I am sure that King is wrong... Looking at the players stats in his profile... Carpenter is 29/46 (63%) from over 40+ yards since the start of 2010...

2012= 1/4
2011= 13/16
2010= 15/26

He is 6/13 (46%) on over 50+ yards since 2010 start...
He is 23/33 (70%) from 40-49 yards since 2010 start...

Don't know how he can produce this article with either a blatant lie to stir the hits or incomptent reporting... Am I being a bit harsh???

 

Didn't look at the numbers here but I saw that the OP referenced kicks over 45 yards and you references those over 40 yards. Could be he is fine between 40-44 but struggles from 45+. Shows just how important those few yards can be.

 

The issue is that the profiles don't break the yardage into 45+, and unless he dids into looking at games analysis, which I don't belive he did (King), he is using some numbers and throwing it out there...


But I will check those games out and spend a few hours checking them out...

Is it surprising to anyone that he lacks leg strength and becomes very inaccurate after 45yrds. He also chokes under pressure. We need a better kicker.

 

He doesn't lack leg strength. He booms it past the end zone quite a bit. The only relevant comparison is to the rest of the kickers in the league beyond 40 yards.

He's 26th in the league. He was no. 7 in 2011 and no. 4 in 2010. He's peaked and is back down to where he was in 2008. Time to start looking for another kicker.

With those kind of stats the coaches need to get the ball closer to increase the chances of a FG .That is until he gets out of his slump or we find a better FG kicker.We are just bucking the odds if we dont IMO.

 

Cut him during the bye week if we find an adequate replacement. We should be 3-1. Carpeneter has cost this team countless millions in terms of ticket sales and has hurt our playoff chances.

Like it or not, we should be 3-1. At 3-1, facing the early schedule we faced, it certainly was something to discuss.
Look at our next 5-6 games, if we take care of business against the teams we should take care of business of, then that discussion can become even more pertinent.

 

Well, I have to say that I take everything that I stated above on King/Hyde, back... My bad... but these are situtations that Hyde was looking at when analyzing Carpenter's work over the last few years...

and he IS RIGHT... Capenters has accuracy problems after 45+ yards really since the start of last year...

So Hyde uses the 45+ instead of the 40+ yards, because if he uses the 40+ he looses his case...

IMHO, Carpenter is having mental issues on this range, and not an issue with leg strength...

 

His case is from 45 and beyond, so its his case, therefore nothing to lose....

I would like to know how many are say 45-49 and remove all the 50+ from the #'s.

 

I share your enthusiasm, bro. Still, we shouldn't have been in a position where Carpenter had to win those games with long field goals. That's indicative of bigger weaknesses than the kicker that have to be addressed before we can even begin to think of ourselves as a playoff team.

And yes; he should have made those field goals.
