If he were to get a 2nd round tender, would you be willing to make an offer? we have two 2nd rounders, I'd rather Ireland use one of em to get an established 25 year old stud CB rather than draft yet another disappointing guy in that round to join the likes of Misi, Thomas, Merling, Henne, Pat White, etc. I mean Shields is better than Vontae and we traded him away for a 2 and spent all year trying to replace him, might as well use a 2 to get his replacement. maybe we can give them the pick Indy gave us. plus we can always trade down in the 1st and recoup that 2nd. if Shields actually was a UFA right now he would easily be the most coveted corner on the market. Packers are really pinching pennies right now to prepare for these upcoming extensions they'll have to work out with their star players, they hit OL Dietrich Smith with the lowest tender which means now if they don't match another teams offer to him they get no compensation in return. for only $700k more they could have tendered him with a 2nd which basically assures him staying.
now the question is, how much money would we have to offer Shields to convince the Packers not to match? hopefully Philbin pushes for him.

Koa Misi is a pretty good OLB. That aside...
I like Sam Shields quite a lot. I doubt they'd let him go without a big $ being offered to him. We'd be losing our #2, not Indy's. -

Pass. Loads of good corners available who won't cost us our 2nd round pick (and it would be the early one as well) and a boat load of cash so the Packers don't match.
