It's definitely worse than I thought it would be.

The League has no qualms about using these scrubs in the regular season and unless the refs cave that's exactly what's gonna happen. -
Never mind the refs, if the defense keeps playing like this I might boycott the season.

From what I'm seeing the replacement refs are the only chance we have at winning games.
If somehow all the bad calls go for us, we have a chance at the Superbowl.Coral Reefer, MikeHoncho, dolfan32323 and 1 other person like this. -
Make a movie out of it and maybe we got something....

We have no depth at pass rusher and LB, not surprising we got our asses kicked.
And the PI call wasn't that bad, he was tugging on him.
The call vs Vontae was atrociousCoral Reefer likes this. -
waaa waaa waaa. The regular refs suck too, nothing new. These replacement guys might mess up some but atleast they're letting guys play a little bit so I'm cool with it. By the regular season they'll be fine. If you didn't know they were replacements you wouldnt say a thing since normal guys are trash too.
-
Regular refs know how to spot a football correctly, though.

-
Regular refs don't miss about 6 false starts and 3 offsides either.
-
I hate to pile on the replacement refs cause they're trying their best out there, but they just flat out suck. It's inexcusable for a premier sports league to allow this atrocity to occur any longer.

That's 1 more thing than the replacement refs can do. -

Im not saying this because of being screwed. I could care less its preseason. I dont even feel like Im watching football though. They are calling some weird alien game. -
While I agree the officiating is atrocious, I'm not going to boycott because I think I have a couple of stout fantasy teams.

lolRef moment
Obviously blow the whistle as Edwards steps out of bounds. Spot the ball where he was tackled after anyway. Philbin throws challenge flag. Refs realize "Haha oh **** we spotted the ball wrong. AGAIN" -
I'm hoping to hear "False start on the defense". That would be great.
-
*Referee makes PI gesture*
"False holding, on the special teams, wide corner, 5...10?...5! yard penalty remains 6th down." -

The NFL really needs to pull its head out of its *** and settle with the referees now. Every week the replacements are out there erodes their position more and more, and they are going to get absolutely hammered by the media and fans when this kind of stuff occurs when the games count.

We knew where our weaknesses were, we've all talked about them and so far they are proving to be the worst case scenario.
WR, Pass Rush, LB, secondary..... I get the feeling were going to give up a lot of points this year.
Still Preseason though so I'll reserve some semblence of hope. Still, while we all know game planning is not happening yet, it's troubling to see your players getting beat at the basics badly.
As for the PI call on Smith.
I'm not a fan of NFL refs at all. Replacements or the regular ones. The regular officials have been an embarrassment now for years. The NFL needs to pay them more to have officials that are more dedicated to their craft. It shouldn't take having them walk off the job. The NFL already should have been on it watching how ineffective they've been.
That said, the PI call on Smith was a penalty. I don't know what others were watching. Smith clearly used his arm to grab Steve Smith and keep him from burning by him.... which he had been doing with ease by the way. You can even see Steve Smiths body turn from the pull. There were bad calls but that wasn't one of them. -

I was watching the Falcons/Bengals on Thursday and listening to Mike Pereira. Now, he has a vested interest because those are his friends. However, he wasn't trashing the replacements. I agree with his take though. It's the administrative things, maintaining a game flow, correct spots, play clock/clock management, speed of the game, etc. As a fan, I wanted the Smith PI to hold up, but it's a judgment call--always has been. I've seen worse.
For me, it's not marking 10 yards off after a 10 yard penalty. It's blatant obvious calls that force challenges--like punts being called touchbacks at the 4 yd line. I respect the heck outta Peter King, and he says the same as alex44, which is the quality of the game will be severely diluted with these officials. It will be from poor calls, or injuries from poor management of the game.Alex44 likes this.
