No, I don't think so. I believe there is a strong chance that the Broncos could take him. There are a number of teams that could take him and that includes the Jaguars who now own the #10 pick. The Jags released Torry Holt and now they have nobody opposite Mike Sims-Walker (who hasn't exactly been Mr. Reliable for them off the field). They drafted Mike Thomas and Jarett Dillard in the 4th and 5th rounds a year ago, I like both players but Thomas is a slot receiver and Dillard is a little bit of a gamble because he doesn't have deep threat ability.
I could see the Jags taking him as well for all the same reasons. IMO even if Denver keeps Marshall, that wouldn't exclude them from drafting Bryant. They could always trade Marshall later to the highest bidder.
I was thinking the jags also but have not seen a mock draft where the jags select anything but tebow or a defensive player. I don't think he will fall to us but you have to have hope sometimes.I think this guy is going to be a special player for somebody down the road.
In Don Banks' latest mock, we're through 9 picks with BOTH Dez Bryant and Eric Berry still on the board. However, in typical Dolphin fashion, things do not end well. I'm not so sure I could recover from such a violent kick to the groin by the football gods. For the sake of all Dolfans, let's hope things don't unfold this way. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/don_banks/02/25/mock-draft-1/index.html
I would cry if we missed out on each of those players by 1 and two picks. It could only be made worse by passing on Morgan/Thomas for Kindle.
I think there's a strong chance Jax passes on Dez. First, their pass rush is just awful, one of the worst in the league, and with Del rio being a defensive coach I would bet they take a rusher at that spot. Second, their history with first round wideouts is atrocious, almost as bad as their pass rush. They already have Walker who's developing inot a #1. I think they pass. I certainly could be wrong and wouldn't be shocked, but I think Dez gets to 11 at least.
They just took two pass rushers high in Quentin Groves and Derrick Harvey. What would you say if fans of another team started plugging Joe Haden to us at #12 because our secondary sucked?
The difference is our rookie corners showed progress. Same can't be said for groves and Harvey. They also have a potential no. 1 wr. No one would blink if they took an end
I see the Jags and Broncos as the only teams who will seriously consider Bryant. While I think it's more likely than not that one of them takes him, I don't see how anybody can claim there's little or no chance he makes it to #12. I have been saying that there's about a 25% chance he makes it to #12. He made it to #12 in 34% of the mocks I saw on the draft muncher.
well, he did just skip out on the combine because of injury. now he's only got one real shot at showing teams he's worth a top 10 pick. We need to remember that it's been awhile since he's played football. Plus the this injury might be severe (or non-existent, and if NFL execs get word of that, that's even worse) so we don't know how he'll perform.
I agree with all these and would even throw Cleveland in there. Hell, you have zero idea what Weird Al is gonna do in Oakland.
I think it should be noted that while we're not exactly in position for Bryant, we're in position to get a very good player. We'll probably end up with a player who should have gone top 10 but didn't because Clausen and Bradford. (Two guys who shouldn't go that high)
I think there is a very good chance that he will be there. No one in the top 9 picks will take him, IMO. I think the earliest he goes is 10, and I don't really think Jacksonville will take him. They have Mike Sims-Walker and don't need another wide receiver at this point. They need to get better defensively though. Two things will cause him to not go as high as some expect. First, his inactivity this past season. He only played in three games, and all teams have to look at is film from his freshman and sophomore years. Second, his attitude. There is talk that he's another T.O. when it comes to his attitude. He has a history of complaining when he doesn't get the football.
I'd bet Al Davis would gladly trade out of rd 1 this year for a #1 and #4 in 2011. His bizarre personnel decisions have effectively drained even the Raiders resources, Tommy Kelly has a massive contract, ditto Gerald Warren(!) toss in Russel and Bey and McFadden and the dirty little secret is..the Raiders had terrible attendance in 09.
I agree that his chances of going in the top 10 are slight. I could easily see 2 DTs, 2 QBs, 3 OTs, 2 DEs/LB, 1 CB, 1 S, going before him. We may get lucky if the diva thing is played up much like we got lucky when the coke rumor and poor senior year dropped Marino to our pick.
