Well, Mort just posted this tweet:

Bengals cut CB Jamar Fletcher, whom the Dolphins chose instead of Drew Brees in 2001 draft with 26th pick overall.

I am still bitter about this.

    to open old wounds. LOL

I just saw that tweet today and it pissed me off all over again.

I am OK with our QB situation right now...however, I think we all would have been more than OK for the past 8 years with that pick had it been different and Drew was our QB still.

Now that you brought this up bro, we had to the chance to sign him in free agency and went with Duante. That left a bad mark again.

Heh, I remember I didn't want Drew Brees back then. I thought he was Jay Fiedler 2.0. And for the three years, that pretty much bore out.

    Now, not so much.

I wanted Chad Johnson or Reggie Wayne back then. Chad under Wanny probably wouldn't have worked out over the long haul.

Can you believe that was more than 8 years ago?

Just think how that one move changed so much for our team. We get brees, we never get Saban, Ricky may never retire, Ronnie Brown is playing for some other team, we never go 1-15, get tony sparano, get Chad Pennington or Henne, Jason Taylor never gets traded, Bill Parcels is some where else, Zach Thomas is still a phin, ect... The NFL is entirely different, who knows how good our team would be.

That's what I was going to say. And, it's so true. Dude gets criticized for not having prototypical size and what not, but can flat out play. He woulda been one helluva heir apparent to Marino. I can remember prayin' they took him when he fell to them. Then, cussin' like a drunken sailor when they didn't. Then cussin' again when they settled on C-Pep instead of signing him in FA. Oh well...if if's and buts was candy and nuts, we'd all have one helluva party!

    Thanks for the reminder Canephins...

Reggie Wayne was who I wanted as well. I actually wanted him and Chambers (in the 2nd).

You call what we had in 2001 as a draft ??

Yeah, another bad decision come back to haunt us, even if though he's not here anymore...

Well, to me if anything the 2001 draft reminds me that if you want to win a Championship A) The window is small B) sometimes you have to break some eggs to make that omelot.

As I recall, Wanny claimed that he did not want to bring another Qb in because it would mess with Fiedler's Confidence, that is how not win.

The other thing is...that 01 draft produced Chris Chambers who we traded to SD for the #57 pick...

The #57 became Chad Henne....our future Qb.

Very few Wannstedt draft picks remain in the NFL and the saddest thing about this thread is that the 2001 draft was probably his best draft class.

Just think, we could have had Drew Brees throwing to Anquan Bolden. Remember when Wannstedt said, "What can Trent Green do that Jay Fiedler can't"?

"Pick # 26 is a Brees!" Is what I believe the sign said.

Our Dolphins sure do know how to say "NO" to franchise QBs. :pity:
