If OJ Howard or Njoku are there at 22, I draft them. I create mismatch nightmares all day long. Think of the redzone threats. Double tight end sets could be RT's best friend

Terrible idea, we have glaring holes at linebacker and defensive end. TE is no longer a need with thomas in the fold. First two rounds of the draft need to be dedicated to LB and DE, followed by guard. TE is the least of our issues right now.

Im assuming we get better through FA

Great googily moogily. -
You SHOULD have stopped at Julius Thomas....
:)
Seriously though, #22 HAS to be DE/LB, with the only offensive exception being a stud Guard to complete the OL if necessary. -
I'm not in favor of overpaying these guys. One year prove me deal would be great. He's already made his money -
you always pick the best player available. You start drafting need and youre going to be reaching..

Julius Thomas shouldn't rule out an additional TE in the draft. Especially if you end up losing Kenny Stills in the off-season, you've got the targets and snaps to be a 2-TE based team.

Dion Sims shouldn't be a reason to avoid upgrading the position. He shouldn't be starting unless it is paired with another, more productive tight end. -
Just a thought if Howard there and we take him, we could be the Gronk/Hernandez Patriots which is a matchup nightmare. If you have Landry, Parker, Ajayi, Thomas, Howard in the huddle, it could be anything from a single back formation, to an I formation, to a single back shotgun, to a spread form. This is exactly how you get the defense out of position... But that's just my thought...

I like this idea. Let's not assume J.Thomas is going to return to form and catch 10 TDs. This franchise has been looking for a consistent TE since Fasano, Clay. There's been a huge void in our passing game. I'm not sold on Njoku, but would jump on OJ Howard.
As far as needs go: many have already forgotten Marqueis Gray and what he offers as a blocker. He has a role in the offense. We DO have a blocking TE. We also have project T.Duarte. Our glaring needs reside along the defensive front 7, so ideally a LB or DE is available that we like.
Reality is that it's likely players ranked higher on our board will be there... Whether it's the slew of DBs, or one of the TE's. I'm not against fortifying the TE position, because to assume it's adequate enough with J.Thomas replacing Sims would be foolish. TE is still one our biggest needs & not out of play early in the draft.
Elite TE's are the rarest of commodities in this league....can put an offense over the top.Last edited: Feb 21, 2017 -
However, if we don't address DE/LB and G during free agency, I don't think we have the luxury of taking a TE at 22. I know you mentioned you're doing this assuming we address those spots in FA, and I can get behind that plan if that's the case. I just think it's going to be difficult to address all of those needs in FA. I have to think regardless of FA, 22 becomes a defensive pick. Unless we sign LB & DE's that can come in and start right away in free agency that is.
I love the thought though of having Parker, Stills (I WANT him back, no doubt), Landry, Thomas and another impact TE, along with Ajayi or another weapon out of the backfield. As long as we can get some pass pro, that could really create a deadly offense for Miami.
Bottom line at this point, we can throw out all these idea's and scenarios all we want on the draft and picking at 22, but until we see what happens in free agency and how many holes we can fill, we really don't know.
