Long Beach, Long Island hasnt been evacuated yet, decision tomorrow. Im gone already. Other people will have to get their rafts and get out of there....place floods like crazy as most towns/cities by the beach do.
Yeah, Im in DC... thats the only thing I worry about. Last time the storms rolled through this summer, most places were out of power for a week. Might head down the valley to the parents house if that happens, but now theyre saying in might snow FML
Fortunately, all it did was make the weather exceptional here in Orlando. Everyone in the Northeast, stay safe.
We got lucky with that surprise storm in June and didn't lose any power. Actually we got lucky last year with Irene too, I think I was only without power for around eight hours. I'm afraid my luck might run out. We've stocked up on some water and some food and we'll just wait this thing out.
everyone just remember 2 simple rules: 1. It doesn't matter how many fish you caught. If your cooler breaks, do NOT try to make it back to Gloucester. 2. When you see the eye of the storm coming, get inside a room and burn classic library books to prevent instant freezing from the -400 degree temperatures. seriously though, be safe everyone. you're in my thoughts
Despite the hurricane bearing down on me, knowing I'm going to get water in basement and trees and branches down all over the place, I find myself giddy over crushing the Jets yesterday!
Here's a stunner for you: http://instagram.com/p/RXoEkohmER/ Atlantic City is starting to look like New Orleans during Katrina. The worst part of the storm hasn't even hit yet. Wonder what lower Manhattan will look like later.
Thanks, hoping the damage is minimal here. Glad I just picked up some new tools tho. There will be repairs. Sent from my iPhone
So far still have power. 40 year old virgin is on...story of Rex Ryan's wife since hes still on the feet.
How will the winds be? 40-70mph, possibly 90mph gusts? Not enough to blow roofs off, right? I don't think I've ever been in a Hurricane before so IDK what to expect...Irene was downgraded to Tropical Storm when it hit land. And apparently a crane collapsed in Midtown Manhattan according to news, looked like it was hanging by a thread.
Jersey shore is being hammered, we will have a no shoreline after this one. Power starting to flicker on and off, winds really picking up, not much rain yet.
Yeah that crane is about 2 blocks from my sister and brother in law. Winds will hit 70MPH and up. Depends how powerful the storm is when it hits land.
Saw that all over FB, must suck to see that a plane of glass is the only thing between you and bigtime $$$ damage.
Its real windy now, trees coming down all over town, and its not even the big part of the storm yet, we have not had much rain yet.
I remember this photo, it was used as a joke after the minor earthquake that hit the east coast last year. The wind is really starting to pick up now, the worst part is that it's supposed to continue throughout the night and into tomorrow morning.
it must already be leaking though right? I mean if that happens to my home here in California, it's leaking, those sliding glass doors are never air tight and mine is about 3 years old.
Here's something you don't see every day, a completely empty Grand Central Terminal, Penn Station and Times Square subway. So strange, was at GCT this week and now its a ghost town for the next few days. http://www.buzzfeed.com/stacylambe/nycs-empty-subway-system?sub=1845343_663613
Lights out for half a million people on long island. Flooding all over long island. Trees down all over long island. My power just went out; thank goodness for cell phones. Supposedly upstate ny and further north may get 2 feet of snow.
I'm surprised some of you guys have power. Supposedly 3 million without power if you believe TV reports. This is going to be Katrina 2.0.
Yeah, wondering how long it will last. About 70% of my town is without power, its on in my area...for now.
I still have power but it keeps flickering and every time I have to reset my damn DirecTV box... oh the horrors (I'm lucky)
Maybe if a predominant portion of the affected area is below sea level to start with, if people who were provided ample opportunity to evacuate didn't (despite every effort to accommodate them), and if plenty of areas severely affected are paid almost no attention to by the media then yes, it'll be Katrina 2.0.
Not sure if fake but its possible Bull Sharks can live in Fresh Water and would follow the smell of garbage, and that is Jersey.
I havent had power since 6pm, just a smartphone and a car charger. Trees down all over, about a million people on long island without power/roughly 83%. Lots of trees down and flooding...walked the dog this morning and a few people said they had a few feet of water in the basements. Nothing too terrible in the two block radius i checked. Just might not have tv or internet for a while.
Those people in Queens stuck in the fire didn't evacuate for whatever reason. And they weren't the only ones. Part of the problem is that you have a strong storm named Irene that forces people to evacuate, the media blows it up as if it's going to be a cat 5.... and people end up seeing it was nothing close. Then they think this storm is also being over hyped and they stay in their homes. That doesn't apply to everyone that stayed but that is part of the problem. Why take chances, just evac to a hotel with a generator.
