make the plays bigger Dlineman cannot make, or is it a better secondary?
The answer is speed IMO along with making sure everyone maintains their contain, but still can get upfield. Bring your bigger safeties down to play OLB. Move your bigger OLBs to play DE, keep your size up the middle to stop the inside run. What you lack in size at those positions are made up by speed and athleticism at critical positions then. EDIT: as to secondary, they are doing their jobs just fine if QBs are having to elude a rush as protection broke down due to great coverage
we use to bring y bell down into the box when we were in a nickel set under nolans defense which i liked !!!s the giants seem to play 3 or 4 defense ends on the def line in alot of nickel which i also like , dont think we have the personal to do that tho we need another pass rusher bigtime! and some speed at linebacker!! we have seemed to struggle against [qb`s who extend the play and are mobile ] for a longtime now !
It's b/c you titled it "How would you build the defense to stop the playmaking QB"...... whereas it would still be in the mains if you titled it "Ireland must go if we want to build the defense to stop the playmaking QB". Now I know it sounds backwards but that seems to be the trend.
