Ronnie if he don't step up immediately cut him. No to Ricky because of his bad attitude and mouthing the team no tolerance for a teammate dragging the whole team down when things aren't going right a bad apple just makes it worse.(and his fumbles last season were terrible) terrible terrible.TERRIBLE.

 

Hilliard but only to compete with our new h-back who intrigues me as the guy who picks up 6-8 carries a game. We know the kid can catch which makes him valuable coming out of the backfield on passing downs.

I would have much rather voted no to all three which means bringing in at least two other Rb's but given the choices, I'll take Ronnie.

As much as I like Ricky's style of running and his vision it would be a big risk hoping he does not lose yet another step.

 

If those are our only 2 choices, then I agree.

Edit: What I really miss is Adams Peanut Butter, and strawberry jam on whole wheat toast.

 

I picked Ricky because: 1. He is more durable. 2. He has been more productive over the past two seasons. 3. He has better vision and instincts as a runner. 4. He is more likely to sign for 1 year and for less money than Ronnie would want. The only negative with Ricky I see is he has lost a step and doesn't have the burst he did in his prime. Still, with our improved OL, as a backup to Thomas, I think Ricky would be just fine to get about 1/3 of the carries and give us over 4 ypc when he is in the game.

 

Hard to argue with anything here but the one thing that could push Ireland to choose Ricky is what you said in bold. One year, one decent salary. As opposed to Ronnie probably wanting a ton and a big bonus.

Well, to me bring backs in as well, to me if there is one position that needs competition it is the Running Back corps.

To me, all 3 are more or less the same back.

Re-sign Brown and let him have more carries with a decent Oline and see how it goes. Brown has proven how dynamic he can be in the past. He's not exactly that old so I'd like to see if he's got something left. Ricky is replaceable talent at this point. He doesn't offer anything that we can't get from another back, unless you count his fumbles as a plus

Deangelo Williams....hes already said he has no problem splitting caries...and he has the extra giddyup to be the perfect complimentary back....

 

I think there's a chance that Brown could be really effective in Daboll's offense since I expect the backs to be used as outlet receivers. I think back to when Brown was in Cam's offense. He looked like a top 5 back before the injury. Now the injury thing will always be there, but Brown at that level of production would still be attractive. I think he was that productive b/c of the use as a receiver and b/c of the types of plays he ran. Brown simply isn't good at the quick hitters, but he does have excellent vision, power and balance. You use him on pull plays and he's incredible.

Now I also like Deangelo Williams, but I have a feeling that Brown will come much cheaper. And I do have a great deal of faith in Daniel Thomas. I think Thomas, Brown (or Williams) and Hilliard is a really nice stable. Then again that might be overkill. If Clay shows enough in camp, I wouldn't be shocked to see us go in to the season with Thomas, Hilliard, Clay (in a Hillis type role) with speed back like Sproles. And you'd still have Polite as the pure FB and short yardage specialist. Tat may allow us to use a roster spot for some other position.

 

I don't think Brown is a very good fit because of the amount of zone running is in Daboll's offense. His vision isn't very good, and Daniel Thomas is almost the same guy with some of the power traded for vision.

 

Ricky, since he's the better option in nearly every category. The other thing to add is that he carries a lot more weight in that lockerroom.

 

I like Ronnie if our OLine is truly improved. Ricky is still an above average "plough ahead" runner. I think Ronnie still possesses better skills that make our offense "more explosive". I think he's quicker, more agile, and at this stage, a much better receiver. I think Ricky is better at hitting a hole, much more decisive, but i think that can be easily duplicated by a guy like Lex Hilliard.

My only fear with Ronnie is history has dictated he's a guy that becomes increasingly more effective with more touches. With the potential for less touches with a fresh rookie that could lower his effectiveness. However on the flip side, there is a chance for Ronnie to increase production if he's now the guy running the ball in the 4th quarter where we usually saw Ricky Williams handling those touches. Now Ronnie runs against those tired defenses. Just something to think about.

IF they resign one of those guys, I hope it's Ronnie. I'm still interested in the Reggie Bush or Darren Sproles acquisition.

Sure, Thomas hasn't proven anything yet, and should not be handed anything without earning it. I'm just of the opinion between keeping just one of the R&R combo, I'd keep Ricky for reasons previously given. That was what this thread was about. If we were gonna keep one and just one, which would you choose. You chose Ronnie for reasons you gave, I chose Ricky for reasons I gave.

 

We need a change of pace back. Thomas and Brown are a like in a lot of ways. I would not mind signing someone else with more speed

 

As I recall, the OP does not mention Thomas at all. His entire premise was if we keep only one of R&R, which one would it be, or the 3rd option was neither. That this would be as a backup for Thomas and him already anointed the starter would be just an assumption, if made by anyone else posting in the thread.

 

Last years offense was dysfunctional.All the way from questionable playcalling ,a rotating OL that never seemed to gell ,lack of speed on offense .

As a result Ronnie and Ricky did not look good.I dont think Ronnie is done by any means .As Rafael has said I think he will thrive in Daboll's offense .

If we retain one of those backs I vote for Ronnie .

Ricky is the one thats showing signs of being done IMO and his fumbling was disturbing .

Ronnie has proven some things. That he is a less than durable average to decent running back who will want way too much money for what he is worth. We have all seen what Ronnie can do and it has been underwhelming to say the least for a #2 overall pick. He is indecisive and never really had that second gear. I'm ready to move on.
Keep Ricky if possible and go with some fresh blood in Thomas.

 

Makes sense, to me when I watched the offense the middle of the Oline was being pushed into the backfield or allowing outright penetration far to often.

When Richie I played Center that stopped, then Berger was reinserted because McQuistan had to fill in at RT when Carey and Murtha went down and the patriots simply murdered us.

TBH, I'd take Ronnie B over Ricky W at this point, then again I'd like us to take a look at Cedric Benson as well back to back 1k season in Cinci is no small thing and like Ricky W he is a low mileage running back.

 

Both Ricky and Ronnie have a problem outrunning even linebackers when they get to the second level. As much as I like Ricky, we need a speed back.

 

I voted Ronnie and I'd like to see him back in Miami... That being said, I'm interested in DeAngelo Williams and Cedric too. If Ronnie could just stay healthy, he'd be a no-brainer!
